The World's most Overpowered Side-Character-Chapter 465: A Mirage.
"Sovereign?"
Xie sat before Sol perplexed. "Calm yourself."
"I am calm," Sol shook his head, brushing his golden hair behind himself and taking a deep breath of the mana that seemed to fizz into existence because of his presence, a phenomena that the Mad Raven did not let slip his notice.
"I assure you, this time you are not," Xie shook his head with an even more perturbed expression than before. "You are wroth, M’Lord," He retreated several paces away and glanced to the side at Ikaris’s frantic approach. "Behold, even M’lady is in a panic." He gestured to her.
"I told her to deal with the Vatui-"
"Sovereign," You have come into contact with something I have never seen in all my time, this entity whatever it is has greatly affected you... I assure you, nobody will believe that you are okay until they have been properly convinced, and right now the best way to do so is through reflection." Xie sternly interrupted Sol’s stride towards Ikaris, holding his hand to his chest and shaking his head. "Please, reflect upon your current self, if you are indeed unchanged then you must act as such!"
"You..." Sol slocly reached for Xie’s hand and took it by the wrist, removing it from his chest and taking another deep breath. "You have never spoken to me like this before," He admitted and then turned his back. "Keep her at a distance I feel like I’m under attack from the inside, let me have some time to sort through this."
"Very well," Xie turned and vanished, appearing at Ikaris’s side within the blink of an eye and catching her by her arm. "M’lady," He released her immediately, lowering his head in apology after touching her without her consent and then gesturing to Sol. "Sovereign is going through an important transition that requires he take precautionary measures and remain alone for the time being, please heed my humble request and wait until he is finished."
"What did he do to himself?" Ikaris held on to the spot on her hand that he had grabbed her by, even though he meant no harm the speed she had been moving at caused her skin to burn when he caught and stopped her so suddenly. "Tell me." Ikaris demanded, healing her superficial wound and baring her fangs at him while her hair and eyes flickered in resonance with her emotions.
"I am unsure, I know as much as you do, Sovereign came into contact with an unknown power, a conscious entity that may have existed before time itself much like the Dark Emissary, I do know that he confronted the Emissary inside of his mind again, but it seems he managed to expel her using the aid of this power this time." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"He never mentioned it was sentient..."
"Ah," Xie cupped his chin in thought. "He did not state such a fact to me either, but the fact that it along with Giza are of the same source of sorts must mean that it has some level of awareness the same as she does."
"Giza doesn’t just have some level of sentience, outside of the emotions she lacks she might be the most intelligent being in existence, what she does not know is what she has no need for or interest in." Ikaris narrowed her eyes at him. "If the thing inside of him is an entity like her then what hope does he have of suppressing let alone controlling it?"
"Have faith in him." Xie answered her sternly and Ikaris felt herself stumble forward at his words.
"There is none with more faith in Sol than me."
"Then abide by that faith and trust him to overcome the impossible as he always has." The man smiled, seeing her visibly relax and her feet go flat.
"Overcoming the impossible is not the issue here, Xie," Ikaris held her arm at the whisk of a cold breeze zipping pass them in the thin atmosphere. "He is new."
"I beg your pardon?" Xie’s brows furrowed at the strange statement.
"Sol has undergone so many stages of growth and power, evolving through Awakened, an Evolver, a Demigod, a Divine, a Primordial, a Primordial God, he has surpassed common sense as a being that transcends godhood walking with both darkness and light entangled within him, making the grey line his domain and choosing no side but his own, and yet, he never changed."
"Then what need is there to worry?" Xie asked releasing a sigh of relief.
"This power of origin is something that does not play by his rules, even with his body obliterated and his soul left bare, encased in his body anew he never changed at core, but now, all of a sudden, that small piece of him that has remained the same throughout everything has been disturbed by a power foreign and unpredictable." She looked at Xie who now understood what she was failing to make sense of.
"I see," He nodded and then looked at Sol in the distance, seated with his eyes closed while five golden rings pulsated behind him and his clothes fanned about in rags and threads. "However, even as he has now shed all that he once was, I think he remains the same at heart, his intent, his purpose, his sense of self is the same as the day I met him."
"For however long it lasts, yes." Ikaris closed her eyes, seeking Sol with her mind and their link but coming across the reason she had been rushing towards him in the first place. "There is something accompanying him now, a great pillar of golden light reaching the heights of the heavens and the depths of the abyss, infinite and endless, chained by fate itself, the very power that he denies and defies for trying to claim his life and mine and that of our daughter." She shuddered.
"Something incomprehensible beyond the value of sight." Xie murmured. "I am unqualified to behold you, Milady." He took another step away from her and took a knee. "Surely the one beheld to the Sovereign would be of similar stature, I had eyes but failed to see your magnificence."
"What are you talking ab-" "Sol Vestic STOP!!"
Amidst Ikaris’s confused query, Lumi appeared beyond the floating wreckage they all occupied roaring out Sol’s name and at her left and right, hosts of Emissaries of light, and behind her, several figures she never expected she would see again, the Grand Elders and Regents of Fate had emerged from their place of hiding, armed to the teeth and baring their weapons in a forward assault.
"Ikaris!!" Dina snapped into being right next to the woman as soon as she sensed the emissaries, ready to fight them.
"Tell everyone to stand down, to attack an emissary is to drive a blade through your own heart and set it ablaze!" Ikaris barked at Dina as soon as she saw the battle-ready mage in motion to cast spell.
"But they’re after Sol!" Dina’s hair erupted like fire but she was suppressed when Xie took off, overshadowing the vast majority of the Emissaries present in an instant and standing at Sol’s back staring up at Lumi defiatly.
"Lumiere, I will not allow you to pass." He declared, causing the hosts converging to slow down to a halt and hesitate at his intervention. "Sovereign must remain undisturbed."
"No, listen, the power he is tampering with cannot be controlled, it is a Trojan parasite, it is a Mirage!"
"What-"
At the sound of the skies roaring and the atmosphere trembling, the emissaries of light all went silent in horror.
Xie turned slowly after hearing Sol stand, his eyes found the farthest reaches of the cosmos where he could now see the chains of fate reaching beyond the Grand, Beyond Source and further than he had ever seen or beheld and then he too watched terrified as one of those chains took physical form and soundlessly snapped, leaving a ripple tearing across the Grand collective in the blink of an eye before the rest vanished from his sights again.
"...Sovereign?"
