Chapter 39: Chapter 40: Station 2—Tropical Rainforest

Susan Hughes had watched these younger ones grow up, so she still addressed Naomi Kenway with great affection.

The only thing that puzzled her was how much Naomi had changed. ’She had just been a willful, pretty little girl, so how did her personality transform so drastically after she got married?’

"Hello, Grandma."

Naomi Kenway greeted her.

Her well-behaved demeanor reminded Susan Hughes of how she was as a child. Susan Hughes smiled warmly. "How have you been lately?"

"Pretty good."

"That’s good." Susan Hughes nodded, then added, "It’s getting late. You two should take Ian home. I didn’t prepare anything in advance, so I won’t ask you to stay for dinner."

"Mom!" Jane Chandler said anxiously.

"Hm?" Susan Hughes looked over. "I’m getting old, and my hearing isn’t what it used to be. What did you just say?"

Jane Chandler clenched her hands. "...Nothing."

Mrs. Chandler brought Ian Shaw out, and Naomi Kenway’s family left the old residence.

Susan Hughes sat in her chair, her gaze slowly settling on Jane Chandler. "How many times have I told you? Don’t meddle in the young couple’s affairs."

"I... Naomi has always been like this. How can I stand by and let my son stay with a woman like her!"

"Oh? Ethan can accept it, but you can’t?"

Jane Chandler pressed her lips together and fell silent.

"Matters of the heart are like drinking water—only the one drinking knows if it’s hot or cold. Outsiders shouldn’t, and can’t, get involved. No matter what Nia is like, she’s the wife Ethan chose for himself. It’s their business, and how their life turns out has absolutely nothing to do with us."

Susan Hughes sighed. "If you’re really that restless, you can come have afternoon tea with me. There’s no need to pour all your energy into this. Young people have their own pursuits. We’re old now; we should be enjoying our retirement."

Jane Chandler clutched the handkerchief in her hand. "Ethan is my only son! If he doesn’t agree to a divorce and the position of the Shaw Family’s matriarch falls into Naomi’s hands, we’ll become a laughingstock!"

"I also only have one son, Kevin, and I certainly didn’t interfere when you two got married. It’s impressive you’ve planned so far ahead for the future, but your children will make their own way in life. When you’re dead, you’re just a pile of dirt—you won’t remember any of it. While you can still get around, you should enjoy life and worry less."

Susan Hughes turned to Mrs. Young beside her. "Where’s that chrysanthemum tea I brought back from Havenbrook the other day? Make some for Jane. She needs to cool off."

Ethan Shaw personally drove Naomi Kenway and Ian Shaw home. When Naomi came downstairs, she was surprised to find Ethan still sitting in the living room.

"I thought you’d have left by now."

Ethan Shaw looked up at her. "What happened today was my oversight. I’ll handle the relationship between you two better from now on."

Faced with such a sincere Ethan, Naomi was suddenly at a loss for words. "It’s... fine."

"Naomi."

Ethan Shaw stood up and picked up his suit jacket, his light-colored eyes fixed on Naomi. "The agreement you mentioned... I accept."

"You mean...?" Naomi was too stunned by the pleasant surprise to react, but Ethan’s figure had already vanished into the night.

Today was the second recording for *My Supermom*. Naomi Kenway packed her bags early in the morning, then took Ian Shaw with the production crew to the airport to begin their journey to the second location: the rainforest.

The rainforest was hot and rainy, so in addition to a first-aid kit, Naomi also packed insect repellent and an umbrella in her suitcase.

The airport was jam-packed with people. Naomi had her son sit on the suitcase so she could push him along. Fortunately, the production crew cleared a path for them; otherwise, Naomi was genuinely afraid she’d be mobbed by anti-fans.

Ruby Preston and Renee Jennings were also departing from Veridia International Airport. Naomi briefly exchanged greetings with them.

Mona didn’t look well, seemingly because she had just recovered from an illness. Noticing Naomi’s concerned gaze, Mona stiffly turned her head away.

’That’s a little strange,’ Naomi thought. She remembered Mona’s attitude toward her wasn’t like this. While they weren’t exactly close, it hadn’t reached the point of outright dislike.

Naomi couldn’t help but glance at Renee Jennings. When Renee noticed, she immediately greeted her, "Nina, how was your rest at home these past few days?"

"It was good." Naomi smiled and looked at Renee and then Mona. "You and Mona both don’t seem to be doing too well."

"Really?" Renee Jennings covered one side of her face. "Ah, Mona was worried sick when she heard we were going to the rainforest. You know how kids are. As for me... I haven’t been sleeping well lately."

It wasn’t just not well; it was terrible. Renee Jennings had spent a small fortune hiring online trolls to defend her reputation recently. After the first episode aired, Renee never expected to be targeted by haters. The incident where Mona got heatstroke alone earned her hundreds of scathing comments from netizens.

Thankfully, her team was competent, but the stress had caused Renee to lose quite a bit of hair.

Naomi nodded and continued pushing Ian Shaw forward.

The airport was incredibly noisy. As *My Supermom* was the hottest parenting reality show at the moment, many fans of the show lined the path, holding up banners to show their support.

Naomi had been trashed so thoroughly online that she’d almost never seen fans cheering for her.

"Ian! Angel Ian!! Auntie loves you!!!"

"Ian, look here! Sweetheart, look over here!"

...

Naomi stopped in her tracks and excitedly pointed in one direction for Ian Shaw. "Ian, look! There are aunties and big sisters who like you..."

Ian Shaw peeked out at her words. He looked over, his big, dark eyes blinking. "Do people really like Ian?"

"Of course!" Naomi said with a smile. "Mommy’s baby is so wonderful. You’re the type everyone loves, the type that makes flowers bloom!"

Ian Shaw blushed from the praise.

Not only that, but Naomi actually spotted a support sign for herself in the dense crowd.

’So I have fans now, too...’

After getting off the plane, the cast members boarded a minivan to continue to their destination.

There was an interview segment during the ride. A staff member next to her asked, "The first episode is over. Did you gain anything from the experience?"

Naomi said, "I gained quite a lot. Through the last trip, I feel like I got to know my son a little better. We experienced a lot of new things together, which was really interesting."

"What about you, Ian?" the staff member asked.

Ian Shaw didn’t seem as timid as he was at the beginning. "Ian likes being with Mommy. Wherever Mommy goes, Ian will go."

[Ian is so well-behaved. It makes me want to have a kid, too.]

[I think Ian has changed quite a bit. He seems a little more cheerful than at the start.]

...

After arriving at their destination, Naomi and her son got out of the minivan.

The tour guide was already waiting for them. He was dressed in the attire of an ethnic minority group and shouted enthusiastically, "Friends, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time."

"Our travel destination this time is the tropical rainforest reserve in southern Yondale. You’ll get to experience a tropical paradise without leaving the country. I’m sure you’re all as excited for this trip as I am!"
