The X Guide-Chapter 115: Finding Khal (5)
Khal sensed danger, but it was not enough for him to feel any kind of crisis. Rather than the one observing him, he was more anxious to find Devion and Ayen.
He planned to visit the association first. Clearly, they all had the same conjectures. If he were inside another body, then the others would be the same.
Khal’s first targets were espers and guides.
As he was hurrying to the association branch building, Devion and Ayen returned to town. Their car entered through the gate. It just so happened that their car was also about to pass Khal.
The sidewalk where Khal walked was at the side of the passenger seat. Both continued with their initial intention, finding Khal through the crowd first.
The car window was rolled down as Ayen clearly observed the surroundings, looking at the faces of the people they passed by. There was not much expression in his eyes.
None of them exuded Khal’s demeanor. Ayen knew that even if Khal were in a different body, no matter if he were an ordinary person, he would still stand out from the crowd.
It only needed one look.
Just like that person... Ayen suddenly stood straight, his brow furrowed, and for a second, he focused his attention on that person.
Perhaps sensing his gaze, the man paused and also looked at the car. Their car passed, and Ayen made eye contact with the man. Their gazes brushed past each other as the car continued.
Only did Ayen snap out of his thoughts, and he patted Devion.
"Stop the car," Ayen muttered.
Devion glanced at him. "Huh? What happened?" While he asked, he did stop the car.
"Khal... I’m sure it’s him."
"Really? Where?" Devion quickly understood. He also believed Ayen’s words.
Khal was indeed different; even if he lowered his existence to the maximum, most attention would still inevitably be drawn to him.
Ayen was about to answer when a figure appeared beside their car, standing at Ayen’s side. Then, the person bent forward, and the familiar smile appeared on a very unfamiliar face.
"Yo." Khal’s expression remained calm despite the gentle smile, but his eyes clearly conveyed his excitement.
"Damn," Devion exclaimed. "What kind of greeting is that?" He glared at Khal.
Khal’s eyes crinkled, and he chuckled.
"Sure. It’s really you." His eyes then shifted to Ayen. "Did he give you a hard time?"
Devion cursed at him. Ayen bit his lips and answered. "No."
His heart was finally settling down. The moment that Khal appeared, both he and Devion felt their shoulders loosening.
"That’s good to hear." Khal also felt relieved inside.
He did not need to run around to find them. There was no need for so many words, especially when they were still out in the streets.
"Is the door in the backseat open?"
"Yes, it’s open," Devion replied.
Without wasting words, Khal entered the car. Once he was seated, Devion started driving slowly. Since they found Khal, their plan to find him in the populace was dropped.
Now, they did not have any destination in mind.
While they were happy after being completed again, they quickly calmed down. After all, it was not long since they were separated and did not need an excessive emotional reunion.
Devion started the conversation and explained what happened to Khal. Ayen also recounted some of his experience from when he woke up until he found Devion.
"But where were you? Your current body is an esper." Devion finally complained about this point. Was Khal sleeping somewhere and only waking up now?
Devion hit the mark. Well, sort of.
Ayen was also curious about this, and he turned to look at Khal, waiting for his answer.
Khal was also straightforward and did not keep the suspense. He told the two that he had only just woken up, and the body was actually dead and lying in the morgue.
"What? You’re dead?" Devion parked at the side. Fortunately, the number of cars beside them on the street was practically zero. There was no need for any traffic concerns.
"Yes. This body was dead."
Ayen and Devion were quite surprised. The two did not search at the morgue at all. It made sense. How would they know that one of them would enter a dead body?
Devion had a guilty expression. Even if his emotions were directly influenced by the curse. He still felt guilt when he accused Khal in his mind.
Khal did not deserve all that. No matter how small the accusations.
Khal and Ayen sensed that Devion’s mood dropped. Khal glanced at Ayen, asking with his gaze. Ayen mouthed something, and Khal’s heart immediately sank.
He took a deep breath and spoke.
"Let’s find a place to talk."
This was not the appropriate place to talk. Khal felt uneasy when they were out in the open, especially when the feeling of being observed persisted even though it lessened.
Devion and Ayen also understood him, and Devion started to drive again. Soon, they stopped in front of a hotel. The institute and association were not applicable given their situation.
At least a hotel room could give them enough privacy. They were espers and a guide, and they easily acquired a room.
Devion and Ayen walked side by side, while Khal was following behind them. The moment that they entered the room, Khal looked up and scrutinized the room.
The two noticed his actions.
"What are you doing?" Devion could not help but ask. He also looked around, but did not find anything amiss.
Ayen did the same. But he soon focused on Khal. It was not like he could sense anything when Devion could not.
"Someone or something is observing us," Khal directly answered. "But it’s gone now." He suspected that being inside any property shielded them from any observation.
Khal only sensed the gaze when he left the institute building. He explained while he sat comfortably, motioning for the two to sit as well.
Devion frowned. "I didn’t sense anything."
At this, he admitted that Khal was far better than him. Khal was always more sensitive to gazes or dangers. Probably because Devion relied more on overwhelming might most of the time.
He did not hone this aspect of himself.
