Chapter 40: Abigail’s Anxiety

"You... Why are you crying?" Nicholas finally couldn’t help but ask, even surprised at how soft his voice sounded.

"Who’s crying?!" Abigail yelled at him again, raising other hand and wiping her face. Then she glared at him. "Who’s fault is that?! If you hadn’t gripped the card so firmly, I don’t think you would have had this injury! Let’s go. We are going to the hospital to get it checked." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"No-"

"Don’t you dare to say no need!" Abigail glared at him fiercely once again. "Just look at your hand! It’s still bleeding! And you say you don’t need it? Don’t you need to stay alive anymore?! C’mon!"

"You know the way to the hospital?"

Abigail’s footsteps paused slightly before she grabbed the man’s other uninjured hand and continued onward. "Who cares? The driver will take us!"

Nicholas again fell silent as he stared at the back of his wife. A frown crossed his forehead.

It seemed like it really wasn’t a terrible idea to marry this woman. At the very least, despite her mood swings, she had a heart.

At this time, he had forgotten how she had messed up his peaceful life ever since they married.

Abigail was truly anxious. She had never felt like this before. In the first place, she never had a family to take care of. Her mother never came to see her out of motherly love. Even if she came, it was just to see whether her daughter was alive or not.

As for the nurses and her temporary friends whom she would meet in the garden... If they got injured while in her presence, the director would be the first person to put all the blame on her. Even then, there would always be people to take care of those people.

So Abigail never got a chance to care about someone. Heck, she didn’t even know what it meant to care about people.

Right now, seeing Nicholas’s injury, there was only one thought in her mind. She couldn’t let her husband, her handsome eye candy, die terribly because of blood loss like that patient from before!

Her heart turned extremely anxious as she thought back to the event during her childhood. Back then, no one thankfully blamed her. The patient was already sick in the first place. So they gave Abigail treatment for a while to take care of her emotional state.

Despite having frequent treatments and psychiatric sessions, she was still extremely afraid of even a single drop of blood. The only time she managed to see blood was when she was on her periods. Of course, it took a lot of effort from the doctors in her asylum to make her believe that the period blood wasn’t harmful.

The duo reached the hospital in no time. They even found a cab quickly that helped them get to the nearest hospital.

Even though Abigail hadn’t been to a normal hospital alone like this, she had been living in the asylum all her life. So she confidently thought she would be able to deal with this situation.

She dragged the man behind her with full confidence and walked beyond the line of people standing in front of the receptionist desk. She didn’t even spare them a single glance, directly heading there.

"Wait..." Nicholas knew what she was doing and wanted to stop.

"No!" Abigail didn’t want to hear a single word she was saying. "I’m not listening to a single word you say! So stop f*cking speaking!"

The man shut his mouth and shrugged. In any case, he knew he was going to have a good show right now. So he continued to watch her back with interest.

Even his injury stopped hurting. Honestly, they didn’t have to come all the way to the hospital. He knew he could have stopped this woman, but for some reason, he felt helpless in his heart.

Abigail was probably the only woman after his mom whom he felt helpless against.

The woman he was thinking about walked all the way to the receptionist and tapped on the desk with her knuckles. Her expression was cold and icy as she raised her chin arrogantly.

"I want to see a doctor."

The receptionist was dealing with one of the incoming patients as she noticed a girl had fallen off the line. She smiled politely and pointed at the line and said, "Please stand at the back. These people came before you. So they’ll be catered to unless you have a VIP pass."

Abigail’s brows furrowed. "Didn’t you hear what I said?"

There was a displeased expression on her face as she stared at the receptionist.

"I heard clearly, madam, but this is our rule. We can’t let anyone break the line, or else the hospital lobby would be a mess. Please understand and don’t make things difficult for us," said the receptionist once again, politely.

If it were any ordinary lady, she would have listened clearly and accepted her fate, but not Abigail.

The more she listened, the angrier she got. When the receptionist stopped speaking, Abigail suddenly slapped her hand against the desk so loudly that the entire surface trembled. A pen rolled about and fell to the ground. Even the computer trembled because of her slap.

The receptionist’s face finally changed. A frown crossed her forehead as she looked at her while silently pressing the security button on her phone.

She didn’t need to talk to the guards to come. The moment the button was pressed, the security pressed forward with walkie talkies in hand and a rod shoved through their belt. They opened the door and rushed ahead.

Abigail saw the situation was turning against her and soon regretted her actions. Wasn’t it just standing in the line? She could have done that rather than make a scene! Now, she won’t even get a chance to glance at the doctor’s face!

If it were her, she wouldn’t have minded too much. But this visit was for Nicholas. If his injury didn’t get treated, would he die too?

Her heart turned anxious once again. She glanced at her husband and then turned to look at the receptionist, speaking anxiously, "Listen, I’m sorry, it’s just, my husband’s injury needs attention. Can you please—"

"Guards, kick them out."

"Wait a minute!" Abigail got even more anxious, but now, there was a trace of anger mixed inside. "Is this how you deal with patients?!"

"No," the receptionist’s face was cold, "This is how we treat intruders. If your husband is facing some difficulty, let him remain, but you should see yourself out."

The guards politely stood by the side, but they were still on guard. If the lady dared to make a ruckus, they would instantly grab her and throw her out.

All of a sudden, Nicholas’s voice vibrated from the back. "No need. I’m fine."
