The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human?!-Chapter 1199 - 746: Extraordinary Power and Extraordinary Skill
"I lent out a high-interest loan and canโt get it back."
Niu Ma said gloomily. ๐ณ๐๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐๐ป๐ผ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฅ.๐๐๐ฆ
"Huh? Thereโs actually someone bold enough to owe us money and not pay it back?"
Liu Zheng was surprised.
"Wait, you actually have money to lend at high interest?"
He suddenly realized.
"Nonsense, do you think Iโve been the head of the delivery department for so many years for nothing?"
Niu Ma said proudly.
"Then why do you keep complaining to me about being broke, trying to pinch every penny from me?"
Liu Zheng said speechlessly.
"What do you know? How can you save big money if you donโt pinch pennies? Increasing revenue while cutting costs, I have to do both!"
Niu Ma said, raising its two hooves.
"Do you even have hands to grab? Why isnโt the other party paying back? Donโt they know youโre the head of the Bloody Restaurantโs delivery department?"
He teased with Niu Maโs own words.
"What good does it do for them to knowโheโs dead, for crying out loud! I canโt exactly chase him to the cemetery to demand my money back."
Niu Ma rolled its eyes.
"Why canโt you chase him? Are you afraid Red Pig will give you trouble?"
"Afraid of it? I could beat it when it was alive, let alone after it died. I didnโt hit back before out of respect for the deceased, alright."
"That guy was so poor he couldnโt even afford a burial plot. Whether thereโs a soul or not, itโs probably just floating around some corner of the cemetery. Even if I find him, what good would it do? Iโd just have to suck it up and accept my loss."
Niu Ma shook its head.
"So how much did you lose?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"A million."
Niu Ma said through gritted teeth.
"Damn, you even snatch my employee meals and then manage to lend out a high-interest loan worth a million."
He again had newfound insight into Niu Maโs stinginess.
But speaking of that, with him being this stingy and still swaggering around the Black Market, it seems that whether in reality or the Metropolis, male creatures always know when to save and when to spend.
"The principal was two hundred thousand, plus interest it adds up to a million."
Niu Ma corrected.
"Fourfold interest, tsk, truly lives up to being a high-interest loan. Didnโt you consider the risk before lending it out?"
"Whoโd take a high-interest loan without risk? But speaking of risk, I did consider it. That guyโs entrepreneurial plan actually sounded quite promising. I was even planning on buying some shares once he succeeded."
Niu Ma said with regret.
"What was the business?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"He planned to develop some software called โUniversal Reviewโ or something like that."
"The idea was to list all the merchants in the Metropolis, allowing users to review them, and those merchants would have to pay us to remove bad reviews or to rank higher in search results, similar to paying protection fees."
Niu Ma explained.
"Well, well, truly a genius youโve found yourself, boss."
He smacked his lips in admiration.
"Right? Thatโs what I thought too. I even checked his progress occasionally. Though I couldnโt understand the code, the length gave a sense of credibility."
"Who knew when I casually dropped by, he had already been done in by someone."
Niu Ma said.
"How do you know he was killed and didnโt just skip town?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"The landlord told me, and also mentioned that now itโs become a haunted house, so he doesnโt plan on renting it out for the time being."
Niu Ma replied.
"Why? Because haunted houses canโt fetch high rent?"
He asked curiously.
"No, because the landlord is a ghost breeder and can put it to good use."
Niu Ma responded.
"Uh, okay. Since you know he was murdered, shouldnโt you go after the killer for the money?"
Liu Zheng suggested.
"What? Am I supposed to, a high-interest lender, become some avenger for a borrower? Not to mention if I could find the killer, who says they have money to pay back?"
"If the killerโs also a beggar, then Iโd just end up being a saintly fool doing good deeds."
Niu Ma gave him a sidelong glance.
"Boss, do you think someone this poor and secluded would have enemies?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Hmm... Who knows if itโs a grudge from the past?"
Niu Ma pondered, though it spoke dismissively.
"If they didnโt dare to break in and kill him in the past, why now? Didnโt you find anything missing at the scene when you visited?"
Liu Zheng questioned.
"Whatโs there to take? He just had a broken computer, which the landlord took as collateral for the rent."
Niu Ma said irritably.
Most of the time, Niu Ma preferred to stay out of trouble, especially after Liu Zheng helped it prepare for the birth of little Niu Mas. Getting into a fight over a few thousand bucks wasnโt worth it.
"Did you take apart the computer and check it?"
He asked again.
"Huh? No. Why would I do that?"
Niu Ma looked bewildered.
"Because software is stored on the hard drive, boss."
Liu Zheng sighed.
"So youโre saying someone killed Zhang Tao for his software?"
Niu Ma quickly caught on.
It was just unfamiliar with these tech products, but it was sharp-minded.
"Exactly. And the case remains unsolved, right?"
Liu Zheng inquired.
"Nope. Zhang Tao was just a third-class citizen, didnโt have a wife or kids, nobody cares how he died."
Niu Ma shook its head.
City Hall and real-world administrative bodies work with similar logic, always considering administrative costs.
After all, the Metropolis is more vibrant than Gotham City, and if they managed every matter, the City Hall employees might as well know the multi-shadow clone technique.
Considering administrative costs inevitably leads to another approach, which is distributing attention based on the extent of complaints.
The same issue, under no other considerations, is undoubtedly addressed faster for those who raise a bigger fuss.
Liu Zheng had witnessed such a situation in real life: an older lady stripping off her top and rolling on the ground, surrounded by government center staff helplessly, eventually pooling money to pay the fine for her.
