Chapter 115: Quite the Little Charmer

Nix’s bamboo hut wasn’t large. With the sudden influx of people, it immediately felt cramped.

The rain poured down outside, while an eerie silence filled the room.

Elias Moretti and Orion, perhaps due to their status, lingered by the door, one foot still outside the threshold, not daring to step fully inside.

Upon entering, Thorne unceremoniously tossed Loras into a corner.

He was like a shadow, standing flush against the bamboo wall, positioning himself to keep everyone in his sight. His body was as taut as a fully drawn bowstring, the room’s lamplight fracturing into countless starlike specks in his eyes.

His gaze turned bone-chillingly cold when his dark green eyes swept over The Everwake, who lay at Evangeline’s feet.

Caden Albright’s narrow, fox-like eyes swept over everyone in the room. The moment he stepped into the bamboo hut, he caught a familiar, almost overpowering scent—it was Evangeline’s.

His gaze grazed lightly over Loras. It was clear she had spent the past few days of her absence with him.

Without a change in expression, Caden Albright’s gaze shifted, landing on Lachlan in the corner.

He was as still as a shadow, his long, flaxen hair plastered wetly to his shoulders, rainwater dripping silently from the ends. He held Bunny in his arms, his lowered lashes casting shadows on his pale face.

Caden Albright approached slowly, extended a hand, and said politely, "Thank you for taking care of Bunny."

Lachlan looked up at the sound, his clear, limpid gray-brown eyes briefly flickering over Caden Albright’s face.

But instead of handing Bunny over, he tightened his arms, nestling the sleeping little one deeper into his embrace, as if he were the Beast-father, not Caden Albright.

Lachlan didn’t even acknowledge Caden Albright. He simply turned, walked directly to Evangeline, and stood behind her.

Caden Albright paused, a faint, complex emotion flashing across his exquisitely handsome face.

Evangeline took Bunny from Lachlan’s arms, her fingertips brushing almost imperceptibly against his wrist.

The skin of his wrist, much like the man himself, was pale and clean, showing faint blue veins and still carrying the damp chill of the rain. Lachlan froze, his gaze lifting to linger on Evangeline’s face for a moment.

He didn’t flinch away, only lowered his head, a faint glimmer in his gray-brown eyes.

Evangeline cradled Bunny in her arms, showing no intention of having a private chat with him just yet. Instead, she addressed the room, "What just happened has nothing to do with any of you. Pay it no mind."

Orion was never one to hold his tongue. Staring at The Everwake lying on the floor, he frowned, his tone dangerous. "The Swarm emerging from The Abyss during the rainy season is hardly good news."

Evangeline looked up, her long lashes fluttering as she asked coolly, "Then what do you suggest we do?"

Murderous intent flared in Orion’s eyes, but it froze the moment he met Evangeline’s faint, mocking smile.

He had wanted to suggest killing The Everwake, but from the look on Evangeline’s face, it was clear she had no such intention.

Orion’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He crossed his arms, his shoulder-length, dark hair giving him an air of effortless cool.

He turned his head and shot Thorne a look, signaling for him to say something.

’This Everwake is extremely dangerous. He’s a menace. Keeping him around is bound to cause trouble sooner or later.’

Thorne’s slitted, dark green pupils glinted. He didn’t ask about The Everwake, lowering his voice instead. "Eva, the rainy season is only halfway over. Where are we headed next?"

No one present was a fool; Evangeline’s stance was already perfectly clear.

Even though The Everwake had come seeking revenge, she had no intention of killing him. On the contrary, she had decided to keep him around.

The moment Thorne finished speaking, Elias Moretti spoke up, his voice losing some of its usual somberness. "Come back to the Grymdale Tribe. You’re familiar with the place, and everyone has missed you all greatly since you left."

As he spoke, Elias Moretti’s gaze involuntarily shifted to Caden Albright.

’The whole reason Evangeline left the Grymdale Tribe back then was because of him, this Fallen Beastman.’

But after witnessing Evangeline’s power firsthand tonight, he suddenly understood. It didn’t matter if there was only one Fallen Beastman like Caden Albright—even if everyone here was one, Evangeline was more than powerful enough to protect them all.

What thrilled him even more was that a suspicion of his had just been confirmed.

’Evangeline was an insurmountable mountain, and she... she could lead them across the Triangle Sea!’

For that reason alone, he desperately wanted her to return to the Grymdale Tribe.

Orion’s gaze swept from Caden Albright to The Everwake, and his brow furrowed involuntarily.

’A Fallen Beastman and a dangerous member of The Swarm. The two of them together were a recipe for disaster. And what’s more, there was still...’

Orion’s gaze fell on Loras in the corner.

’He hadn’t forgotten that this man was also a dangerous master of the Nine-star Extreme Realm!’

’Every one of Evangeline’s Beast Husbands was trouble.’

’He was the future leader of the Sky-Rend Tribe; he couldn’t put his entire tribe in danger over a reckless impulse.’

And yet... Orion’s gaze drifted back to Evangeline. The fingers at his sides curled into tight fists, betraying an emotion he couldn’t put into words.

’He couldn’t lie to himself. He was drawn to this dazzling female.’

’Even though she was once The Virago of the Oasis Tribe—a female he had utterly despised and avoided at all costs.’

Evangeline glanced up, her gaze sweeping past Orion.

He swallowed hard and looked away, abashed, his fists clenching even tighter. ’Since I don’t have the courage to accept the people around her, I’ll just have to bury everything else.’

But Evangeline’s gaze didn’t linger on Orion; it fell instead upon Elias Moretti.

She idly smoothed Bunny’s soft, silver hair, her voice tinged with a languid aloofness. "Thank you for coming all this way to find me, Leader Moretti. However, returning to the Grymdale Tribe won’t be necessary."

As she spoke, Bunny suddenly woke in his swaddling.

Perhaps sensing his mother’s presence, a tiny, pink hand reached out and expertly snagged a dangling lock of her hair. His fluffy, snow-white ear tips twitched. A moment later, a small, fluffy tail burst free from his swaddling and wagged cheerfully in the air—the very picture of a little charmer.

The cool elegance in Evangeline’s eyes melted away, replaced by softness. Her slender fingertips gave the little fox’s ears a gentle squeeze.

"Well now, aren’t you a little charmer."

Bunny let out a tiny "AWOO," the tip of his tail coiling around her wrist. It was enough to melt even a heart of stone.

Evangeline chuckled, lightly tapping Bunny’s little pink nose. ’The cubs on the Beastman Continent are just impossibly cute,’ she thought. ’Soft ears, fluffy tails... it feels like having a pet.’

A muscle in Thorne’s jaw twitched.

’Bunny’s fawning, charming act was a carbon copy of a certain shameless man’s!’

He silently turned his head to look at Caden Albright, just in time to see the man’s lips curl into a silent smirk.

As if sensing his gaze, the corners of Caden Albright’s narrow eyes lifted. In front of everyone, he brazenly sat down next to Evangeline, wrapping a slender arm around her to pull her into his embrace while his other hand continued to tease the cub.

Sensing his Beast-father’s presence, Bunny reached out to grab Caden Albright’s fingers, his tail wagging like a tiny whirlwind.

Caden Albright chuckled, his lips nearly brushing Evangeline’s ear. "Look at Bunny. See how happy he is? It’s because he gets to see his mama, isn’t it?"

As if he understood his Beast-father, Bunny immediately let out an "AWOO" and nuzzled his little face into Evangeline’s palm, the tip of his tail wagging cheerfully like a fluffy dandelion puff.

The corners of Evangeline’s lips curved upward; her mood had indeed brightened considerably.

Seeing the softness in her expression, Caden Albright’s eyes darkened slightly, and he discreetly pulled her even closer.

A vein throbbed in Thorne’s temple. ’Isn’t this genetic inheritance a little *too* on the nose?’
