Chapter 39: Are You Even Listening?!

Asher looked at her for a moment as he felt a trace of disappointment in his heart. Of course, what else could he expect? She was his cousin’s wife. So, she obviously would be happy to see her husband suddenly taking interest in her.

So what the hell was he doing here again?

Was he merely a second male lead who would unknowingly make waves and push the main characters toward one another, blossoming their romance? Meanwhile, what about him?

These types of characters would always end up all alone. Becoming the male lead or a supporting character was better than becoming the miserable second male lead.

Asher took a deep breath and decided to back away before things could escalate to a difficult situation.

"Well then I-"

"You’re also coming with me!" Abigail made a decision. Somehow, she could tell that the other wanted to return.

How could she not know? He was the character she created!

She cleared her throat and said, "I’ll be bored in the meeting. Can you come with me?"

"No."

"Okay~" Asher quickly changed his mind once Nicholas spoke up.

Despite everything, he never let a chance to irritate his cousin slip by.

Nicholas frowned. He was about to refuse when Abigail said, "Don’t you dare to refuse me! Since you’re bringing me to the meeting, I also want you to fulfill one wish of mine!"

And in the process, use Asher’s help to save Nicholas’s life!

Abigail nodded at the thought. She was so smart!

Despite her fun with Asher, she hadn’t forgotten her goal, which was to save Nicholas’s life. Of course, it wasn’t that she couldn’t find another person to save herself from the terrible fate of dying as the novel’s main villain. Asher was also a good choice.

It was just that she had a feeling that if Nicholas died, the rest of the storyline might end up heading toward the road of destruction for her just like in the original storyline. Abigail knew she had a slight chance to be saved if a major turning point could be changed.

So she took a deep breath and looked at her husband with a starry look in her eyes, seeming as if she had turned into a child who wanted her favorite toy.

Nicholas looked at her with a dark expression on his face.

His mind had drifted off to a completely different topic. Since Abigail would be with him with Asher right in front of his eyes, he would at least make sure they didn’t spend time together. But if Asher was left alone, he might try other ideas behind his back to get Abigail on his side, irritating him even more.

So he finally nodded stiffly, saying, "Alright, but Abigail stays with me at all times. And you." He looked at Asher with a hint of a displeased expression on his face. "Since you want to come, you’d better help me with the business deal. Let’s see how much you have progressed."

Asher felt like he was challenged. So he raised his chin and said arrogantly, "Okay. Let’s see what kind of dealer you have got."

Abigail coughed. She knew whom they were going to face: her mom. The woman was difficult to deal with in real and novel life!

Since everything was decided, they headed to the hotel. Thankfully, extra VIP rooms were available. So, Abigail and Asher got two separate rooms despite not booking in advance. It was just that their rooms were far away from Nicholas’s. Even more irritating was that Asher and Abigail lived in adjacent rooms.

His entire face darkened when Nicholas looked at the room cards with appropriate numbers. A bitter emotion filled his heart as he stared at their cards.

"Oho~" Asher was enjoying his cousin’s expression as he leaned toward Abigail and said, "We are neighbors, cousin-in-law!"

"That’s right!" Abigail also realized this as she giggled and said excitedly, "We will have so much fun! That means if I don’t fall asleep at night, we can watch movies together, right?"

"Sure~"

Nicholas’s face darkened even more as he looked like a blackened ice cube, oozing out fumes of coldness. His grip on his card tightened further to the point that it broke under his grip, creating a crisp sound.

Both Abigail and Asher stopped talking and looked at the man. She then lowered her head and looked at the scraps of cards falling to the ground and then at the drops of blood falling onto the ground drip-by-drip. Her eyes widened.

"Nicholas!" Abigail freaked out seeing all that blood on the ground.

Back in the asylum, she hated and feared the sight of blood most. One of her neighbors puked blood all over her once and died right before her eyes when she was a kid. So, that incident made a big impact on her life.

That was why she started to tremble upon the sight of blood, but she still couldn’t let her husband bleed like that!

She quickly pulled out her scarf from her purse and forcibly took the man’s hand, throwing away the pieces of broken card from his hand. She quickly started wrapping the scarf around the hand to stop the bleeding. Even if the injury wasn’t too much, her hand still trembled.

"You... Do you have to be so angry?" Abigail started nagging at him to forget her fear of blood. "How can you hurt yourself like this?! Just... Just look at all the blood on the ground! You..."

She continued nagging and mumbling under her breath, making the two men stunned.

Asher looked at the scene in front of his eyes and felt ridiculous in his heart. This was another wake-up call for him.

He silently stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked away without looking back.

Nicholas was similarly shocked. Seeing his small injury, he hadn’t expected this woman to react so much. The traces of bitterness vanished from his heart without a trace, replaced with small traces of warmth that slowly filled his heart.

He had never felt like this before, but he sure knew he liked the attention that she was giving him. At the very least, her eyes weren’t on that d*mned cousin of his.

"Are you even listening?!" Abigail raised her head, and only then Nicholas realized that her eyes were red.
