The Villainess Redeems Herself, The Beast Husbands are in a Daily Love Battle-Chapter 106: Back to the Sea
The admiration, dependency, and even the subtle longing had long been eroded in the cycles of obsession and violence.
Whenever he appeared, nothing good ever followed.
She had initially thought Kate was reclusive and difficult to interact with, and was somewhat worried.
In the end, she found that there was no need to bother dealing with it at all.
It was Caleb who was unexpected. Who could have thought that someone so calm and rational as him would suddenly lose control?
Strangely, he hadn’t transformed into a beast; his body still maintained a human form.
But Selene Kane still stood unwaveringly opposite him.
"Zane is also my Beast Husband. My feelings for him are much deeper than yours. From the first moment I saw him, I knew he was the one who truly understood me."
"Who do you think you are?"
Her voice suddenly rose, carrying the suppressed anger that had been brewing for a long time.
"Have you ever been a qualified Beast Husband? Have you ever given me any warmth or care at all? Have you ever considered that a female longs for her husband’s response and concern every day after marriage?"
"From the day we got married, you never showed me a kind face."
Her voice trembled slightly, a trace of pain flashing in her eyes.
"Even in the most private moments, you were cold as if fulfilling a task, without gentleness, without love, not even a word of concern. I admit, I’ve pushed you, I’ve been harsh on you. I’ve tried everything to pry open your heart. But you, do you have no responsibility at all? Have you ever thought that I’ve been the only one holding this marriage together?"
As Selene Kane spoke, she grew more and more aggrieved, tears welling in her eyes, stubbornly refusing to fall.
She clenched her fists tightly, her nails almost digging into her palms, her voice choked.
"He’s a Commander, holding real power, leading the entire army. How could he not see that I was already at my limit? He knew I was on the brink of collapse, yet he chose to ignore it, letting me fall step by step into the abyss. He didn’t care, even relished in it."
"Now I don’t want you anymore."
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stand tall, her tone resolute.
"I want to start over. I like Zane; I want to be with him. He’s the only one willing to bow to me, to sacrifice for me, to fight for me. You have no right to control me, even less to interfere with my life."
Caleb Shaw could barely stand, his legs giving way, nearly falling.
"No..."
His lips moved, throat dry, and in the end, he could only squeeze out these two words.
Everything else was stuck in his chest, neither able to be spoken nor swallowed.
Years of indifference had accustomed him to silence, to repression.
But facing Selene Kane’s questioning, he suddenly found he couldn’t utter a single word in his defense.
He opened his mouth, but realized he truly had nothing to say.
What could he argue with?
It was he who gave up on her first; it was he who turned cold first.
Selene Kane just wanted to end this suffocating farce quickly.
She knew that staying longer would only embarrass them both further.
She was also acutely aware that as a female without spiritual power, it was imperative she didn’t let the Princess discover that fact.
"Whatever you want."
She finally turned around and walked out.
"Kill him."
He roared internally.
"As long as he’s dead, she’ll come back. She’ll only return to my side because, other than me, there’s no one in this world who can protect her."
In the instant the gunfire rang out, time seemed to stretch.
Selene Kane’s mind went blank, her reason not yet reacting, but her body made a decision faster than her mind.
She charged forward, using all her strength to pounce and shield Zane.
"Bang—" The bullet precisely hit her left shoulder, a burst of blood splattering, staining her clothes.
She groaned, swaying, nearly collapsing to the ground.
"Female Master!"
Zane roared, eyes instantly reddening.
He struggled free from the restraints, violently pushing away the guards, pulling her into his arms, his voice trembling almost uncontrollably.
"You crazy woman! Why did you do that? Do you know that bullet could have killed you!"
Her forehead was covered in cold sweat, brows furrowed in pain, her entire body trembling, lips devoid of color.
"I... can’t let you die... you’re... the only one who truly cares for me..."
Caleb Shaw suddenly rushed forward, shocked.
A thick blue arc of electricity erupted from Zane’s body.
"You still have the face to come closer?"
Zane roared, eyes ablaze with fury.
"Get away! You’re not worthy to touch her! You’re not worthy to stand by her side! You were the one who pushed her away, and now you want to act all affectionate? It’s too late!"
The incredibly powerful current tore through the air, instantly scorching the surrounding trees and cracking the ground.
All living creatures were paralyzed by the violent electricity, losing consciousness and collapsing.
Caleb Shaw slowly lowered his hand, the gun lowering with it.
Standing amidst the blue electric light.
Strangely, those violent electric currents.
Whenever they approached his body, they peculiarly became gentle.
They no longer attacked, but instead, like tamed snakes, crackled and circled around him.
"Caleb, are you alright?"
Kate was firmly protected by the guards behind her, her gaze peering through the gaps in the crowd.
Staring at Caleb Shaw’s solitary and desolate back.
She could tell that Caleb Shaw’s state was extremely unstable at the moment. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
She understood this was nothing more than the common jealousy and rivalry between Beasts.
With the Female Master favored, jealousy and competition among males were inevitable.
But the problem was, this time, it was Selene Kane who got hurt.
The already fragile and sensitive Female Master.
Although Caleb Shaw didn’t truly harm her with malice, that momentary loss of control was enough to leave an indelible mark on Selene Kane.
And Caleb Shaw, having hurt the Female Master, likely felt worse inside.
She was both anxious and heartbroken, her voice carrying a hint of pleading.
"Selene, stop this... Just say something to him! Admiral Shaw has always been restrained. The way he acted just now, he must have been pushed to the limit. Please go calm him down, or else... something really bad might happen!"
"Selene, I’m begging you!"
Meanwhile, Selene Kane curled up on the ground, in pain so intense she nearly vomited her entrails.
She was dying to curse that broken system’s ancestors to the heavens, berating it for showing up, for binding her, and especially for malfunctioning at such a critical moment!
Her hands clenched Zane’s clothes tightly, knuckles white, not even the strength to open her mouth.
But at that moment, every nerve in her body felt like it was being pierced by electric currents.
She really had no strength left, not a bit of energy could be mustered.
Zane paid no mind to his own left arm, deeply wounded by Caleb Shaw’s slash, the bone visible through the deep gash.
Blood was dripping from his fingertips, staining the ground red.
He gritted his teeth, pressing hard on the wound on Selene Kane’s abdomen, trying to slow the constant bleeding.
"Female Master, hold on... I’ll take you back to the sea soon."
"Let’s go back, back to the Nereid Palace. There we have the safest barrier, the most powerful healers, and... our home."
