Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Fighting a Way Out for the Female and the Cub

Elias Moretti stared grimly at the surging black mist, not saying a word.

The next instant, he abruptly coiled his body. His scarlet form became a crimson streak, shooting toward the mist. As he slithered, broken scales flaked from his body, oozing blood.

Gable shook his head, thinking, ’Evangeline is carrying a Fallen Beastman’s cub. How could he possibly protect them?’

Thorne raced back to the cave, the thick stench of blood instantly flooding his nostrils.

Mixed in with that sickly sweet, coppery smell was a scent he knew all too well.

Thorne’s expression changed drastically, his blood running cold.

His face deathly pale, he looked at Evangeline lying on the stone bed. Her eyes, which always sparkled with a cunning light, were shut tight. Fine beads of sweat dotted her pale face, and her swollen belly rose and fell with each breath.

He had never seen her look so fragile, as if she would shatter at the slightest touch.

Thorne’s fingertips hovered in the air, not daring to touch her.

His breath trembled, and his voice was fractured. "This... this is..."

Hearing Thorne’s voice, Evangeline opened her eyes and glanced outside, her breathing weak. "Someone’s coming." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Thorne whipped his head around, his gaze stabbing like a dagger toward the cave entrance. A cacophony of footsteps was approaching—the slithering of Snake Beastmen and the distinctive hissing of the Monitor Beastmen.

The scales on his body bristled as he lunged in front of Caden Albright.

Caden Albright’s arm was trembling as he threw firewood into the burning fire pit.

Thorne seized his shoulder, his grip so tight it could have crushed bone. "Get Eva out of here, now!"

Caden Albright’s bewitchingly handsome face was now ashen, drained of all color.

He violently threw off Thorne’s hand. Black mist churned wildly around him, agitating the boiling water in the stone pot so fiercely that it trembled. His voice was as hoarse as sandpaper, and his eyes were crimson. "Get out of my way!"

"Eva needs hot water!"

Each of Caden Albright’s words was wrapped in a violent tremor. "No one is stopping me!"

The boiling steam twisted and rose through the black mist, casting his savage expression in a ghastly, demonic light.

Thorne’s face was livid. He punched Caden Albright across the face. "Your identity as a Fallen Beastman has been exposed! The Grymdale Tribe and the Monitor Tribe have teamed up to kill you and the cub in Eva’s womb! Do you think you can protect them?"

Caden Albright’s pupils contracted, and the black mist around him roiled violently.

Outside the cave, the rising and falling roars of beasts were now clearly audible.

Caden Albright glanced at Evangeline. A drop of scalding water splashed onto the back of his hand, but he didn’t seem to feel the pain, not even flinching. His eyes were blood-red as he rasped, "You take her and go!"

Before the words had even left his mouth, his body began to twist and transform.

Snow-white fur burst through his skin. A fluffy fox tail unfurled amidst the surging black mist. The instant he transformed into The White Fox, he shot out of the cave entrance like a bolt of lightning, the cliff face cracking in his wake.

A bone-chilling voice, thick with killing intent, echoed out: "Whoever comes, I will kill them!"

Outside the cave, rain poured down in torrents, but it couldn’t drown out the sound of sharp claws tearing at the rock face.

Thorne’s knuckles popped as he clenched his fists, his dark green eyes fixed on the solitary white figure at the cave’s mouth.

Caden Albright’s fox tail whipped about in the storm. The dense black mist around him seemed to weave itself into a barrier, blocking out all danger as he carved out a path to survival for his female and cub.

"Damn it!" Thorne ground his fangs together, but ultimately turned and rushed toward the stone bed.

He bent down and gathered Evangeline into his arms, his movements suddenly becoming exceptionally gentle, as if afraid of breaking a priceless treasure. He whispered, "Eva, just hang in there."

As he spoke, his black snake tail violently swept aside the debris at the back of the cave, clearing a narrow passage.

A bloodcurdling roar suddenly erupted from outside the cave, followed by the sickening thud of tearing flesh.

Thorne’s scales all bristled. Without looking back, he ran down the back mountain path, carrying Evangeline. Her cold breath on the side of his neck made every muscle in his body ache with tension.

The cold rain of the back path lashed his face, mixed with the faint smell of blood drifting from behind them.

Thorne didn’t dare to stop for a single step.

*

The Monitor Beastmen roared, transforming one after another into their savage beast forms, their Scale Armor glinting coldly in the downpour.

Sharp claws and fangs tore through the curtain of rain, lunging at the white figure from all directions.

The White Fox dodged and weaved through the siege. His blood-stained tail swept out like a bladed whip, each swing unleashing a sharp, cold gleam—a far cry from the soft, fluffy demeanor he had around Evangeline.

The giant pythons of the Grymdale Tribe coiled at the edge of the battlefield, their cold snake eyes glittering with a dangerous light.

Just as they tensed their bodies to strike, Elias Moretti’s voice rang out. "Stop!"

His scarlet snake body blocked the other pythons as he stared at the center of the melee. "None of you are to make a move!"

A patterned python flicked its tongue resentfully. "But that’s a Fallen Beastman!"

Another voice rose in suspicion. "Did you know all along that there was a Fallen Beastman hiding in our tribe?"

"Shut up!" Elias Moretti shattered a nearby boulder with a lash of his tail. He said sinisterly, "If we attack him now, are you just going to let the Monitor Tribe reap all the benefits?! Don’t forget, they’re the ones who invaded the Grymdale Tribe in the first place!"

As he spoke, The White Fox’s sharp teeth sank deep into the throat of a Monitor Lizard.

His Beast Eyes were crimson as he glared at the beastmen present, the Eight-star pattern on his forehead emitting a faint, dark glow.

It seemed only slaughter could ease the taut emotions in his heart.

A low growl rumbled in Caden Albright’s throat, causing all the beastmen who met his gaze to instinctively take half a step back.

Saskia stood at the back of the crowd, staring at Caden Albright. Her eyes glinted as she barked, "Use poison!"

Hearing the order, the Monitor Beastmen all fell back. Their beast forms twisted and changed within the roiling black mist, transforming back into humanoids in the blink of an eye. They grinned menacingly as they pulled leaf-wrapped packets of poison powder from their beast skin loincloths.

"Kill the Fallen Beastman—" Mundo roared, being the first to hurl a poison packet at Caden Albright.

Dozens of poison packets flew through the air, erupting in an eerie, fluorescent light upon contact with the black mist surrounding Caden Albright!

The fluorescent green powder instantly tangled with the black mist, letting out a hair-raising SIZZLE.

Caden Albright’s fox ears shot up. He swept his tail forcefully, but some of the powder still managed to penetrate the barrier and land on a wound on his forepaw. Instantly, his fur and flesh began to rot at a visible rate.

The beastmen of the Grymdale Tribe turned pale and retreated, the muscles beneath their scales tensing up.

’That poison... the Monitor Tribe must have originally intended to use it on us!’

Gable watched Caden Albright’s staggering figure in the toxic mist. Large patches of his snow-white fur were peeling off, revealing rotting flesh. He frowned and asked, "What do we do?"

Elias Moretti glanced at Caden Albright, the Star Pattern on his forehead flickering. He quickly made a decision.

"We’ll wait for the Monitor Lizards to rip out the Fallen Beastman’s throat. Then we can go in and clean up the mess. Wouldn’t that save us some effort?" His voice was chilling. The tip of his scarlet tail scraped across the muddy ground, leaving a sinister trail.

’Now that Evangeline has been safely evacuated,’ he thought, ’this slaughter is nothing more than a dog-eat-dog spectacle to me.’

Through the curtain of rain, Caden Albright suddenly threw his head back and let out a mournful fox cry.

The black mist around him swelled violently, seeming to dye the very rain inky black. The three Monitor Beastmen closest to him were instantly consumed by the mist and reduced to skeletons before they could even scream.

"Heh..." Elias Moretti’s tail tip curled slightly, the muscles under his scales tensing.

’A Fallen Beastman who feeds on Beast Crystals truly lives up to the name.’

He flicked his tongue, tasting the ever-thickening scent of blood in the air. "Later, all of them..."

Before he could finish, a brilliant arrow tore through the rain, hurtling toward the Monitor Beastmen at astonishing speed. The fletching hummed, vibrating with immense power!
