Chapter 457: That Was Fun

Her voice cracked as she pointed accusingly at Nnenna, her eyes already brimming with tears she was forcing herself to hold back.

Carl slowly turned his head toward her, his face blank with confusion.

"Who are you?" he asked simply, staring at her the way someone might look at a complete stranger who had just walked in off the street. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

His tone was so honest, so unbothered, that the entire room went dead silent.

And for Jana...

It felt like her world cracked into pieces.

Jana stumbled back in shock, her eyes wide, almost crashing to the floor. No one reached out to steady her, not even her henchgirls, who were glaring at her like she had betrayed them personally. Their faces were twisted with rage and disgust.

Jana’s vision blurred with tears. She felt a raw, burning ache in her chest. It was true, Carl had never been her boyfriend. They had never exchanged phone numbers or shared sweet words.

But at least, at least he had comforted her once. That day, when everyone laughed at her, he had spoken kindly. Each time in class, he would look in her direction a lot while he lectured. And now...he looked at her like she was a stranger he had never seen before.

A ripple of cold, mocking laughter spread through the crowd. Every gaze that fell on her felt like a dagger sinking into her skin. She hugged her arms around herself, trying to block it all out, but it was no use.

"She lied...about everything!" someone hissed loudly enough for everyone to hear.

Another student clenched his fists. "All this time...she made us hate Nnenna for no reason."

"Disgusting," a girl whispered, her lip curling. "And to think we defended her. She really fooled everyone."

Even a few lecturers were shaking their heads, their expressions hard.

Carl didn’t even know who Jana was.

Jana felt like her world was collapsing around her. All her careful stories, all the sympathy she had built, turned to ashes in an instant. And now, the very people she had used as her shield were glaring at her like she was lower than dirt.

Voices rose all around Jana, sharp as knives.

"Wow, look at her," a boy sneered, folding his arms. "Still acting pitiful. She really thought she could pretend forever."

"I can’t believe I almost reported Nnenna to the disciplinary board because of her," a girl whispered, her voice trembling with regret. "I feel so ashamed."

"Serves her right," another scoffed. "Crying now won’t erase her lies."

Jana bit her lip so hard she tasted blood. She wanted to scream that they didn’t understand, that she had just wanted to matter...but the words died in her throat.

They all hate me now, she thought, her heart thudding painfully. They’ll never believe me again, even if I tell the truth.

Near the front, the Vice Chancellor’s face was ashen. He rubbed his temple, feeling the beginnings of a migraine.

How could I have been so blind? he thought bitterly. I trusted that girl’s every word...I even scolded Nnenna, someone connected to these geniuses, without proof.

His secretary looked equally shaken. She swallowed hard and lowered her gaze. "I...I should haven’t chosen a side so fast," she murmured, voice thick with regret. "How could I forget so fast that if this girl came with Mr. Somto that day, she must be important."

She looked at the VC and became more afraid when she saw his expression "Oh God I might just get fired for not reminding him."

A second year student folded her arms, her eyes cold. "All this time, she strutted around like some tragic heroine. And we were fools to pity her."

"She ruined Nnenna’s reputation, tried to ruin her life...for what? Attention?" a lecturer said under his breath, shaking his head. "Pathetic."

Someone in the back let out a humorless laugh. "She was so desperate to be important she forgot the truth always comes out."

Jana felt the world tilt around her. The floor felt like it might open up and swallow her whole.

Jana couldn’t take the humiliation a second longer. With her face drenched in tears, she turned and ran, nearly tripping over her own feet as she fled past the crowd.

No one chased her. No one called her back.

Seeing that the spectacle was finally over, Nnenna exhaled and stretched her arms above her head as if she had just finished a boring lecture instead of surviving months of rumors. She looked straight at the Vice Chancellor, her expression perfectly blank.

"I assume there will not be any classes today?" she asked coolly, as though nothing had happened.

The Vice Chancellor cleared his throat, utterly mortified. "Y-yes...of course..."

"Good."

Nnenna turned to her little group, her voice calm. "Let’s go."

And just like that, the five of them, Nnenna, Arthur, Carl, Ava, and Emily, walked away together under the stunned, mixed stares of everyone present.

A hush fell over the onlookers.

"That was fun," Ava said cheerfully, popping another piece of popcorn in her mouth.

Several people who overheard her nearly choked.

Fun?

They just ruined Jana’s life in front of the entire school...

And she calls it fun?!

Even the students who had backed Jana up felt a shiver down their spines. If these five could destroy someone’s reputation this easily, what would happen to the rest of them if they dared cross Nnenna?

Nnenna stopped by the school gates and glanced at the others. "I’m going home," she announced simply.

"Your driver won’t be here for a few hours," Arthur said, glancing at her.

"Then I’ll just drive you," Carl offered casually, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. "It’s faster anyway."

Nnenna hesitated. "Are you sure?"

"Of course," Carl said with a grin. "What kind of big brother would I be if I let you walk?"

The group all shamelessly agreed to tag along, even though Carl had only offered to drive Nnenna.
