Chapter 28: The Other Side of Forbidden Zone (2)

Ayen’s attention was caught by the surging fog not far from the building. Unknowingly, splattered blood began to pool on the ground, but no monster corpses could be seen.

"No monsters won’t be able to get inside, unless it’s stronger than us." Khal might have noticed Ayen looking in that direction.

Devion’s battle also disturbed other monsters so much that they began escaping, and some unfortunate ones collided with the barrier they set up.

It was not for long, and Ayen was drawn again where Devion was fighting monsters. At some point, the flickering lights already appeared in another direction.

A little later, Khal put on his gloves and began fastening his boots. Ayen glanced at him and immediately knew he was preparing for battle.

Ayen watched as Khal waved his hand, and an ice bridge suddenly appeared, connecting to the ground outside. Because of the poor visibility, he could not see the end of it.

Khal gave a small smile. "Stay here and wait for us."

Seeing him nod, Khal stepped on the ice bridge he made and slid along with it. The part he passed by disappeared until Ayen could not see him and the ice bridge.

The fog surged further, becoming openly disturbed, and even the sound insulation could not conceal the roars and grunts of the monsters, which were becoming louder and louder.

Ayen stared at the darkness, eyes following where the biggest concentration of the miasma and the obvious disturbance with it were. Unlike Devion’s, where Ayen could still see the traces of the fight, Khal’s did not leave any.

Nothing could be seen, but they knew that the two espers were fighting in the foggy darkness. Ayen remained on the rooftop for a few minutes before he decided to stop and rest inside.

There was no stable internet connection in the building, and Ayen was not into any hobbies. If he were in the branch, Ayen was already working on documents and was busy.

Without any alternative things to do, Ayen went inside the room and decided to take a nap instead. He would need to be in full condition for another guiding session.

It was late afternoon when Khal and Devion returned to the building. The bulk of monster carcasses that had to be sorted piled up at the side of the building. The smell of blood lingered in the air.

Ayen had already woken up by then and was waiting in the living room.

Khal and Devion’s appearance was still handsome and clean. Aside from the monster’s blood splattered on their combat clothes, no traces of it could be seen.

"Did the smell of blood make you uncomfortable?" Khal greeted, and Ayen then asked, wiping his hand. "We already washed off most of our bodies, but there are a lot of monster corpses outside."

Before they went inside the room to fully wash up in the bathroom, the two usually cleaned the visible blood on their skin outside.

Ayen was not comfortable, but not to the point where he would complain about it. Since he had to stay for a few weeks, getting used to this early on was a must.

"It is. But, I’ll get used to it." Ayen was not delicate, even if he looked like one. He could adapt just fine.

Before Khal answered, Devion interrupted them.

"Wait! I’ll go first." Devion waved at Ayen before dashing to the bathroom and shouting, "Stop Liz from eating too much!"

"Oh shoot." Upon hearing that, Khal ran outside again. Soon, an audible hiss followed by Khal’s scolding could be heard outside.

Ayen squinted his eyes and processed what just happened.

Right. He had to get used to this.

The smell of blood lingering in the air was unbearable at first, but the air purifier installed in the building worked wonders, and it gradually eliminated the smell.

"Wow, you cooked for us?" Devion lifted the lid of the pot and looked at the contents inside.

He had just come out of the bathroom, and Khal immediately replaced him inside. There was still a towel wrapped around his neck and water droplets at the tips of his hair.

"It’s a simple dish." Ayen could not see what was amazing to warrant such a reaction. He took the initiative to cook, thinking the two needed to rest after fighting for so long.

It also eased his boredom, not like he had a better thing to do. While it was not as good as Devion’s, Ayen’s cooking was safe enough to eat. He still survived after eating his own cooking for years, which proved this claim.

"Simple or not, you still cooked."

Ayen did not argue because it was true.

Devion took a spoon and tasted it. He smacked his lips and nodded, giving a thumbs-up. "You have my approval."

Unfortunately for him, Ayen was not someone who would inquire about a rating.

Ignoring his nonsense, Ayen spoke, "Eat first, then I’ll guide you." After saying that, he turned around to leave the kitchen.

"Cold. So Cold!" Devion teased, even making his voice tremble.

Ayen’s cooking was gone just like that after the two espers devoured it. He could not help but suspect... Was he undermining his talent all this time?

Of course, that was only a thought, and Ayen did not take it seriously.

"Don’t bring up my cooking."

Ayen first started the conversation with this, and the two Esper’s mouths parted, then closed. He narrowed his eyes and immediately knew what they were about to say.

"Now, let’s start guiding you."

No shits and nonsense, and Ayen quickly went into business. Just like the earlier guiding session, Ayen was beginning to slowly control his wavelength without needing to close his eyes.

As a result, his eyes were opened this time. Devion was the first one, this time. His face became flushed in a matter of seconds, but he bit his lips, holding on for dear life.

Don’t moan. No matter what.

These words were etched across his face, which only Khal could comprehend.

Ayen was watching him, looking at his expression.

Khal was standing behind Ayen, his hands already covering his lips and suppressing his laugh. It was not yet his turn, but he was already losing it.

Devion noticed Khal’s suppressed laughter and glared at him. Khal turned and averted his eyes, not meeting Devion’s eyes. But he was still laughing.

Ayen frowned slightly, curious why Devion was glaring at his back. He wanted to look back, but he was also concentrating on guiding Devion. He was not skilled enough to do something else while guiding.

In the middle of it, Devion shivered, lowered his head, and shrank his shoulders. He was also obviously sweating. Ayen thought something was wrong, but Devion’s wavelength was normal, and so was his guiding.

Thinking about it, Ayen changed his approach and made his guiding energy connected tightly with Devion’s, giving a certain amount of energy each time.

However, Devion curled up and clenched his teeth, suppressing a moan about to escape his mouth. His hands unconsciously gripped Ayen’s hand harder, making Ayen grimace.
