Chapter 421: The trial

"Give this to Abrielle make sure no one sees you as you go to her room." She instructed the aide who bowed and left the room.

At the door, the aide can cross Pierre. She avoided his gaze and then fled. Pierre closed the door behind him, and Rebecca’s back was against him.

"You already knew. Didn’t you?" He asked and she smiled. Rebecca didn’t answer Pierre, her eyes were locked on the mirror with a soft smile on her face as she continued brushing her hair.

She was getting ready for bed. That would have been the accepted excuse if her eyes were not red and her nose rosy from crying.

"I don’t know what you are trying to insinuate," Rebecca said calmly, not bothered by it. Pierre looked tired and deflated, his mind going to what had just happened a few minutes ago

******

A few minutes ago, after leaving the gate.

Pierre led Callista through the halls of his home to the family library. He led the group with Callista and Lucian following behind and the guards following them.

They arrived at the old library doors where all the important antiques of the Nightshade family have been kept for ages. The doors were opened and Pierre stepped in followed by the rest

His mind had a lot of things going through it, his guts told him she was his daughter, but when he thought of Abrielle, his heart squeezed. Still, a part of him was furious that he was fooled into raising the wrong daughter for 2 long decades.

"Please have a seat," Pierre offered for them to sit in a lounge area. Lucian nodded and then led Callista to a seat. They looked like a real couple without a doubt. There was this gentle look Lucian had in his eyes when he stared at Callista.

Pierre sighed and then walked further towards the long shelves. His footsteps echoed as he walked deeper, his feet felt heavy with each step he took until he got to the end.

A large picture hung on the wall, it was a picture of a young lady not older than 21 years old. She had beauty beyond words could describe, and she looked like the gentle snow frozen in time.

"What am I going to do goddess?" Pierre asked about the picture. It was said to be the image of Nyxoria, the goddess of the moon, who is claimed to be an ancient ancestor of the Nightshade family. It was said Nyxoria came down from the heavens to live with men. She wanted to understand the pain and trials of being human to make her a proper goddess. She fell in love with how simple men were and started a family, but unfortunately, gods and men could not coexist.

Nyxoria was forced to go back to the heavens.

Pierre pressed a hidden button by the side of the picture, and it moved, revealing a secret path. The path continued into a room.

It was an old dusty room being lit by magic stones that lit up on sensing someone’s presence.

There was a large safe that stood in front of him. Pierre pulled out a key he wore under his clothes then put it into the lock. He turned the key and the lock clicked but the door didn’t open

Pierre pulled in a breath then stretched forth his hand a rune started to form before him with bright golden lights drawing intricate patterns until it was done

" Aperta porta. " He muttered the spell and the door started to open. Pierre waited patiently for it to complete the process, and it opened before him. In the safe were antiques worth lands as big as a duchy. Rare items with immense value.

But in the middle of the large safe, which seemed like a small room, was a pedestal. A small silver box was kept on it. The box had very ancient writing from the start of Dacronia.

He grabbed the box and left the safe. "Claudere portam," he mentioned, and the doors closed on their own. He made his way from the secret room into the library, slowly approaching the place where Callista was seated, like he wanted to delay the truth from being revealed.

The guards were watching over Callista and Lucian. Callista heard Pierre’s approaching footsteps and glanced at him. "You are finally here."

Pierre didn’t say anything and just placed the silver box on the table. "It’s beautiful." Callista gushed admiring every inch of the box

"Your task is to open this box. If you are what you claim it will open without a problem." Pierre went straight to the point.

Callista stood up and then approached the table. "What am I meant to do?" She asked, and Pierre shook his head. "Nyxoria will tell you herself." He said.

She drew in a breath then placed her hand on the box before she could touch it. Her eyes went white, her hair rose on its own and was glowing with blue markings of ancient symbols spreading over her hand up to her face

A calm voice, soft and alluring chuckled in her ears. "I never knew a daughter of mine chose to stray," Nyxoria spoke in Callista’s mind.

Callista’s vision faded, and she appeared in what seemed like an ice castle. Jewels were carelessly placed on the ground. The place held a captivating beauty that all paled to the lady lying on a soft, long chair playing a harp.

"Goddess Nyxoria," Callista gushed. Nyxoria scoffed, her quiet time, cursing those bastards she hates, was interrupted. She hopes all of his descendants die.

"Is that how you greet a goddess?" Nyxoria lazily glanced at Callista, and an invisible force pushed Callista to the floor. She was lying face down on the ground.

Nyxoria dropped her harp, her soft purple and white robe clung to her body showing off her seductive curves.

"You would be dead now if you didn’t carry my blood. Consider yourself to have passed the test. That is the only reason I am not killing you because at least I have the compassion of a mother." She stopped in front of Callista.

Callista managed to look at the goddess’s face and she immediately understood the Nightshade family’s beauty and strong bloodline. "Has the box been opened?"

Nyxoria smiled, "No, I am not going to help a follower of the woman that made me come back here."
