(From Evan’s Perspective)

"He can recognize our voice, especially mine. He also can lift his head, like he is doing now, look," Blue said excitedly.

We were in Dion’s room, which was adjacent to the grand bedroom. There was a door in between, connecting them. Dion’s room did not have any other entrance or exit other than the one which led to Blue and the King’s bedroom. There was no window in this room. It was just perfect to keep their precious boy safe.

Dion was now on his stomach in his crib with his head lifted slightly as his black eyes followed us closely.

"We made this room for him, but he has not slept here yet. I feel really…"

"I understand," I said. "Fear will be there. We fear for the ones we love."

"Yeah… But I think we should start letting him sleep in his own room. Or, it might turn into a bad habit or something," she said.

"This room is safe. I see you have even used your magic to secure this room," I said, looking around.

"Yeah. I have to do all I can," she said. "I am not sure where we will prepare the other child’s room. Dem said we should just get another crib in this room. But I am not sure if they will like to share."

I took a deep breath. Well, she was married. It was bound to happen that she would get pregnant again. Maybe she would have a really big family. And I would have a family of my own. These feelings were truly distracting, but I should try harder to keep them in check.

"Maybe change the grand bedroom altogether. It can be hard though. So, I suggest getting another crib in Dion’s room for the first few months at least. First of all, I would tell you to stay safe and not work too much," I said. "Are you still working on the… eye?"

"I will be able to… maybe get it done in a month or two," she muttered. "I am not sure. Sometimes I feel like I can. But then, hesitation takes over me. Now that I am pregnant, I need to be more careful than before…"

"Yes, you need to. At this rate, you will have two kids before I even could get married," I said. "And you are a lot younger than me. Not just you. Your husband as well."

"Dem is just two years younger than you. And I am… Well, I am quite a few years younger than you, but you see, our situations were always different," she said.

"That’s not a lie. I didn’t get married when I was eighteen."

"See? It’s different for everyone."

Dion puked all of a sudden. Blue quickly took a napkin and wiped his face.

"You always do it, baby and then giggle. Is it so funny?" she chuckled and kissed Dion’s chubby cheek who giggled in response.

I had to smile. It was just too beautiful of a sight. And Dion’s giggle was contagious.

"I have brought a gift for him," I said, clearing my throat.

"A gift?" she blinked. "Ah, you wrote me about it."

"Two gifts actually," I said. I took out a small box from the pocket of my coat. I opened the box and took my gift out.

I took Dion’s hand and put the gold bracelet on his wrist. It had a round plate where a line was written.

’To the son who I love more than my own.’

"Oh, it’s a bracelet! It’s so beautiful!" Blue exclaimed. I had given her a bracelet similar to that before, however, there was no round plate there. Now that I thought about it, she never took that bracelet off, just like I told her to.

I smiled. "I was a little worried about the size. Then, I got someone to check the wrist size of a one- or two-month-old. But then I thought it would be better to get a bracelet made which can be opened, so he can wear it forever if it doesn’t get broken."

"Dion likes it a lot! Oh, he is already chewing on it," she chuckled.

"I know he has the habit to chew on everything. That’s why I made sure there are no sharp parts that can cut his mouth," I said.

"That day, his aunt gifted him a milk bottle. And he started chewing the bottom rather than the tip," she said.

"His aunt? Lady Ruby?"

"No, Evelyn. Dem’s sister," she shook his head. "Evelyn is staying at the side palace with her family. Little Ava comes to visit me and her cousin. What can I say? Ava is not particularly fond of Dion.

Dem said she is jealous of him."

"Isn’t she like kind of like seven?"

"Yeah… Almost seven," she said. "Dem’s family… Well, they have this kind of complex."

"It’s not much of a surprise, actually. All the Royal families seem to have some kind of twisted mindset that goes from generation to generation."

"I won’t say twisted, especially about this one, Evan," she said. "Kids tend to get jealous of their younger sibling sometimes as they think the younger ones get more love. It is not twisted."

"Blue, you know what I mean," I said slowly.

"… I don’t want to think about it."

"You will make a difference anyway. It’s not that we are born with a different kind of mindset. It’s our parents, the environment around us that teach us to be that way."

"Not teach, Evan. They force you to be that way," she said. "I will never let my kids be like that. Dem and I will try to be better parents."

"You already are better parents, when you announced you will not force your son to be the heir," I said. "Announcing it public was really admirable. Only one King ever did that before you two."

To others, the throne might seem like a dream place. It did offer a lot of wealth, but you needed to work hard to keep it. It also came with a lot of power, as well as a lot of enemies, restless nights and days, the pressure of wars, the pressure of work, and so on. It killed people from the inside. I knew how it felt very well and to be honest, I almost hated this life.

"Can you wait here? I will bring the other gift," I said.

"The other gift? Evan, you have given him a lot. You got him so many toys."

"He is my godson. Of course, I will give him more and more."

When I came back with the other gift, King Demetrius was in the room as well. Dion had fallen asleep and King Demetrius was trying to show something to his wife outside the window. They both looked really happy together. I might as well be happy for them, while still loving her.

As soon as I entered, they turned to me.

"Dem saw a weird bird today. He says it had a long nose," she giggled.

"A bird who has a long nose? Never seen one or heard of one," I said.

"I think it was the nose. It’s weird," the King said. "Trust me, it was right there. Now that I tried to show you, it’s not there anymore."

"Is that a…? Wait, Evan, is that a… potion? Why is that potion so pure? I have never seen one like this before…"

I handed her the small vial. She examined it cautiously, her blue eyes burning with curiosity.

"Oh my… This is the purest potion I have ever seen. How did you…? Did you make it?"

"No. No one can make a potion that pure," I shook my head. "It is a healing potion."

"Not just a normal healing potion. It can even heal internal bleeding!" she said excitedly.

"What? How did you find a thing like this?" King Demetrius asked.

"I have my ways," I said. "It is for Dion. Keep it safe. It is really hard to find." Find adventures on novelbuddy

"Is it really okay…?" Blue muttered.

"It is my gift, Blue. Of course, it’s okay," I said. "I would not like it if anything ever happens to him."

The way Blue reacted, it looked like she would faint if I told her I had given Dion the potion that was given to me by my grandfather. Before my grandfather died, he gave me this potion because he felt like my life was in danger. Maybe he cared for me, even if the way he showed it was not really normal.

I did not know where he found it. But I had used two drops of it once when I was dangerously injured, thanks to an assassin. I recovered immediately.

The potion could heal someone, but could not create an organ. If someone lost a part of their body, it would not give them that body part back but would stop the bleeding and heal the skin.

I did not feel the need to have it anymore. Maybe it was because I did not care whether something killed me or not.
