Third Rebirth: Godsfall Apocalypse-Chapter 21: Limit Break
Chapter 21 - Limit Break
"Do you remember everything?" Zarek asked for the tenth time already.
"I do." Priya nodded seriously.
Normally, she might be annoyed that Zarek had asked so many times, but she knew how important this was. According to Zarek, the foundation they laid now would be of the utmost importance in the future.
[Limit Break] was what was known as a Unique Class Godsfall Circulation Method. By comparison, [Tearing Gut] and [Godsfall Eclipse Resonance] were both just S Class.
Of course, S Class methods of any sort, whether it be circulation methods or skills, were impossibly rare. But Unique Class methods were on a tier to themselves.
That said, Unique Class methods were a crapshoot as well. They could either raise someone up to the status of a God, or they could be as useless as a rock in their hands.
[Limit Break] was easily a method that would be useless in the hands of most people. But to Zarek, it was probably the strongest method on all of Earth, whether now or into the future. And that was because he had [Tearing Gut] and [Godsfall Eclipse Resonance].
The method had one simple function. It could take what you could withstand and push it just a little further, just a few fractions of a percentage point. However, it could do this without any adverse reactions to yourself.
Once this Limit was broken, your body would fully adapt, and the next time [Limit Break] was used, it would take this new Limit into account and break it just a little more.
This sounded like a method that would be useful no matter what the situation, but this wasn't the case.
[Limit Break] didn't break Limits. It was more accurate to say that it allowed Limits to be broken.
This seemed like a distinction without reason, but it was the crux of the matter. The technique was auxiliary. Without a method that could already push your Limits, it was worthless. It would be akin to working out with a sub-optimal plan, versus having perfect sleep, perfect nutrition, and a personal trainer.
The percentage boost [Limit Break] gave you was so limited that if you were to use it normally, it would take so long to display its strength that you would fall far behind before it was worth anything.
But... Zarek had the perfect trifecta.
With [Godsfall Eclipse Resonance], he had the perfect avenue to break his limits beneath the moonlight. Adding [Limit Break] to it would be akin to amplifying the technique to a whole other level. Then, with [Tearing Gut], he could rapidly recover his body's state in the daylight, giving the perfect balance to things.
Recovery in the day, progress in the night.
Zarek looked up to the blood moon hanging in the skies. He could already sense the shift to the Godsfall; the number of Turned would be increasing.
"You've got this." Zarek said, standing up from the broken living room they sat in.
This place was actually his own place, an accommodation off-campus the school had given him through his scholarships. It was technically government housing, if you could call a four-bedroom single-family home such a thing.
For as long as Zarek could remember, he had been on his own. But the government always treated him well because he was a talent.
It wasn't until deep into his First Rebirth that he learned why that was. But was it a surprise that the government would know about this sort of thing long before anyone else?
Zarek moved to a back window and gave Priya a wink. She tried to give him a reassuring look in return, but he could tell that she was nervous.
Steeling his heart, Zarek turned away.
This time, he would be clearing around the house without her, ensuring that no Turned got close. But Priya would naturally be nervous, whether for his safety, or the odds that she might have to face off against a Turned on her own.
Zarek didn't reassure her. He had no intention of allowing a Turned to get close to her, not this early on, but it was best she learn to get settled into that feeling early.
'Let's hunt.'
Zarek hopped down, falling from the second floor and landing softly on the torn-up stretch of grass.
He unsheathed two machetes in a fluid motion.
While he might not have been able to get anything decent out of school grounds... why would his own home be the same?
...
Zarek's blade flashed, a rotting head falling limply to the ground. He had already moved past it before the thud echoed, one fluid motion after another coming from his arms.
This time, he wasn't focused on brute strength, but efficiency. He was trying to conserve as much stamina as he could.
He had missed the feeling of blades in his hands.
Chi.
Another head fell and Zarek looked up to the moon again.
'It's about time. Let's expand the region a little bit.'
The Turned would be especially sensitive to the activation of [Godsfall Eclipse Resonance], in conjunction with their already increased sensitivity to life beneath the blood moon. Once Priya started practicing, there would be a flood moving toward this region.
That left an obvious problem. What was Zarek going to do? Leave Priya to protect him when it was his turn?
Of course not.
A glow began to pool from Zarek's amber eyes, making them pulse almost like boiling brass.
A red aura began to emit from his skin like the solar flares of the sun, arching and dispersing continuously.
Zarek exhaled a slow breath, his grip tightening around his blades.
Obviously, he would be the draw. With his experience with [Godsfall Eclipse Resonance], he could use it in the middle of combat.

His C Class Scouting Skill wasn't strong enough yet to display Circulation Methods... but that didn't mean that Zarek couldn't fill in the blanks himself.
Zarek wasn't worried about trouble. In fact, he would be worried more if trouble didn't come.
Today... he wanted to draw in a Mutant Grade Turned.
