Chapter 159: Realm Core (7)

"That’s going to be hard. Without comparison, we won’t be certain."

Khal made a point. Just like what happened to them, which needed an SS-class monster to be discovered before their class became official. In fact, that was also not accurate.

"We need to be more vigilant. Something about this makes me uneasy."

Devion was not alone in feeling this way.

The silver lining here was that they managed to realize it earlier than when it was already too late. This was not something they could control, and so mulling it over and over again would be detrimental instead.

The three conveniently raised their guard but stopped talking about it. Their focus was on the item that dropped in the dungeon, which the monster called a Realm core.

Devion took it out of the storage and held it before them. Ayen’s gaze quickly glittered at how the dazzling gem almost made him close his eyes.

It was too sparkly for his liking.

"That’s it?" Ayen could not help but ask. The two espers chuckled, somehow expecting such a reaction from him.

In fact, they were the same at first. If not for its obvious mana density, the two would suspect it was just an ordinary gem; granted, it would be a priceless one because of its unique appearance.

Khal offered his hand, and Devion put the core in his hand. The core was small, only larger than a regular pearl. The second he held it, Ayen closed his eyes.

Devion laughed at him, and Khal quickly hid it in his palms. It was far too bright for the light still seeping through Khal’s hand.

"What’s its use?" Ayen, who already opened his eyes, asked with curiosity.

"No idea." Khal shook his head. Even he did not know what its purpose was.

"The monster said it can help us." Devion explained what the monster said to Ayen. Of course, they still had no idea what it could do, as the monster also only sensed it with its instincts.

It could be possible that the monster did not want to tell them. There was no need to think too much about that, as the monster was already dead.

"Is it too different from normal cores?"

Based on appearance, it already was different, but Ayen was not sure. The two were as clueless as he, so they could not tell either.

"Hmm," Khal thought about it and suggested. "We can let someone examine this core and wait for the results."

This was a first Realm Core, and they had to be careful, especially if they wanted to use it to help them with something.

That could only be the next logical move, and so the two agreed.

Ayen stared at Khal’s hand where the core was. He was not fond of its brightness, but Ayen was also curious about it.

"Can I touch it?" he asked, looking at the hand. For some reason, something within him was stirred, and so his curiosity was piqued.

Khal and Devion also did not think too much. They nodded, and Khal opened its palm, and the core was exposed once more.

The room instantly became bright because of it. Ayen narrowed his eyes, his pupils adjusting to the light.

The two chuckled at him, with Devion even poking his cheek. As though mesmerized by the gem, Ayen did not leave his eyes off it, making him ignore Devion’s repeated attempts to annoy him.

Khal softly smiled and let Ayen take it, which Ayen did after staring at it for a few more seconds.

Holding the gem, Ayen noticed that it was no different from the normal gems, and it even had a significant difference from the normal monster cores.

It was not rough to the touch and was even smooth. Aside from being too bright, Aye did not think it was special.

So, why was he completely mesmerized by it?

Ayen did not realize what was happening before the two espers held his hand and suddenly gripped it. He blinked in confusion and looked at the two.

"What the fuck is this shit?" Devion looked alarmed as he cursed, and Khal was the same. Their expressions are solemn.

This woke up Ayen, and he returned his attention to his hand, which was holding the core. He blinked again.

Huh? When the core suddenly drilled inside his skin. Right, the core was now burrowing in his palm, and almost half was already inside.

What happened? Ayen did not even realize that the core was burrowing inside as he felt no pain at all. The two were now scrambling to pull the core.

"It’s not painful," Ayen spoke after a moment. He did not know, but he felt like he had to say it.

Khal and Devion quickly looked at him when he said this. Their faces filled with guilt as though this had happened because of them.

They did not know what would happen once the core was completely inside Ayen.

"We should not have let you touch it." Khal sighed heavily. His gaze filled with regret. Devion bit his lips, his hands firmly holding the core.

Both espers were worried, and Ayen could see why. Ayen should have also been panicking like them, knowing that it was his body that would have problems if the core had issues.

It was not a matter of if but more of when. Especially as they had no clue about its nature. Yet, Ayen did not feel any of it.

After their initial panic, the two realized that Ayen seemed to be calm about all this.

Devion frowned at him, as though he were the one offended.

"Are you not scared at all?" Devion sounded pissed. He seemed to think that Ayen was not taking this seriously.

Ayen could understand it. He also felt strange about himself. Khal furrowed his brows slightly. He did not say anything, but his cold expression indicated he was also upset.

"I don’t think it’ll harm me." Despite their terrifying expressions, Ayen bravely spoke his assumptions. After all, the two were like this because they were worried about him.

Ayen’s lips curled at the thought. This was not left unnoticed.

"Hah. You’re even smiling?"

If Ayen’s smile usually made them feel satisfied, then this time they became more upset because of this.

"Ayen, aren’t you worried?"
