Chapter 396: Chapter 398: Intern Parents

When she finished speaking, she bowed, her attitude perfectly sincere.

Applause broke out.

Jeanette Kensington straightened up and smiled at Caleb Bishop beside her. Seeing him staring blankly into the distance, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of annoyance. However, with so many cameras pointed at them, she kept her smile fixed in place and reminded him, "Caleb, it’s your turn to introduce yourself."

Caleb Bishop snapped out of his daze. For some reason, he wasn’t in the mood for introductions. "...I’m Caleb Bishop."

Jeanette Kensington’s smile cooled slightly, but she quickly smoothed things over. "My apologies, my fiancé takes a little while to warm up. He isn’t used to the spotlight. The only other time he’s been on a show was for a dating series with me back in Hansea. He always gets a little uncomfortable in front of the camera, so I hope you’ll all be patient with him."

"Don’t worry about it," Ruby Preston said. "He’ll get used to it."

Jeanette Kensington shot her a grateful look.

[Jeanette! I seriously never dreamed it would be her!!]

[Jeanette! Oh my god, it’s actually Jeanette!! I love you so much!!]

[They actually managed to get Jeanette? Way to go, Super Mom, I knew you wouldn’t let me down!]

[Queen Jeanette is so beautiful and elegant! *drools all over the screen*!!!]

[Wow, they’re such a good-looking couple. Jeanette just said fiancé, so does that mean they’re engaged?]

[I don’t think so? There hasn’t been any news about it. But they’ve been together for years, and their relationship has always been super stable. One of her biggest fans revealed that when Jeanette went to Hansea to become a trainee, her boyfriend immediately dropped everything in his career to go with her! Now they’re both successful in their own fields. This is what a supportive, power-couple relationship looks like. I ship them so hard!!]

[Wait, but they aren’t married, are they? So why are they on a parenting show? They couldn’t have had a kid in secret, could they??]

[It’s totally possible. I heard they’ve been together for almost ten years. Having a kid wouldn’t be that surprising. But why they haven’t officially tied the knot is a real mystery. Maybe they don’t believe in marriage?]

[Holy cow, so Super Mom is actually an exposé show? First, we had the livestream of Mr. Jennings’s birthday party, and now we have Jeanette Kensington with a secret love child? OMG, there’s so much tea!!]

[Jeanette has never shown any sign of having a kid. How could she have one out of wedlock? Some of you people need to stop slandering our Jeanette’s name!]

[I was thinking, maybe Jeanette Kensington and him are going to be looking after someone else’s kid? Didn’t the production team say they were trying a new format?]

...

The moment they saw Jeanette Kensington, all the other guests looked astonished. They seemed to want to say something, but in the end, they held their tongues.

It would have seemed rude.

As if reading everyone’s minds, Jeanette Kensington smiled and linked her arm through Caleb Bishop’s. "Please, don’t get the wrong idea," she explained. "We don’t have a love child."

The host explained, "That’s right. As our final guests, Jeanette and Caleb will be joining as ’intern parents.’ They’ll be paired with a child who isn’t from a celebrity family to experience the show!"

Jeanette Kensington asked, "Oh? Where’s our child, then? Why haven’t they come out yet?"

"Penny is already waiting," the host said. "But before you can form your family, you’ll have to pass a little test. Our young guest is quite introverted and shy. She’s having a hard time adjusting to the show and is in a bit of a mood right now. If you can convince her to join your team, you’ll have passed the test."

Jeanette Kensington took a deep breath. "That sounds like quite a challenge."

The host smiled. "Think of it as a dress rehearsal. I hear you’re getting married soon. Congratulations!"

Jeanette Kensington replied shyly, "Thank you."

Caleb Bishop nodded. "Thank you," he echoed.

Accompanied by the faint sound of crying, Penny Morgan walked over with a staff member. She was wearing a beautiful princess dress, her hair was tied in pigtails, and her round cheeks were flawless and tender. The only thing marring the picture was her red-rimmed eyes.

The moment she saw the girl, Jeanette Kensington froze. A flash of revulsion crossed her face because the child bore a strange resemblance to a young Naomi Kenway.

When Naomi Kenway was little, she had a round, baby-fat face and round eyes. Her dark, expressive eyes always seemed as if they were about to speak.

The child’s face inexplicably grated on Jeanette Kensington, dredging up the memory of another face. The only difference was that the young Naomi Kenway hadn’t been such a crybaby. When she got angry, she would just puff out her cheeks, rarely shedding a tear.

Jeanette Kensington’s emotions were a complicated mess. She looked at the doll-like little girl a short distance away, all her earlier enthusiasm gone. ’Did the production team find this kid on purpose just to spite me?’

In contrast, Caleb Bishop’s expression instantly softened. He pulled out a handkerchief and gently wiped away Penny Morgan’s tears. "Don’t cry anymore. How about I play with you?"

He bent down, scooped up the little girl, and coaxed her softly, "Look, there are little lambs over there. Do you like lambs? Shall I take you to see them?"

Penny Morgan stared blankly at Caleb Bishop, and for a moment, she actually stopped crying.

"I want to go home..."

"You can go home very soon. But before that, how about we play a game first?"

"What game?"

"A game of playing house. You can be the daughter, and I’ll be the dad. As soon as we finish this game, you can go home."

"Really?"

"Really. It’s a very fun game. Are you sure you don’t want to give it a try?"

With Caleb Bishop’s gentle coaxing, Penny Morgan finally nodded.

Everyone nearby praised Caleb Bishop’s charisma, calling him a natural with children. Jeanette Kensington, however, felt a sour knot of jealousy tighten in her stomach.

"Hey, I don’t know why, but I feel like this child looks a little like you, Nina!" Margaret Jennings leaned in and whispered in her ear.

"She does?" Naomi Kenway collected herself, her expression returning to one of indifference, though it was a little colder than usual.

"Yes, her eyes are very similar to yours. She couldn’t be a distant relative, could she?" Margaret Jennings said with a laugh.

Naomi Kenway forced a smile. "Perhaps."

Noticing Naomi Kenway’s low spirits, Margaret Jennings asked with concern, "What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"

Ethan Shaw took Naomi Kenway’s hand, his tone leaving no room for argument. "I’m taking you over there to rest."

Naomi Kenway let Ethan Shaw lead her to a nearby seat. Ian, looking very worried, reached out to feel Naomi’s forehead, then touched his own. "Mommy, do you have a fever?"

"Mommy’s fine," Naomi Kenway said, having Ian sit beside her.

"You’ve been on edge ever since you saw her. Do you need..."

"I don’t," Naomi Kenway said. "Hiding from her like this just makes it look like I’m scared of her. I’m not who I used to be. I can handle her just fine. Besides, I’ve been in a foul mood lately. I’ll just consider this her delivering herself to my doorstep for a bit of entertainment."
