Chapter 52: Chapter 53: My Son is the Cutest in the World

Watching Naomi Kenway walk away, Chelsea Raines scratched her head. "She’s so damn neurotic, always ruining a good night’s sleep!"

Snores erupted from beside her. Jared Woods was fast asleep.

Just as Chelsea Raines was about to lie down again, she heard another set of footsteps outside. This time, it was the production crew, their voices urgent. "Ms. Raines, we need to get out of here, fast!"

’The production team wouldn’t be joking about this.’ Chelsea Raines started to panic. Before she could even react, a crew member was pulling her out of the tent and forcing her to run, while a sturdy staffer hoisted Jared Woods over his shoulder and took off with him.

They only stopped after putting some distance between them. Jared Woods was still snoring; unbelievably, he hadn’t woken up.

A massive thudding sound reached them, both deep and piercing. It was a noise no human could possibly make.

Chelsea Raines glanced back.

A herd of enormous elephants advanced at a steady pace, swinging their long trunks. Everything in their path was trampled. The camera equipment they hadn’t had time to retrieve was shattered in an instant, and the tents they had painstakingly pitched were destroyed.

It all happened in a flash. ’If the guests had still been asleep in the tents...’

Chelsea Raines’s legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.

Due to the unexpected incident, filming for the second episode was suspended. Fortunately, no one was injured, and all the guests were sent home on a private plane to rest and recover.

The night-vision cameras captured the entire terrifying ordeal. Since *My Super Mom* was a hugely popular celebrity-parenting show, the incident quickly sparked widespread discussion online.

[I just took a nap, how did I wake up to all these trending topics?!]

[Naomi Kenway’s instincts are amazing! She sensed something was wrong and immediately alerted the other cast and crew. The consequences would’ve been unimaginable otherwise! (Like)(Like)(Like)]

[Chelsea Raines’s attitude was horrible. She should apologize to Naomi Kenway. She really doesn’t know how to appreciate it when someone helps her!]

[What the hell is the production team doing? Shouldn’t they have had a comprehensive safety plan before they started filming? How could an accident like this happen? If Naomi Kenway hadn’t warned everyone, the guests would’ve ended up with much more than just a scare!]

[This reality show is so good, they’re not going to cancel it, are they?]

[None of the guests were hurt, so probably not. But the production team really needs to beef up their safety protocols.]

...

Facing the widespread online controversy, the production team quickly issued an apology and a response.

My Super Mom V: We offer our deepest apologies for the serious consequences caused by our production team’s negligence and promise that an incident like this will never happen again! The show will be postponed for one week for adjustments. See you for the third episode, friends, and we look forward to your continued oversight! Our apologies for the scare @DirectorRubyPreston @MargaretJennings @HostChelseaRaines @NaomiKenway @Mona’sMommy

The production team’s apology was sincere, and they quickly earned the forgiveness of many netizens, though some, of course, weren’t buying it.

Naomi Kenway received a personal phone call from the chief director, Jacqueline Grant, thanking her. Jacqueline repeatedly assured her that such an incident would never happen again and that safety would be the top priority when selecting future filming locations.

After hanging up, Naomi Kenway stretched languidly.

Soon after, Ruby Preston and Margaret Jennings also tagged her on Weibo to thank her for the warning. After a long while, Chelsea Raines posted something as well. Renee Jennings was the last to do so.

Naomi Kenway glanced at the posts and put her phone away. ’These thank-yous aren’t all sincere. Some are probably just due to public pressure.’ She couldn’t be bothered to play along with their act.

Chelsea Raines’s awful attitude had been exposed, and people all over the internet were demanding she apologize to Naomi Kenway. However, Chelsea Raines had yet to act, and her comments section was overflowing with hateful messages.

Naomi felt a little dazed seeing this. She remembered not long ago when she was the one being relentlessly attacked by netizens. ’Public opinion really can change so much.’

Having flown back overnight, Naomi rubbed her aching temples. She decided to go downstairs for a cup of coffee and admire the flowers.

Naomi headed down the stairs.

Ian Shaw was sitting on the living room carpet, holding two toy cars. His round, chubby face was a picture of concentration. He wasn’t wearing his little dress shoes, and his plump, fair toes were utterly adorable.

Hearing footsteps, Ian Shaw whipped his head around, his round dimples deepening with a wide smile. "Mommy!"

Naomi’s heart nearly melted at his smile as she slowly walked over.

Ian Shaw seemed to remember something. The smile vanished from his face, and he hid the toy cars behind his back, his eyes looking lost and apologetic. "Mommy, I only played for a little bit. I promise I wasn’t slacking off! Annie will go study right now!"

Naomi quickly took his arm. "Didn’t you already study this morning? Since your homework is finished, there’s nothing wrong with playing for a bit."

’Kids these days are under so much pressure. Playing has become the opposite of diligence, to the point that it actually makes a child feel guilty.’

Naomi didn’t feel gratified by this; she only felt a pang of heartache.

’You’re supposed to do different things at different ages. A childhood without play and joy is no childhood at all. That whole stage of life would just be a blank space.’

"Come on, let Mommy see your toy cars."

Naomi played with Ian Shaw for a while, only then realizing just how much her son could smile.

"This little car is named Annie, and the big car is named Mommy." Annie pushed the two toy cars so they were touching. "The little car will always follow the big car. The little car loves the big car more than anything in the world..."

He suddenly looked up, his large, dark, grape-like eyes fixed on Naomi. "What about the big car? Does it love the little car?"

Naomi smiled. "The big car loves the little car more than anything in the world, too."

Having gotten the answer he wanted, Ian Shaw was absolutely beaming. "The big car and the little car will be together forever!"

The weather was perfect, so Naomi took out her phone, snapped a candid photo of Ian Shaw playing with his cars, and shared it on WeChat and Weibo.

Naomi Kenway V: My son is the cutest in the whole wide world! (Image)

[AHHH, a new picture of Annie! What an adorable baby! C’mere and let Auntie kiss your soft little cheeks!]

[Hahaha, I had no idea Annie liked toy cars too! My son is glued to his all day long!]

[Annie’s wittle feetsies are so cute!]

[Why is he playing all the time? Naomi Kenway is going to spoil that kid. He’ll end up just as useless as her. Like mother, like son, I guess. Annie doesn’t look as smart as Mona. Renee Jennings just posted a picture—Mona has been studying since six in the morning!]

[Kids can’t just play all day! His studies will fall behind, and he’ll regret it later! Education has to start from the cradle!]

[Take a look at whose page you’re on. To the trolls in the comments above: go screech somewhere else.]

...

After two episodes, Annie had gained quite a few fans. Some had even set up an official fan club and a Super Topic for him on Weibo.

The comments section was mostly positive, but it wasn’t without its share of foul-mouthed trolls who would attack even a child.

She didn’t care if people insulted her, but Naomi fired back at every single person who verbally abused Ian Shaw before deleting their comments and blocking them.
