"I am going to be direct with all of you. This case will not be going to trial, you all need to settle. There is no proper evidence." Detective Shao told them.

Auntie Mo opened her mouth to reject detective Shao's ruling but he raised his hand and stopped her from interfering with his words. He wanted the two families gone from his presence as quickly as possible.

"This doctor's report that you brought is one sided evidence. In order to ascertain the extent of the damage suffered due to the attack, the assailant can also request for an independent opinion from a different doctor."

Auntie Mo folded her lips and frowned.

"The testimony of the witness could be considered biased judging on the ill relationship between her and the assailant as well. You two seem to be at odds with each other."

He had already guessed that there was no love lost between Alix and her stepmother. Everything that Alix said was to be doubted.

Jing Hee smiled, suddenly smug. As expected, nothing would come out of this petty slanderous case. She stood up and took a hold of her handbag. Everything seemed to have been wrapped up well. It was time to go.

"Detective, I knew that you were smart..."

Detective Shao raised his hand and stopped Jing Hee in her steps too.

"We do have another witness that called in and said that a woman was grabbing another in the parking lot. His description matched the two of you quite well, describing your outfits on that day down to a tee as well. This means you are not exactly innocent madam Jing. I would advise you to apologize and offer a cash settlement to end this right here, right now."

That witness had refused to come in and the number was no longer reachable. Not that detective Shao would be willing to let both women in on this secret.

Unwilling to lower her head, Jing Hee gritted her teeth and said. "I will do no...."

Lin Qianfan pushed her forward roughly and he ordered in a very precise voice, "Apologize."

"Honey..." Jing Hee spun around and addressed Lin Qianfan in a distressed voice.

Lin Qianfan held Jing Hee by the elbow and he turned her around to face the Tai's. The grip he had on her was quite strong and painful. It also told Jing Hee that he was running low on patience. If she didn't do as he ordered, she would suffer for it later.

Stiffly, Jing Hee looked at auntie Mo and then Alix. She promised herself that Alix would pay for this too. This humiliation would not be forgotten.

"I am sorry."

The words were said dryly, perfunctorily, not a hint of regret for her actions was on her face.

For a while, none of the Tai's responded. It seemed as if the apology would not be accepted. Then, out of nowhere, auntie Mo nodded.

"Alright, I forgive you. But you should apologize to my pretty baby too for the nasty words you used and you better compensate me generously."

Jing Hee bit her cheek angrily, drawing a little blood. She could apologize to the Tai's but not to Alix. How could she apologize to a wench that was meant to be a stepping stone for her daughter in every way? Alix was just a body of bones on which Billi sharpened her teeth.

"Apologize." Lin Qianfan whispered fiercely to her.

Again, perfunctorily, Jing Hee repeated the same dry apology she had given to auntie Mo. Then, she pulled her arm out of Lin Qianfan's tight grip and walked stiffly out of the police station. To hide her rage, she covered her eyes with black sunglasses.

They let her walk away, satisfied with her humiliation. Nobody believed her half-ass apology anyway. They were just glad that Jing Hee had been humiliated. Tai Change for one was glad that he had been recording this entire encounter with his phone.

That line about Lin Billi eating enough shit would surely be a hit in the family group chat.

One of the lawyers that

had come with the Lin's meanwhile handed a fat envelope to auntie Mo. "Please, accept our apologies."

Auntie Mo accepted the envelope and looked inside. It was stuffed with cash, but she had no idea how much.

Lin Qianfan shamelessly approached chairman Heng again. "Chairman Tai, I would like to suggest that we all get a drink and put this ugliness behind us. My daughter Alix has told me about how kind you have all been to her and I would like to at least treat you to something nice as a thank you."

Tai Heng was just as poisonous as his wife in his way of responding to people and ruthlessly cutting them off. He had learned from the best after all, his father, Tai Sun.

He was at least two inches taller than Lin Qianfan and he used it to his advantage, looking down at the other man with disdain in his eyes.

"Mr. who is your daughter?" he asked Lin Qianfan.

That was not the response Lin Qianfan expected but he was nothing if not adjustable. He smiled and playfully tapped chairman Tai on his shoulder.

"Haha, who else would my daughter be here? It's our Xi Xi of course."

Lin Qianfan thought that he was so smooth, lumping himself in with the Tai's and Alix so easily. "Let's discuss this outside the station, there are many eyes on us right now."

The nosy police officers and the criminals. Everyone had already watched their family drama and there was no need to humiliate themselves anymore right now.

Tai Heng shook his head and laughed. "You must be mistaken. Their is only one Xi Xi here, my god daughter Tai Alix. We don't need to have any drinks or dinner together with the likes of you. Our whole family will be leaving now."

Lin Qianfan clenched his jaw and swallowed the sting of the humiliation. His eyes darted to Alix that was sitting besides auntie Mo and rubbing the woman's back while whispering.

So she was willing to watch him be humiliated like this? Just wait until Friday comes around. Lin Qianfan would show her then, that he was still her father. Nanny Luo was not Alix's only weak point. Even those two little friends of hers could be used to bend her to his will.

As for the Tai's as long as they were treating Alix as one of their own, he would use it to his advantage. He just didn't know how to do it yet. But, he planned to start looking into it. As a matter of fact, Billi had mentioned something about Alix using jewels to please members of the Zhang family.

Did this mean that the Tai's were giving her free jewelry? Instead of bringing it to him she was wasting it on the Zhangs as if they were not wealthy enough already!! What a senseless thing she was. He really needed to remind her about her priorities.

He smiled at chairman Heng and nodded. 'Then, please excuse me for now. I will be leaving my daughter in your care."

He left, but not before subtly reminding them that Alix was his daughter.

The Tai's thanked detective Shao, gathered themselves and also left the police station. Alix and auntie Mo shared a long hug, excited by their scheming.

Grandma Tai joined in as well, while chairman Tai simply shook his head. They all left and only Change stayed behind with Alix.

He finally got a chance to speak to Alix alone. "Sister, do you want to get dinner with me?"
