The witch thought I am a Demon God-Chapter 583 - 332: Corpse Dragon Devil Tuber! Research Institute of the Ancient Civilization! (Two-in-One Super - ) _1
At the window of the tree house, Ivita saw a woman of the Longhair Tribe implanting a special Swamp Red Flower into the body of an infant. Thousands of delicate strands from the flower, as thin as nerves, intertwined into the infant’s own nerves, fusing deeply with the baby.
The infant, lying on the ’operating table’ about the size of a dinner table, was crying even harder now.
Crying hysterically, enduring intense pain, the woman of the Longhair Tribe seemingly turned a deaf ear and started sewing up the baby’s chest with something that seemed like spider silk threaded through a needle.
Miraculously, the infant’s body began to change.
Beyond the fuzz of newborn, hairless infant began growing numerous hair-like spikes that were steadily increasing in length.
Witnessing this, Ivita understood, that the hair on Longhair Tribe was not real hair.
It was rather a substance similar to nerves.
The hair was actually a product of a combination of human nerves and the delicate threads of the Swamp Red Flower.
If this were the case, then the Longhair Tribe was indeed an artificially modified synthetic species, unlike previous world’s cyborg research which focused on the fusion of humans and machines. What she was witnessing were humans grafting alien flora onto their bodies in the swamp lands.
The ’surgery table’ and ’surgical tools’ used were gathered from the marshlands by the Longhair Tribe.
With her eyes fixed on Barbaric Bone Tribe Leader, Ivita felt sickened by the idea of live infants being brutally transformed into these half-monkey-like Longhair Tribe, "Is the sacred secret of the Longhair Tribe this place where you transform babies?" she questioned the Chief.
Barbaric Bone was oblivious to Ivita’s distaste as he viewed this transformation as a blessing, rather than a vicious human experiment.
"Indeed, Lord Ivita," answered the Barbaric Bone Tribe Leader, "This is our Longhair Tribe’s Maternity Tree House."
"Here, we become different from the Hairless Tribe in the outside marshes. We have excellent bodily-neural coordination abilities. Even our three year olds without any training, can tread across a rope tied between two trees."
"Every member of the Longhair Tribe is a top-notch rider."
Following the direction in which the Chief was pointing, Ivita noticed the children of the Longhair Tribe swinging through the canopies of swamp trees like monkeys.
She also saw Longhair Tribe adults riding atop the unique man-sized Swamp Giant Lizards.
With Ivita’s sharpened sight, she noticed that the Longhair Tribe had coordination abilities that far exceeded a normal human’s. When the little children’s bare backs, covered with red long hairs, brushed against sharp branches during swings between the trees and treehouses, the long hair would always curl up instantly upon encountering the leaves and branches.
The adults riding the Swamp Giant Lizards had their red long hairs clearly capturing and responding to the wind speed and muscle movements of the lizards.
This indicated that the red hair on the bodies of the Longhair Tribe indeed had a nerve-like structure.
They were external nerves.
Ivita realized this was quite similar to the Extraordinary Organs in Knights.
It was basically an inferior version of Extraordinary Organs.
The current practices of Longhair Tribe surely represented an early, primitive utilization of the Alien Flora by humanity.
Judging by the density of treehouses, Ivita estimated the population of the Marshland People, the Longhair Tribe, to be about fifty thousand.
She could most likely organize a Giant Lizard Cavalry Troop of no more than five thousand with the Longhair Tribe from the marshes.
It was indeed a powerful cavalry force.
True, such a cavalry force would attract much attention from prominent nobles, yet the Longhair Tribe and Lizardmen, much like the Northern Highland Nomads of Earth in her previous life, were nuisances and scourges to others’ territories, but were hardly ever the forces in the hands of territorial lords.
Her chance of commanding such a force depended largely on Joanna’s personal prestige here.
The liberation of Lizardmen and the Longhair Tribe from the covetous gaze of human nobles was largely thanks to the marshes.
Human armies were virtually immobilized within this terrain, rendering large-scale invasions impractical. And, considering its lack of economic value and the constant harassment from different tribes, the marshlands were largely ignored and deemed as bad luck to any Lord with territories adjacent to them.
The Barbaric Bone Tribe Leader, fearing that Ivita might want to enter the tree house, carefully said, "Even I may not enter the tree house as it’s the dwelling place for our newly born infants. The women believe that we men will contaminate the air inside and affect the babies."
"Contaminate?" Ivita was puzzled. "What kind of contamination? Are they afraid that you’ll bring in foreign bacteria? But I see them perform ’surgeries’ inside without any sterilization procedures. They simply rely on the healing abilities granted by the Red Flowers."
She did not have any intention to get in anyway.
