The Witcher – Uchiha Madara!-Chapter 319 – The Scoia’tael Once Again.
[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]
Third Person POV
Novigrad.
...
...
Long strides approached the gate where the main garrison of the soldiers of the city of Novigrad was stationed. Commander Tellico Lunngrevink Letorte waited calmly while his men were still arriving with wagons full of corpses.
"We were ambushed, my lord," the man said dejectedly, kneeling before the commander, who did not fail to frown.
"And you will tell me what happened. I thought we would deal with only a few of those bastards in the forest," Tellico said.
"My lord, those elves known as Scoia'tael set us up. While we were pursuing them through the tracks, they ambushed us. There were far more than we had anticipated, and now most of our squad has been killed, and we couldn't advance very far into the forest..." he spoke with sorrow, while the commander looked frustrated.
"I understand," he said simply, before one of the dead soldiers in the wagons stirred.
"What will we do, my lord?" asked a soldier beside him, frowning as he saw only a few of that group that had been sent to put an end to those forest plagues return alive.
"Take care of the dead. The men who survived, rest. Meanwhile, continue the patrols. I will think about what to do," the commander murmured. Everyone nodded, and he went back inside the building.
The situation was quite complicated. A large number of wagons were being looted, and with that, a large number of humans were also being murdered by elves known as Scoia'tael, who had begun to act heavily in the north, looting and killing humans.
Due to the large number of reports, the commander was forced to send even troops from within the city, as he knew the king would not fail to demand this, being much faster than sending regular troops from the lords of the region.
He would have to write a letter to the duke of the region now. He himself would have to take care of it. After all, he had lost many soldiers that day, and the city would have fewer men from then on. Some of them were even important comrades of Dudu, killed by non-humans, which was complicated when he himself was a doppler in disguise.
In any case, he was not going to wait for Madara to appear before making any decision. He could not simply act on his own, not having the forces as they were rumored to be out there.
Dudu knew that Madara would appear as soon as he learned of the bodies, which would not take long. So he waited throughout the day, carried out his duties as commander, wrote reports, and received some information from his men.
It was only at night that Madara finally appeared, making Dudu take a breath of relief. "You are finally here," he murmured.
"Scoia'tael, then?" Madara asked, but it was not exactly a question. He had not been in the city and did not know about the operation in the forest. He had been away for two days, just trying to take care of the city while he was absent.
"Yes, as you can see," Dudu admitted, while Madara nodded.
"All right. I will take care of them. Just take a few scouts to check if they are all dead and then take a group to remove them from the forest," Madara said.
This certainly would not go over well with public opinion, with elves robbing and killing humans, while even the guard had failed, which could once again become a reason for hatred among the common people.
Madara had already eliminated a group of them while traveling after leaving Kaer Morhen before going to Novigrad and Skellige. He, Ciri, and Geralt found a destroyed wagon in the middle of the road, full of dead men, with a young noblewoman captured by the group. Madara pulled her out of the cages where the Scoia'tael had camped, killed all of them using mokuton, and then handed her over to the knights who had arrived.
But it seemed that the Scoia'tael were growing stronger once again in this region. Severo had not paid much attention to the forests, and that was where their growth came from.
Three months had already passed since he arrived in Novigrad. The city was receiving all of his attention as he worked to develop the Shinigami technique.
He had already found who he was looking for, which was not difficult; in just one day of searching, he found him.
Olgierd von Everec...
Madara still wanted to take him when he was ready and was just waiting for his ability to be complete in order to act.
After that, he left the guards' garrison and moved on to the busiest entrance of the city, where there was a certain brothel. Madara entered through one of the windows and found Zoltan counting gold coins on top of his desk, while wearing a suit and smoking a very refined pipe. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
He was certainly living a life of luxury.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself," Madara's voice made him look up.
Upon finding Madara, Zoltan was not surprised. He was already used to these appearances and removed the pipe, forming a smile.
"Ah, you're here. Well, do you need anything?" he asked in a calm tone. Very different from the Zoltan of some time ago.
Madara raised an eyebrow. It had been almost two months since he bought that brothel, and Zoltan had certainly done well managing it, receiving all the possible profit, while also keeping Madara informed about what clients heard and discussed with the prostitutes themselves. The place was also a strategic point.
Madara only took a part of the money he had invested to cover his expenses, while the rest stayed with Zoltan, who was profiting greatly. Because of that, he seemed to be living a very luxurious life.
The other dwarves immediately wanted to know how he had acquired a brothel overnight, since that was no easy feat. He simply said that a friend had invested the money. No one trusted that very much, but Madara had a natural persuasion as a leader, and no one bothered Zoltan.
By that point, the leader of the dwarves already knew what Madara was capable of, and those stories he had mocked when Zoltan returned to Novigrad after his adventure in Skellige... made him realize that all of it was true.
After that, the monster himself had visited him a few times and made certain things very clear that he should follow; otherwise... well, the threat was very real.
In any case, Madara discussed things a bit with the others, but he did not ask about the Scoia'tael at first. Some of the prostitutes who worked there commented that they had heard certain rumors.
Madara himself called them over as they came in, asked his questions, and they replied that they had heard about shipments being robbed and about strange movements in the forest.
He just wanted to hear a bit more before starting to venture into the area. He also wanted to know about travelers, which places he should look for besides the nearby forests, and they served him very well with information, since many travelers came to the city to relax and talked about the dangers they were facing, or how 'elves' fled from them in fear to try to bargain.
After listening to the women, Zoltan ordered them to leave. "Well, it seems these elves have to be stopped somehow." Zoltan simply nodded.
"I will deal with it. In any case, try to find out more about them over the next few weeks. You will hear that, soon, the next ones will not last long, nor those that seem to be heard about in other regions," Madara said.
The dwarf felt a chill. He knew that the targets would now be screwed if that guy acted against them. 'Poor elves, they wouldn't stand a chance.' Zoltan just murmured something as Madara left the business room.
Madara went to the forest while creating some clones to check the entire perimeter. More than twenty of them advanced in all directions, while the original remained waiting in the center of the forest.
It did not take long for him to quickly receive the signal from one of his clones, who had already found the camp in less than three minutes. He waited for a few more to search for anything else in the forest, and they found more elves hidden, watching and looking for new shipments in the region.
"Finally decided to act."
Madara moved first toward the camp.
The elves did not keep women and children there. After all, that camp was only for warriors to carry out robberies. But he would still have to find out where they took everything and where their greatest concentration was, which would not be difficult to discover.
So it was very simple. When he began to assassinate the first sentinels, all of them had their necks pierced. The other elves did not even notice.
After that, he simply entered the camp and began throwing kunai, hitting necks as they fell dead one after another, drowning in their own blood. People were doing their tasks and did not even notice, while other targets began to die behind them. Those who noticed were also struck, or had their path cut down easily.
When the last elf still alive finally realized, she was faced with a terrifying sight. The place was filled with corpses.
At first, it seemed that her eyes were deceiving her, as she saw bodies fallen all around.
She had gone only to fetch water in the buckets in the middle of the camp. Everyone had been there, laughing and talking. She only realized it when she finished filling the bucket and silence set in. Then, she encountered that vision.
In an instant, everyone was dead?
"It can't be...?" she said, taking a step back, before feeling someone touch her shoulder. She turned immediately and was caught by Madara's genjutsu, which quickly invaded her mind.
"So that means you are still working for the Nilfgaardian Empire, doing this kind of job to try to undermine the north?" Madara rummaged through all the information and did not fail to mock her.
"Well, it seems Francesca is still involved in this. Give her a message," Madara said, while the elf was still in a trance. "I will begin killing all the elves who are massacring humans. Your race will fall so far that it will be almost extinct. So it would be best to tell your queen to rethink a little about what she is doing."
Madara warned and threatened. After that, he simply turned his back and disappeared. The elf suddenly began to blink, finally coming out of the genjutsu. Madara's words had been quite convincing, as they easily entered her mind.
The elf only screamed and began to cry as she searched for her dead lover, trembling when she saw him there, with his throat cut. She was the only one spared among all the elves, feeling a great hatred toward Madara, but he did not care. After all, that hatred had started with them.
The elf gathered her things and ran out of the camp. There was nothing left for her there. She did not want to stay near that monster who said he would kill them all, so she headed south.
The other elves, who were farther away searching for any important shipment to warn the camp, were killed without knowing what hit them. They simply fell one by one, their skulls struck. Madara showed no more mercy to any elf. After obtaining the information from that elf, he eliminated them all.
He returned to Novigrad after that, meeting Dudu and reporting that he could send scouts, who would find all the elves dead.
Dudu merely nodded. It had only been two hours since Madara had left. He had simply eliminated all the Scoia'tael.
Madara watched the city a little longer that night. He wanted to see what people would say about the corpses of soldiers who had been killed by the elves, and it was certainly nothing encouraging, as they began to blame the non-humans once again.
"These idiots," Madara murmured before disappearing.
He returned at night to the mansion where he was staying with Triss.
"Hard day? I heard rumors..." the redhead asked, giving him a small friendly smile.
"Normal... anyway... I'm going to spend the night at the temple," he informed her.
"You always do that," she replied.
Madara shrugged and disappeared, going to spend the night with Ciri.
His normal routine continued for a while. He remained in Novigrad for the following months. The Scoia'tael displayed quite an interesting behavior, as they began to leave the north, or at least the region of Redania, since all groups started being eliminated one by one in the early days. The elves began to feel fear, and by that point, Francesca already knew what was happening. So, withdrawal was the only option.
When Madara completed six months since he first left Ciri at the Temple of Melitele, he finally completed the jutsu he had wanted so much.
Officially, he would now begin his hunt and return to that certain someone he had already marked without them noticing.
And so, Madara disappeared.
