The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 79: Enter the Palace
Priest Erasmus had a smile on his face before he heard Crown Prince Richard’s question. As soon as the words entered his ears the smile on his face disappeared as Priest Erasmus’s face became expressionless.
"God is showing me brief sections of his will." Priest Erasmus closed his eyes as she loved his hands upwards as if he was trying to connect with the god.
The whole room was quiet as no one dared to speak. Everyone’s focus was on Priest Erasmus. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The man who held everyone’s focus looked down. He could feel the pressure of everyone’s gaze but also the power that came along with it. He knew that his words were valued and one word from him could determine the future of the Empire.
Priest Erasmus took a deep breath. He was not afraid to voice his opinion. He was rather happy that he was the youngest Priest that everyone looked up to. "God had not given any indication yet. So I ask you all to understand. Why don’t we let all the Princesses stay in the temple to be close to God?"
Everyone’s face stiffened. The Emperor looked at the Priest as he observed his reaction. Although the Priest did not show any change he could understand that no one knew when the next prophecy would come.
Although they had brought the Princesses here in the Empire they still had to wait till they received the next prophecy.
"Shouldn’t we let them stay in the Palace?" Duke Beaumont said, surprising everyone in the room. His sharp eyes and serious face made it difficult to argue with but Priest Erasmus smiled as if he was looking down on a naive child who did not know what he was talking about.
"And why should we do that?" Priest Erasmus was looking forward to Duke Beaumont’s explanation. He knew that there were only two people who went against his words and that were Duke Beaumont and Crown Prince Richard.
Priest Erasmus wanted to know how things would play out here. It was a well-known fact that both of them did not see eye to eye with each other. They never came to a single conclusion.
Priest Erasmus looked at Crown Prince Richard from the corner of his eyes. He wanted to see his reaction.
Both the men were polar opposite but so similar too. Duke Beaumont was known as a man who was cruel, strategic, manipulative, and yet irresistible. While the Crown Prince was charming, caring but calculative.
Although on the surface both were on good terms, the reality was something different. They did not see eye to eye with one another.
"I think Duke Beaumont is right," The Crown Prince said with a smile. Maybe he was surprised too at how their thinking matched. "Isn’t it better if we let all the Princesses stay in the Palace?"
Priest Erasmus looked between the two men. He could not believe his ears. How could they both agree with one another? But Priest Erasmus was not the only one who had the question bugging his mind. All the nobles had the same expression and so did the Emperor.
The Emperor smiled as he tapped his finger on the chair. An interest flashed in his eyes. "Let’s hear Duke Beaumont’s explanation first. Why would the Grand Duke think that this is a good idea?"
Duke Beaumont smiled as if he knew what was coming next. He had anticipated this much. "As everyone knows, I only sent my people to protect the Princesses because it was an order from the Emperor. Until the Princesse enter the Royal palace they are House Beaumont’s responsibility and I want to get over it."
The Emperor laughed as he looked at the man in front. His eyes showed his dissatisfaction and uneasiness. "So you do not want to be responsible? I thought my nephew was responsible. He even wanted to treat one of the Princesses because she was injured."
Duke Beaumont smiled but his smile did not reach his eyes, "I am the Duke of the Raulux Empire. How can I not be responsible for things I have taken in hand. My responsibility ends when the Princesses enter the palace and I wish to do my work at the earliest."
Duke Beaumont’s eyes sharpened as he said in a straight tone, "As for the Princess. She was injured because of my men. He was unable to protect her properly. And I cannot be disrespectful to the Empire and the temple. I will make sure that the Angevin’s Kingdom’s Princess reaches the Palace once she is fully recovered."
The Emperor was silent. He could see that Duke Christopher did not want to be acknowledged as the nephew of the Emperor. He was happy with the Duke’s title.
"And for the Crown Prince?" The Emperor turned toward his son as he wanted to hear his opinion.
The Emperor was well aware of the rumors that surrounded the Crown Prince but he also knew that his son had put on the face of a flirt because he wanted to achieve something.
Crown Prince Richard smiled as if he was waiting for the Emperor to ask him the question, "I chose one that should have a deep emotional connection with the Crown Prince. Won’t it be better if all the Princesses shift to the palace and we could develop an understanding? After all, if we wait for the prophecy to come and then get the chosen Princess to interact with me, won’t it delay things?"
Everyone was silent as they listened to the Crown Prince’s words. It made sense but it did not at the same time. There were a few nobles who wanted to oppose the idea but they looked for the one person who could help them they realized that he also had similar thoughts in mind.
Duke Beaumont also wanted the Princesses to enter the palace.
The Emperor laughed as he looked at both of the men in front of him. "Let the Princesses be in God’s care for two days and then they will enter the Palace."
