The Wrong Hero Has Been Summoned-Chapter 18: Section D
Chapter 18: Section D
"So this is a city? Holy shit." Luther said, looking at the city below that seemed to have no end in sight.
"Yeah...it is really big huh." Selene said, her tone sounding like someone who is not happy to be back.
Luna looked at her and then at Luther, "don't be fooled by its appearance. The city is split into 4 sections, which means some areas are worse than others."
"I see. Well, I guess its not that surprising. Which section are you guys from?"
She pointed at the section closest to them, "Section D. That's where most of the poor people gather... that's our home."
He noticed the sad look on her face, "I see...well, let's going then." He offered her a hand and she took it after seeing the genuine look in his eyes.
"Yeah..."
While they went ahead, Luna and Vess walked slower behind. "Hey, what is going on with him? He has been acting all nice since yesterday." Luna whispered, while looking at the pair ahead.
"Maybe he fell in love?" She replied, not really caring all that much.
"In love huh..." She zooned off, staring at him.
Vess noticed and decided to tease, "ohh? Are you jealous?"
She immediately shut down any misunderstandings, "Please don't do that again, I will never fall in love with a piece of shit like him."
As they walked toward the city, the tall buildings got bigger and closer. Luther looked around, amazed by everything he saw.
"So, what's it like living in Section D?" he asked.
She sighed. "It's hard. Not enough food. Not enough money. But we look out for each other."
They reached the city gates where guards checked everyone coming in. The guards wore shiny armor and looked at his group with cold eyes.
"Papers," one guard said, holding out his hand.
Selene pulled out some worn documents. "These are mine and Dominic's. These three are with us."
The guard looked at Luther's sword with narrow eyes. "Weapons need to be registered."
"It's just an old sword," she said with a shrug.
Luna stepped forward. "We're healers bringing back injured hunters. Please, we need to get him to a doctor."
The guard looked at Dominic, who was still very weak. After a moment, he nodded and waved them through.
Inside the city, the streets were busy with people. Some areas looked nice with clean buildings, but as they walked toward Section D, things changed. The buildings became old and broken. The streets were dirty.
"Not what you expected?" Vess asked, seeing Luther's face.
"I've seen worse," he said, but his eyes showed he was surprised.

Selene led them to a small building with a sign that read "Healer." Inside, an old woman with kind eyes took one look at Dominic and pointed to a bed.
"Put him there. What happened?"
"Monster attack," Luna explained. "We did what we could, but he needs real help."
The old healer looked at Luna carefully. "You have some skill in healing?"
She nodded. "Some. But his injuries are deep."
"Then let's work together," the healer said. She turned to the rest of them. "You three, wait outside. This will take time."
As he stepped outside, he noticed people staring at him.
"We should find somewhere to stay," Vess said quietly. "And maybe hide that sword before it causes trouble."
"This place has a lot of rules," he muttered.
A small boy ran up to them. "Are you new here? You look strong! Are you hunters?"
He smiled. "Something like that, kid."
"My mom has rooms to rent. Very cheap!" The boy pointed down the street. "Follow me!"
He looked at Vess, who shrugged. "Why not? We need a place anyway."
"I will be going to meet the elder, thank you again, for your help." Selene bowed, even though her body was still in pain.
"Sure, it was no big deal at all."
She smiled at him and walked in the other direction while Vess and Luther followed the kid. He took one last look back before she disappeared behind a building.
"What's going on with you? Why are you all of a sudden acting nice?" She asked, looking at him, really curious to hear his answer.
He looked at her, his usual attitude back, "None of your business."
"She smiled, "that's more it."
They followed the small boy through the dirty streets. The buildings leaned against each other, old and tired-looking.
"My name is Tam," the boy said, running ahead and then waiting for them to catch up. "My mom makes the best soup in all of Section D!"
"I could eat," he said, touching his side where the monster had hit him. It still hurt, but not as bad as before.
They turned down a narrow street and stopped in front of a small two-story building. A sign hanging on the door read "Rooms & Meals."
Tam pushed open the door. "Mom! I found new people who need rooms!"
A short woman with dark hair tied back looked up from behind a counter. She wiped her hands on her apron and smiled at them.
"Welcome," she said. "I'm Joy. You look like you've had a rough day."
"You have no idea," he muttered, turning his head to take in everything.
"We need two rooms," Vess said, pulling out a small pouch. "How much?"
While they talked about money, Luther sat at a small table. His body felt strange - too much energy was in him, just waiting to be released.
"You okay?" Vess sat beside him, her eyes worried.
"Just tied, who knew creating a core would leave me so drained."
"I am still surprised you actually create a core on your own, that's a massive feat."
"Yeah, its not easy I will tell you that."
Joy brought out a large pot of soup. It was thick and brown, with chunks of vegetables and what looked like small pieces of meat. She placed bowls in front of them, along with some rough bread.
Vess took a careful bite. "Not bad," she said. "Better than camp food."
She looked around the room. Other residents ate quietly, stealing glances at them. "We stick out," she whispered to him.
"Yeah, I noticed," he replied, slurping his soup. "Different from the fancy areas we passed through."
Tam sat nearby. His eyes kept darting to Luther's sword, which he carefully wrapped and placed beside his chair.
"Which section has the academy?"
"Section A, that's where all the nobles and rich people live, its a million times better than here, at least that's what I heard."
"You have never been there?"
"This is the 1st time I left my home, so no. It's not a place you can just get into that easily anyways. Since we are not nobles, we will have to prove ourselves in other ways."
"Kind of sad how people here are suffering so much."
"Section D is the poorest part of the city," she explained. "People here struggle to survive. Most work hard just to eat."
"Sounds familiar," he muttered. "Reminds me of some places back on Earth."
Joy came back, refilling their soup bowls. "You're not from around here, are you?" she asked, her voice kind but curious.
"Just travelers," Vess said quickly. "Passing through."
"Well be careful, this place can be dangerous." She said while leaving.
"Noted."
"We should leave by tomorrow, we can't waste time staying here."
Before he could reply, their conversation was interrupted by a commotion outside. Shouts could be heard from the street, and several people stood up to look out the window.
"Probably another fight," Joy said, sighing. "Section D is never quiet for long."
"Hmm...." Luther looked at direction of the noise, his thoughts unclear.
