Chapter 120: Chapter 120: So Beautiful

Selene Kane finally spoke, her voice not loud.

Caleb Shaw was bending his head down, cutting her steak, the silver knife and fork making subtle noises against the porcelain plate.

Upon hearing this name, his hand paused suddenly.

The knife’s tip halted on the meat for half a second.

His eyes flickered, a barely noticeable trace of displeasure crossing his gaze.

"He hasn’t left the room, has been staying there all the time."

"The mountain spring water was brought in last night, and this morning I arranged for a warship to transport deep sea water, it’ll be replaced by the afternoon."

He continued speaking, as if reporting work.

Selene picked up a napkin from the side, leisurely wiping the corner of her mouth.

She didn’t look at him, simply said softly, "I’m going up to see him, don’t follow."

Caleb lightly murmured a sound, his voice so faint it was almost inaudible.

He stayed where he was, hands hanging by his sides.

That little guy must be throwing a tantrum.

Selene thought as she went upstairs.

Last night she’d been busy handling system affairs and hadn’t had the time to comfort him.

This morning he was nowhere to be seen, not having breakfast together even.

Given Zane’s awkward and sensitive nature, he was probably hiding in some corner, quietly shedding tears in sadness.

She reached the basement, where the decor wasn’t very refined.

The walls were bare cement, the ceiling hung with a few industrial-style pendant lights.

Yet, the overall impression wasn’t rough; rather, it had a sense of order amidst the ruggedness.

The most striking feature was the enormous pool in the center.

The pool walls were lined with deep blue glazed tiles, the water clear to the bottom.

She extended a finger, gently testing the water temperature.

Cool, with a touch of refreshing chill, yet not to the point of being bone-chilling, just right.

The moment her fingertip touched the surface, tiny ripples started to spread.

But the ripples didn’t travel far.

Suddenly, as if hitting some invisible barrier, they halted for an instant.

Then, the water unexpectedly surged back, as though forcefully bounced back by something.

The water surface immediately quivered slightly.

The next moment, a strand of blue hair slowly broke through the surface.

He lifted his head slowly, features gradually becoming clear, wet eyelashes trembling lightly.

Droplets of water slid down his sharply defined face one by one.

Suddenly, he extended his hand, firmly clasping her wrist.

As Selene’s toes touched the pool bottom, her eyes involuntarily curved into two bright crescents.

"I thought you were ignoring me."

Zane was harboring a bellyful of discontent and grievance.

The rebukes he had rehearsed countless times in his heart crumbled in an instant at her smile.

Yet, upon second thought, softening so easily made him seem too temperless.

So, he gritted his teeth, suppressing the warmth surging to his throat, abruptly released her hand, and stopped looking at her.

He quickly turned away, shoulder diving into the water.

Water rippled outward, layers of ripples spreading.

He swam away swiftly, his strokes steady.

"Can you teach me swimming?"

Selene stood by the pool, with some hesitation yet unable to hide her anticipation.

Almost the moment the words fell, the small blue figure in the distance spun around, turning back without hesitation.

He vigorously cut through the water with his arms.

Faster than when he came.

He quickly swam to her, popping his head out with a splash of water.

His wet blue hair clung closely to his cheeks and neck.

Despite being soaked, it didn’t diminish his unforgettable visage.

He floated lightly on the water, chest rising and falling slightly.

"You’re a Terrestrial Beastman, you guys... don’t usually like water."

Terrestrial Beastmen are born and raised among dry soil and rocks, accustomed to sunlight and sandstorms.

Whereas they, Marine Beastmen, are born in the saline sea currents and deep-sea shadows.

Their blood carries a deep attachment and reliance on water.

Logically, the two races could have lived in harmony, leaving each other alone.

But unfortunately, people from the land always liked to interfere, judging the marine tribes by their own standards.

They mocked the Marine Beastmen for their nudity, calling their frolicking in the water "barbaric," "indecorous."

They couldn’t understand why these beings wouldn’t wear clothes.

To them, wearing clothes symbolized civilization, marked "progress."

But for Marine Beastmen, their scale-covered bodies were the most natural and solid protection.

Born in water, growing up in water.

Their bodies were inherently compatible with the flow of water, wearing clothes would only become a burden.

What made Zane feel stifled was that Terrestrial Beastmen defined beauty and status with clothing.

Using fabric texture and color opulence to distinguish ranks.

The marine tribes never did this, valuing strength and spirituality instead.

These starkly different values stood between the two races.

Thinking of these past prejudices and misunderstandings, his mood sank bit by bit.

Clear spring water slowly covered his lips, then submerged his chin.

Finally, only his eyes remained above the water.

Those eyes, once bright as stars, now dulled and dim.

He floated there quietly, unmoving, only his eyelashes occasionally quivered lightly.

Selene sat silently by the pool, legs gently dangling in the air.

Her bare feet swayed back and forth above the water surface.

She tilted her head, lips curling into a gentle yet sly smile.

Insecure men are the most heart-wrenching.

Especially when they are obviously good in every way, yet always feel inadequate.

So handsome.

She thought silently to herself.

"I don’t dislike water."

Zane spoke in a low, slightly hoarse voice.

He was really aggrieved.

Not liking something is one thing, but why did it have to be said to her face?

When spoken aloud, the feeling of being set apart pierced like a knife into his heart.

Tears were about to fall.

But he bit down hard, not letting himself show any vulnerability.

In the next second, Selene tilted to the side, unexpectedly falling backward.

The water splashed with a "splash," creating ripples.

The surrounding water rushed in.

Gently yet dominantly enveloping her whole, her long hair fanning out in the water.

Immediately, Zane’s annoyed voice rang out.

"Why did you suddenly jump in? What if you drowned!"

He almost tumbled over, rushing into the water, scooping her up in his arms.

Her body was a bit cool, the drenched fabric clinging to her.

But he couldn’t care about that, just holding her tightly.

"If you don’t like staying in the water, I can live with you on land, don’t scare me like this."

His voice lowered, carrying a hint of choking.

"If something happened to you in the place most familiar to me, I’d never forgive myself. I... I can’t handle that kind of consequence."

Selene was held so tightly by him that she could barely breathe, coughing a few times, water dripping from her hair tips.

Yet her mouth curved into a faint smile.

"With you by my side, I’m not scared of water at all."
