Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Pursuers, Night Abyss’s Slaughter

A gray, oppressive poison fog, thick as ink, settled over the land. The stench of rot mingled with the acrid smell of acid rain.

The acid rain hammered against the Bone Wings on Night Abyss’s back, creating a dense PING PING sound.

Su An’an huddled in Night Abyss’s arms, her pupils, veiled by a grayish-white film, trembling slightly.

Her stomach was twisted in knots, and her throat was painfully dry.

They had been walking for over five hours, but there was still no sign of the Rebel Army’s base.

’Anxiety spread through her heart like wildfire.’

"Are you hungry?" Night Abyss’s hoarse voice carried a trace of exhaustion.

He looked down, his crimson vertical pupils sweeping over Su An’an’s pale lips.

His right hand, caked with dried blood, pulled out their last nutrition bar and offered it to her lips.

Su An’an shook her head, fumbling to push it away. "You need this more than I do."

’Night Abyss is our only way out of here. In this desolate wasteland, every ounce of strength is a matter of life and death.’

Night Abyss’s well-defined fingers pinched her jaw, and without another word, he shoved the nutrition bar into her mouth. "Open!"

The warm pads of his fingers pressed against her lips until Su An’an was forced to bite down on the food. Only then did he let go.

Watching her struggle to swallow, Night Abyss’s scaled thumb gently caressed the corner of her mouth. "It’ll be over soon. Just hold on a little longer."

Suddenly, Su An’an’s sea of consciousness trembled violently.

A chill shot up her spine to the crown of her head.

Amid the stench of decay, a cloying, metallic scent, like rust, was rapidly approaching.

"I smell spiders to the southeast."

Her hoarse warning struck like a heavy hammer.

Night Abyss’s back instantly tensed like a drawn bow. He carried Su An’an up into the branches of a twenty-meter-tall tree.

His crimson vertical pupils narrowed to pinpricks, locking onto a pile of rotting wood a hundred meters away.

A three-meter-tall Lizard Beastman was inspecting the corpse of a Mutant Beast that Night Abyss had killed.

"These claw marks belong to a Poisonous Flood Dragon."

Bone Splitter ripped the Mutant Beast’s organs out and threw them on the ground.

"Have the Heart-Eating Nightmare Spiders find them."

Behind him, twenty Lizard Beast Soldiers simultaneously tore open web sacs.

Dozens of Heart-Eating Nightmare Spiders scrambled out, baring their fangs and brandishing their claws.

After devouring the Mutant Beast’s organs, their eight compound eyes turned in unison toward Night Abyss’s hiding place.

"I want them dead or alive! Let’s see just how capable this Empire Executor really is."

Bone Splitter’s scarlet tongue licked greedily across his fangs as a bizarre, grating laugh, like metal scraping against metal, erupted from his throat.

The Lizard Beast Soldiers, like unleashed hounds, surged forward in a foul-smelling tide.

A hundred meters away, Night Abyss stared intently at the Lizard Beastmen commanding the Heart-Eating Nightmare Spiders and muttered, "They can actually control Heart-Eating Nightmare Spiders?"

’Beastmen and Mutant Beasts have always been mortal enemies.’

’But now, these monsters are obeying commands like well-trained servants.’

The bizarre scene set alarm bells ringing in his mind.

"What do we do? They’re coming after us!" Su An’an’s clouded eyes darted about nervously.

Her trembling fingers clutched tightly at Night Abyss’s bloodstained collar.

"This time, it’s my turn to crush their throats," Night Abyss’s voice was cold enough to scrape frost.

He carried Su An’an and plunged into a cave like a stone falling into a black abyss.

The cave’s passages crisscrossed like a spiderweb, but his bestial instincts led him deep into a crevice just wide enough for one person to squeeze through sideways.

"Don’t move. Don’t make a sound!"

Night Abyss gently but irresistibly pushed her deep into the rock crevice.

He pulled down loose stones from above to build a shelter, leaving only a small air hole for her to breathe.

From above came the RUSTLING sound of a Heart-Eating Nightmare Spider’s hairs brushing against the rock wall.

Bone Splitter’s voice, mixed with the nauseating sound of saliva, echoed off the cave walls.

"Princess, stop hiding! Your delicate skin, combined with the Bone Spikes on my back, will surely produce the most perfect half-breed!"

Hearing his words, a terrifying killing intent flashed in Night Abyss’s crimson vertical pupils.

His purple Bone Blades and Bone Wings erupted outward, sending a shower of shattered rock as he charged toward the source of the sound.

Bone Splitter let out a savage laugh. His Bone Spikes clashed with the Bone Blades, sending out a thousand sparks and making the entire cave hum.

"Is that all the Empire Executor has got?"

Bone Splitter shrieked, and a cacophony of scuttling sounds suddenly filled the air.

Dozens of Beast Soldiers, moving with strange steps, formed a battle formation as a tide of spiderwebs surged from all directions.

Sticky white silk instantly entangled Night Abyss’s limbs. The Heart-Eating Nightmare Spider’s venom SIZZLED on his scales.

Seeing this, Bone Splitter threw his head back and laughed. "Wrap him up tight!"

The Beast Soldiers roared in unison as layer upon layer of silk enveloped Night Abyss, trapping him in a writhing cocoon.

Night Abyss’s pupils suddenly contracted into scarlet vertical slits. Dark purple patterns began to writhe across his skin like living things.

His body abruptly grew three feet taller. Bone spikes popped out from his spine with a CRACK-CRACK, and purple flames erupted from his skin, instantly incinerating any silk they touched and turning it to ash.

Bone Splitter’s expression changed drastically. He turned to flee.

But Night Abyss’s Bone Blade was already scything through the air like the Grim Reaper’s scythe.

Bone Splitter’s head flew from his shoulders, and his massive body crashed to the ground.

"Stop him!"

The Lizard Beast Soldiers commanded the Heart-Eating Nightmare Spiders to block Night Abyss’s path.

Night Abyss waved a hand. The purple flames surged back along the silk strands, instantly burning the entire swarm of spiders to cinders.

The Lizard Beast Soldiers were scared out of their wits. They turned to flee but were pinned to the rock wall by Bone Spikes thrown by Night Abyss.

When the smoke cleared, Night Abyss stood in the center of the scorched earth, the purple flames around him flickering uncertainly. He looked like a Demon God returned from Hell.

"Night Abyss?" Su An’an’s eyelashes fluttered. Her pupils, veiled by a grayish-white film, were vacant and lightless, yet they turned precisely toward the source of the sound.

"Don’t be afraid. It’s over."

Night Abyss’s voice was hoarse and laced with the smell of smoke.

He carefully lifted her from where she was curled up deep within the crevice.

"Your aura has become very violent."

Su An’an pressed her face against Night Abyss’s heaving chest.

Night Abyss placed his palm on the back of Su An’an’s cool neck.

He forced himself to slow his breathing, but an uncontrollable, bestial growl still escaped from between his teeth.

"It’s nothing. This way, I can protect you better."

The tip of his tail unconsciously coiled around her trembling calf, his hard scales brushing lightly against her skin.

Again and again, like a clumsy attempt to soothe her.

Su An’an suddenly stood on her tiptoes, fumbling to press her lips to his. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Night Abyss tensed, but he saw her bite open his bloodstained collar, revealing a ghastly wound on his collarbone.

"Your heart rate is 17% faster than normal."

Her fingertips pressed against his throbbing pulse point. Her voice held a barely perceptible sob. "Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt?"

"I’m not hurt. My heart’s racing because you touched my waist just now."

Night Abyss suddenly chuckled. The tip of his tail deftly wrapped around her wrist as he placed a light, blood-scented kiss on her palm.

"You make me lose control more than any Heart-Eating Nightmare Spider’s venom."

He teased her in a deliberately light tone, but the scales brushing against the back of her hand were trembling slightly.

But Su An’an’s fingertips traced the protruding vein on his neck as she asked stubbornly:

"How many times have you gone berserk?"

’Her sea of consciousness keenly sensed the increasingly turbulent violence in his aura.’

Night Abyss’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He gently brushed a speck of blood from her hair. "Don’t worry. I can handle it."

As he answered, he inconspicuously took half a step back, afraid that the residual poison fog on his body would harm her.

"Night Abyss, you’re hiding things from me again."

Su An’an’s fingertips trembled as she traced a path up his bloodstained collar, finally stopping at his violently bobbing Adam’s apple.

"Every time you go berserk, your aura becomes more violent."

"Tell me, how bad is it this time?"
