Chapter 395: Chapter 397: The New Guest

Naomi Kenway sat on the bus, and before long, a wave of drowsiness washed over her. She rubbed her eyes.

"Tired?" Ethan Shaw asked. He called out to Ian Shaw, "Come over to Dad. Let Mom get some rest."

Ian Shaw moved from Naomi Kenway’s arms to sit beside Ethan Shaw, but his gaze remained on Naomi. "Ian will be very quiet. You can go to sleep, Mommy."

Naomi Kenway nodded and closed her eyes.

Ian Shaw hadn’t been sitting for long before Carina Sanders called him over to chat. A moment later, Simon Sawyer and Jared Woods came over to join them.

Carina Sanders sighed, wise beyond her years. "It’s been so long since we’ve seen Mona. I wonder how he’s doing. Do you think he misses us?"

"We haven’t seen big brother Mona in ages. Do you guys think his evil stepmom beat him to death?" Jared Woods’s voice was laced with anger.

Simon Sawyer cut him off. "Don’t talk nonsense. Mona is perfectly fine."

"Then my phone lied to me! I heard it on my phone, how could it lie to me? It made me cry so many tears for nothing. I even set up a memorial for big brother Mona in the garden! I bow to it three times every morning, noon, and night!"

Carina Sanders burst out laughing. "How can you be so gullible? You believe everything you see on a phone?"

Hearing Carina Sanders call him gullible, Jared Woods turned away in a huff. "How was I supposed to know it was fake? It’s all the phone’s fault!"

The originally somber atmosphere dissipated slightly, turning more cheerful.

"Who do you think the new kid will be? A boy or a girl?"

"I don’t know."

"I just want big brother Mona to come back..." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

As he spoke, Jared Woods actually started to cry. "I’ll never say mean things about him again..."

Carina Sanders handed him a tissue, but still said, "Don’t cry. You look really ugly when you cry."

Ian Shaw suddenly shushed them. "My mommy’s asleep," he said. "Can you be a little quieter?"

Jared Woods looked over into the distance and fell silent.

Ever since her last conversation with Leo Lennox, Naomi Kenway hadn’t had a good night’s sleep. Certain things were piling up, weighing on her heart like a great stone.

The bus swayed, and a sharp whistle jerked Naomi Kenway awake. She yawned, only then realizing she had fallen asleep leaning on Ethan Shaw’s shoulder at some point.

Rubbing her sore temples, Naomi Kenway’s voice held a trace of confusion. "How did I end up sleeping on your shoulder?"

"I don’t know," Ethan Shaw’s voice was tinged with amusement. "It just sort of happened."

Another whistle blew. The director waved his arms and shouted, "Ms. Kenway, time to get off the bus!"

"Let’s get off first." Naomi Kenway couldn’t be bothered to think about the question any longer.

Ian was nowhere to be seen in the bus; he seemed to have already gotten off. Naomi Kenway hurried forward a few steps and disembarked.

Naomi Kenway first found Ian Shaw and took his hand, only then taking in her surroundings.

She had just been glancing around casually, but the moment she saw the view before her, her breath caught in her throat.

The sky was vast and bright, the vegetation lush. A boundless prairie stretched out before them, its end out of sight. Dotted around were yurts of various decorations.

"Long time no see, everyone! Welcome to the beautiful great prairie!" A tour guide walked out slowly. He was dressed in traditional Khergit attire, his brightly colored robe exuding the rich style of the grasslands.

The guide’s appearance instantly drew cheers from the children. Jared Woods ran up to him. "Uncle Dalton, your clothes are so cool! Can I wear them for a bit? I don’t want to keep them, I just want to try them on."

The guide couldn’t help but laugh. Looking at Jared Woods’s "sly and cunning" expression, he said, "I’m afraid not. These clothes are way too big for you."

"Then can I wear the hat? I’ll just wear it for a second, then give it right back."

The guide thought for a moment and took off his hat.

The moment Jared Woods got the hat, he jumped for joy. He put it on gleefully and ran off to show his friends.

The guide watched Jared Woods run off, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Deciding not to try and get the hat back, he raised his megaphone. "After more than a month, it’s a great honor to see you all again!"

"Before we begin this trip, please hand over all prohibited items. It’s the same old rule as before. I don’t need to explain what counts as a prohibited item, do I?"

Having been through this before, all the guests quickly handed over their electronic devices and wallets.

Gene Woods took off his gold watch and reluctantly placed it in the collection box. He looked up, adjusted his tie, and gave a small smile to the staff member collecting the items.

[My God, that smile is terrifying.]

[Genuine question, why is he suddenly acting like this? Did getting into that fight on the show scramble his brains?]

[He’s even wearing hair wax. None of the other guests are dressed this formally. What’s gotten into him? Didn’t he say he couldn’t care less about being on this show?]

[Maybe all rich people are this weird.]

[Rich people are catching strays here.]

[They’re finally filming again! I was so scared this show was going to get canceled. It’s all Mr. Jennings’s and Mr. Lynch’s fault. If the show got taken off the air because of those two, I’m not kidding, I’d hate them forever!]

[They’re on the great prairie this time? The air looks so fresh, I want to go too!]

[So who is the new guest already? The production team is always like this, it’s impossible to guess. Not a single hint. Do they really have to be this secretive?]

[It can’t be easy to find a new guest. I heard the production team spent a long time negotiating with all the original guests before the show even started. And with the influence of, you know who, other celebrities are probably hesitant.]

[The production team better keep their eyes peeled. Don’t find another guest like that Mr. Jennings guy and turn this place into a total circus! My heart can’t take a second shock...]

...

"After what happened last time, we’ve made a lot of adjustments. First off, we need to welcome our new guest..."

"I’m sure you’re all very curious. I know our show has always been good at keeping secrets. Now, let’s welcome our new guest. I wonder if it’s the person you’ve all been guessing?"

The guide said with a smile.

Applause broke out around them. Naomi Kenway also raised her hands to clap, but suddenly her gaze froze, her hands stuck in mid-air.

Two figures in white entered her line of sight. Both were wearing white casual wear in a matching couple’s style.

Jeanette Kensington had her hair in a neat ponytail. Her features were elegant and refined. With a smile on her lips, she greeted everyone. "Hello, everyone. I’m Jeanette. This isn’t the first time we’ve met. It’s a great honor to have the chance to travel with all of you. I look forward to our time together!"
