Chapter 58: Timid Princess

As soon as Nia walked out of the tent, Princess Eleanor opened her eyes.

The Princess looked around as if she was trying to make sure that her lady in waiting was not there. A smile formed on her face as she sat on the bed. Her eyes looked at the table that wasn’t that far from her. Her eyes could see the letter that Nia was writing on the table.

Princess Eleanor smiled as she walked toward the table. Her eyes narrowed as she touched the corner of the table avoiding holding the letter. Her eyes lingered around the letter as a smile formed on her face.

Princess Eleanor did not linger around the table a lot. Once she knew that she had read what she wanted to, she walked towards the bed and sat there. A smile on her face as she thought about her lady in waiting.

’Nia did not disappoint.’

’I think everyone will know by now that I am injured and in pain.’

’Will it make them satisfied?’

Princess Eleanor’s eyes were sharp as she thought about it. Her lips curled up as she blinked her eyes. Princess Eleanor had seen a few similar faces with the enemy troops. She was not sure if the enemy knew that they had a few people from the Angevin Kingdom along with them but Princess Eleanor sure did.

Princess Eleanor wanted to convey the news to people saying that she was injured. Although she knew that the two knights that were sent along with her would send the information, the Princess wanted to make sure that Nia was still loyal to her.

Princess Eleanor was silent as she blinked, ’I thought that Nia might say that I injured myself. It was always a possibility that she might not be able to keep silent in front of her lover but Nia did not fail me. He understood what I wanted to portray and she did not betray me.’

A wave of relief spread through Princess Eleanor. Her eyes were shining as she heard some footsteps coming her way.

"Princess?" Nia said in a soft tone as a fragrance of food came towards her.

"I am here." Princess Eleanor said as she saw Nia walking towards her with bright eyes. It was then that she realized that it was about to get dark outside. They were in the late evening.

Nia’s eyes flipped towards Princess Eleanor’s legs as if she wanted to make sure that the Princess was not feeling pain anymore.

"Nia?" Princess Eleanor said when she realized that her lady in waiting was not saying anything else. She was silently observing her as if she wanted to know something.

Nia soon came to her senses as she kept the food on the table before moving around the room lightening the lamps in the tent. Soon the tent that was about to be engulfed in the darkness was shining brightly.

"Princess, I brought the dinner," Nia said with a smile on her face. She looked proud as she walked toward the Princess with the plate filled with food. "It is said that we will be leaving for the temple in the morning."

Princess Eleanor nodded but soon her eyes narrowed. She took the plate and she asked, "What about you?"

Nia smiled as she shook her head, "Some of the other Princesses are here too. So all the lady in waiting and the servants have decided to eat together for now."

Princess Eleanor was silent but she soon nodded her head. "Nia, what to do is your own decision. I will not say anything about it but I just wanted to tell you that you need to be careful."

Nia’s eyes widened but she still nodded. As a lady in waiting, Nia knew that Princess Eleanor was saying those words because she was concerned about her.

Nia smiled as she realized that maybe the truth she thought that she had lost somehow was finally coming back. Princess Eleanor was showing her care towards her.

"I know." Nia managed to say as a smell played on her face. The happiness was visible in her eyes.

"I know." Princess Eleanor said in a small voice. "You are intelligent Nia. But as your friend, I just wanted to remind you we are here for a battle. Only one of the Princesses will be the Crown Princess."

Nia nodded her head. She knew what this was about.

"I will be careful of whatever I say," Nia said as she looked at the princess. Her eyes were still showing concern about the Princess. "The injury ..."

Nia wanted to continue but she did not. Her eyes lingered around Princess Eleanor’s legs but she did not say anything else. There was a slight tremble in her voice as if she was afraid to hear the answer.

Princess Eleanor smiled. "I will tell you something interesting Nia, pay attention."

Princess Eleanor kept the plate full of food aside as she blinked, "Do you know why I hurt my leg? Why did I want to have the injury?"

Nia nodded her head, "I do. Princess wanted to make Sir Kit’s words believable."

Princess Eleanor laughed but soon her eyes narrowed, "That is true but it is the half-truth. I wanted to make Sir Kit’s words true because I knew that when I go to the temple the Priest will want to see the injury. They would want to make sure I am not lying. But I am a little greedy too."

Nia’s ears sharpened. Princess Eleanor smiled as she continued, "You know I have a side that wants to get revenge. But I also have a greedy side and I want to go back to the Angevin Kingdom."

"But then that would mean..." Nia said in a small tone. Her voice was low as if she was whispering.

"Yes, Your mind is in the right direction. That means we want to be invisible. A timid Princess who was hurt along the way. Someone who could not even take care of herself."
