They Hated Me in My First Life, But Now I Have the Love System-Chapter 456: Hello, Lil’ Sis
Chapter 456: Hello, Lil’ Sis
She completely forgot that Arthur shouldn’t even know Nnenna talk more of behaving that way around her.
In this moment, surrounded by all this tension and suspicion, she looked like the only person in the room truly at peace.
After eating a few more pieces of popcorn, Arthur finally turned his gaze back to Jana as if she were an afterthought. "What were you saying again?" he asked lazily, genuinely looking like he’d forgotten every word she had spoken.
The crowd nearly fainted.
This was supposed to be his terrible revenge for having his feelings rejected? If anything, it was more like he simply couldn’t be bothered to care.
A ripple of whispers spread through the room.
"I don’t believe Jana anymore," a girl muttered to her friend, her voice low but fierce. "If Prince Arthur really liked her, would he act like she’s invisible?"
"Exactly," her friend whispered back. "And look at her, she’s not even his type. He could have any princess or duchess he wanted."
One of the lecturers shook his head, adjusting his glasses. "This is ridiculous. If she truly rejected the prince, he wouldn’t be sitting there eating popcorn like nothing happened."
"Yeah," another lecturer agreed quietly. "You would think he would at least look angry or embarrassed. He just looks...bored."
"I told you," a boy hissed to the girl next to him. "Jana made this up. He doesn’t even remember what she said!"
"I knew something was off the moment she started crying," someone else added, crossing their arms. "It felt forced. Like she was acting."
All around the room, suspicion bloomed like weeds breaking through stone, and more and more people began to realize that Jana’s carefully crafted story was starting to crumble.
Jana, at this point, wanted the ground to crack open and swallow her whole. This level of embarrassment crashed over her like a tidal wave, smashing through even her thick skin. She clenched her hands at her sides, her lips trembling. She couldn’t take this anymore.
Just when she was about to throw in the towel for today and storm out, rapid footsteps were heard.
"Hey, guys!" a bright, familiar voice rang out.
Everyone turned in unison.
"You won’t believe what some silly boy just told me," the newcomer continued, sounding equal parts annoyed and amused. "I had just parked my car when he sprinted up, yelling that my girlfriend was in trouble and that I had to come save her."
It was Carl.
He strolled in casually, dressed in his crisp academy lecturer’s uniform, hair still windswept from driving.
"He didn’t even wait for me to ask him where this so called girlfriend of mine came from," Carl went on, scratching his head, "before he took off again. Can you believe it?"
Jana felt her vision tilt.
Carl’s eyes finally swept across the room. Initially he was talking to Arthur whom he saw first but then he noticed Nnenna lounging in a chair, Ava perched neatly beside Arthur, and Nnenna and an unfamiliar girl calmly munching popcorn like this was a late night movie.
Carl blinked.
Then, completely oblivious to the stunned silence of the crowd, and Jana’s face going sheet white he walked over to Nnenna.
As Carl walked over, he kept right on talking, his deep voice ringing across the silent hall.
"What girl could that boy possibly be talking about? Me? Prince Carl?" He let out a soft, incredulous laugh. "I haven’t dated anyone since I understood what love really means. And let me be clear, I would never waste a girl’s time with this thing people call dating."
His gaze swept the crowd, daring anyone to challenge him.
Then he turned back to Arthur.
"If I like a girl, I’ll be her friend first. Then I’ll court her properly. If she feels the same, I’ll marry her. Why would I confuse her, acting like I’m unsure of my own feelings? I already know what I want, a future worth building."
The crowd stirred uneasily. Several people darted glances at Jana, who looked like she might faint.
Carl stopped beside Nnenna’s seat. Without so much as a pause, he picked up her bag, set it on his laps, and calmly sat down in the empty chair, completely blocking Emily, who froze mid popcorn bite.
Then he turned to Nnenna with a bright, teasing smile, as if he hadn’t just shattered Jana’s entire story in two sentences.
"Hello, lil’ sis," he said in a soft, familiar tone that made the crowd’s jaws drop.
He reached out a hand, ignoring the angry glare she leveled at him.
"Pass the popcorn."
Nnenna smacked his hand away, but Carl didn’t care. He just leaned forward, grabbed a handful anyway, and popped the kernels into his mouth, chewing with deep satisfaction as if none of this chaos had anything to do with him.
Little sis?!
The crowd had seen enough. From the way Arthur, Carl, Ava, Nnenna, and Emily interacted, calm, unbothered, even sharing snacks, there was no longer any doubt about who was telling the truth.
Whispers spread like wildfire
"Since when did they all know each other? Is it an act?" A girl whispered in disbelief.
"Are you blind?" The person beside her reacted. "Can’t you see that Prince Arthur, Prince Carl and even Princess Ava have acknowledged Nnenna since ages ago. This obviously didn’t start today. We’ve all been so stupid!"
"So they’re really all close friends..."
"Jana’s story is falling apart."
"How embarrassing."
Jana felt her whole face burn. It felt like her shame was boiling her from the inside out. But even with so many eyes on her, she refused to give up. She clenched her fists and took a shaky step closer to Carl, her voice rising as her desperation grew.
"Carl..." she called out, trying to sound gentle but only managing to sound hysterical. "How could you be so friendly to this girl? Don’t be deceived by her innocent act. She’s not a good person at all!"
