The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human?!-Chapter 1287: Back from the Hospital
"Speak quickly, I’m busy."
A man wearing a white coat with a gloomy expression said.
"Too busy to even have time for a smoke?"
A humanoid male creature wearing scrub clothes said.
He used his webbed hand to pull a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and tossed one to the man.
The cigarette box is inscribed with a Pegasus which had four wings, biting a bloody arm.
This is one of the high-end cigarette brands in Metropolis, called "Bloodthirsty Pegasus," but most people just call it "Horse Eating Hand."
"I saw you had another pack in your pocket."
The white coat said as he caught the cigarette.
"Damn, your eyes are sharp."
The scrub clothes pulled out a new pack and tossed it to him.
The two men stood at the edge of the terrace, looking at the distance while they smoked, their gazes hollow.
Quickly, half of the cigarette was gone.
"So, what exactly is going on?"
The white coat said as he extinguished the cigarette.
This was his habit, smoking only half a cigarette.
"How’s your project going recently?"
The scrub clothes asked.
"Not bad. Why are you asking? Thinking of coming back?"
The white coat retorted.
The other person was originally the backbone of the project but withdrew semi-willingly due to certain reasons.
With great prospects for the project, coming back would be reasonable.
"I used to think about it, but not anymore. Clinical work is more interesting. You researchers have such dark minds."
The scrub clothes shook his head disapprovingly.
"You clinicians don’t have clean hands either. If you’re not planning on coming back, don’t ask. It’s a secret project, knowing too much won’t be good for either of us."
The white coat shot back.
"If I don’t ask, someone else will. Is that Bai Tianshi still on your project?"
The scrub clothes asked.
"What do you want?"
The white coat didn’t respond.
"His family has been looking for him lately, and someone’s already asked me."
The scrub clothes explained.
"Just tell them you don’t know. Aren’t you familiar with the procedure?"
The white coat sneered.
Once you’re in the hospital, you belong to the hospital; alive as staff, dead as material.
Unless you become a big doctor or part of the management, then you might have some rights.
"I said so. But I still feel something’s off. The Bai family has some influence, I’m worried they might stir up trouble."
The scrub clothes said.
"A bunch of quack herbalists making health soups, what trouble can they stir up?"
The white coat mocked.
"You don’t get it; you’ve been away from clinical work for too long and lost that sense of danger. Including this project of yours, I always feel something will go wrong."
The scrub clothes shook his head.
"There’s nothing to be done. This project is the hospital’s key project; I’m just one of the people in charge, and not even one of the main ones. If I dared to propose to terminate the project or apply to leave, I’d end up marginalized and disappear."
"Sitting in my position, wanting to retreat with the flow is already impossible."
The white coat said flatly.
"Well, you were the one who insisted on switching to research back then. If you had focused on clinical work like me, you wouldn’t be in this situation."
The scrub clothes sighed.
Although clinicians can’t avoid research, they ultimately have more choices.
"Let’s not talk about the past. Even if I had focused on clinical work, could I have escaped? Bai Tianshi focused on clinical work, became a deputy director at such a young age, yet he offended the wrong people and ended up exiled to this project waiting to die."
"I don’t have the skill to manage both; if I want to rise, research is faster."
The white coat sneered.
"Sigh. It’s best not to involve yourself in Bai Tianshi’s situation, doing less dirty work is better."
The scrub clothes advised.
"I wouldn’t get the chance for dirty work even if I wanted it. Bai Shanming went directly to Nicks this morning; they’re likely about to act in the next couple of days."
The white coat said.
Bai Shanming is the head of orthopedics and a strong candidate for the next vice-president. Bai Tianshi offended him and was sent to this project.
And Nicks is the chief physician of hematology and one of the main leaders of this project.
"It’s a real match made in hell."
The scrub clothes said with a look of disgust.
"Enough about them. Give me another one."
The white coat reached out.
"Didn’t I just give you a pack? Your salary’s higher but you’re stingier than me; no wonder you’re richer."
The scrub clothes grumbled but still handed him one.
The white coat was about to light up, but suddenly his ears twitched.
He turned his head towards the direction of the elevator, which was going up and had reached the 3rd floor.
"Maybe you should hide?"
He frowned, suggesting to the scrub clothes.
"What are you afraid of? We’re not talking about anything illegal."
The scrub clothes said.
At their level, though many things are beyond their control, a bit of complaining is allowed.
"You’re not part of the project anymore; it’s better to avoid suspicion."
The white coat shook his head.
"You’re just too cautious."
The scrub clothes pouted, but swiftly hid behind a column.
While lighting his cigarette, the white coat pondered who could be in the elevator.
Only those at the level of chief physician in the secret project are allowed to go out for a breather.
Including him, there are six chief physicians involved in this secret project; who could it be?
The white coat leaned against the railing facing the elevator, pondering while blowing out smoke rings.
"Ding!"
The elevator finally arrived on the 6th floor, and the door slowly opened.
