Chapter 381: Chapter 380: I Only Want to Marry You

"We haven’t even finished the things you brought over last time..."

Aidan Dawson carefully set Nathan Lynch down and scratched his head. "Just toss out what I brought before. It’s so hot, I wouldn’t want you to get a stomachache from eating it."

"Okay." Victor Vance poured Aidan Dawson a cup of tea. "Aidan, haven’t you been busy lately? I heard you’re filming a documentary. I’m... I’m fine here. You should go take care of your own business first."

Aidan Dawson gripped the teacup, then instantly let go.

"What’s wrong? Is it too hot?" Victor Vance asked with concern.

"No, no. It’s just right."

"Aidan, what I just said... did you hear me?"

"I... I..." Aidan Dawson’s mouth opened and closed, seeming a bit lost. "Victor, I wanted to... I mean..." He lowered his head and said dejectedly, "Why do you seem so distant now? Are you angry at me for leaving without a word back then?"

"No." Victor Vance looked down and sighed. "When you suddenly went abroad all those years ago, I knew you must have had your reasons."

"Victor, I didn’t know so much had happened after I left... Regardless, I feel... really bad about it. You and Nathan just moved into this new house, and I’m honestly worried about you two."

Just as Victor Vance was about to speak, she heard Aidan Dawson say, "Victor, I bought a house in this villa complex too. From now on, we can be neighbors."

"Really? Uncle Dawson, we’re going to be neighbors!" Nathan Lynch exclaimed joyfully. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Aidan Dawson smiled and patted Nathan Lynch’s head.

But Victor Vance’s expression was a bit strange. "Aidan, why would you buy a house in a school district? Don’t tell me you’re planning ahead for your future children’s schooling?"

Aidan Dawson blushed. "N-no, that’s not it. I wasn’t thinking that far ahead. I just think this place, um... has nice scenery."

Victor Vance smiled but said nothing.

Aidan Dawson snuck a glance at her, and seeing her silence, he didn’t dare to speak either.

Aidan Dawson stayed for a little while longer before taking his leave. Victor Vance saw him out, the two of them walking one behind the other.

"Where’s Nathan?" Aidan Dawson asked, trying to start a conversation.

"Nathan’s on a video call with Ian. The two kids are having a great time chatting."

A smile appeared on Aidan Dawson’s face as well. "That’s good," he said. "Nathan is a great kid. Sometimes when I see him, I can’t help but wonder..."

He paused, his gaze shifting to her. "Were you as cute as Nathan when you were little, Victor?"

Before Victor Vance could answer, he looked down and chuckled. "I’m sure you were. Your mother once said that Nathan looks a lot like you did as a child. We met too late, so I never got to see what you were like back then. But when I look at Nathan, I just imagine you must have been just as cute..."

Victor Vance smiled. "Nathan does look like me. All my friends say so."

They soon reached the door. Aidan Dawson deliberately slowed his pace. He turned his head, smiled at Victor Vance, and said, "Victor, I’m heading out now. I have a recording session today. I’ll come see you and Nathan again tomorrow. Nathan likes osmanthus cakes, so I’ll bring some over."

The moment Aidan Dawson turned to leave, he heard a voice call out from behind him, "Aidan..."

"Huh?" Aidan Dawson turned back in pleasant surprise, only to see Victor Vance’s solemn expression, as if she had given something a lot of thought. For some reason, his heart leaped into his throat.

"Aidan, you like me, don’t you?"

"Huh?" Aidan Dawson was instantly flustered. His long-hidden feelings had been suddenly exposed, and he panicked. He felt his tongue twist into knots. "V-Victor, what are you talking about? I..."

Victor Vance smiled. Her tone was gentle but equally firm. "Aidan, don’t waste your time on me. Nothing can ever happen between us. I have no intention of remarrying, and I don’t want to hold you back. Someone as great as you will surely find a wonderful partner soon..."

At Victor Vance’s cold words, the blush on Aidan Dawson’s face quickly faded. A hint of hurt filled his eyes, and he forced a smile. "Victor, since you already know how I feel... I... it has to be you in this lifetime. I only want to marry you. Actually..." He lowered his head slightly. "After you got married back then, I followed my family’s arrangements and went on two blind dates. But... when I sat face-to-face with them, I... my mind was filled with you. I..."

"Aidan." Victor Vance stopped him from continuing. She let out a soft sigh. "If you had confessed to me ten years ago, I might have accepted." She turned her back to Aidan Dawson. "But times have changed. Ever since I married Christina Lynch... in that marriage, there was nothing worth holding onto except for Nathan. Besides, marriage isn’t just about two people’s wishes. Your parents might not approve of me. I think friendship is a more lasting relationship. If you come to terms with it one day and decide to get married and have children, I will wish you well."

"But I don’t want to..." Aidan Dawson walked in front of Victor Vance and gripped her shoulders. "If I can’t be with you, what’s the point of just going through the conventional motions! I just want to be with you, even if we don’t get married..."

"Aidan..."

Aidan Dawson let go of her. He looked down and said, "I’m leaving now, Victor. I’ll bring osmanthus cakes for Nathan tomorrow. Remember to wait for me at home. But it’s okay if you don’t. I’ll wait for you."

Without waiting for Victor Vance’s reply, Aidan Dawson quickly walked away.

Watching his retreating figure, Victor Vance sighed softly.

Naomi Kenway received an invitation from Jenna Shaw to go shopping together.

Naomi Kenway still remembered the sight of Jenna Shaw crying when she had come to see her a few days ago. She had said that Walter Ford was a bastard, that she was going to dump him—dump him far, far away—and never shed another tear for him again.

Naomi Kenway arrived at the appointed time and saw Jenna Shaw waving from a distance. Her already short hair seemed to have been cut even shorter. She was wearing a simple, casual outfit, and her movements were free and unrestrained. Her long legs, clad in jeans, were incredibly eye-catching.

"Naomi, over here!"

Naomi Kenway smiled and walked over. She noticed a few girls gathered around Jenna Shaw. After they finished their conversation, Naomi approached with a smile. "Who were those people just now?"

"They came to ask for my contact info."

Naomi Kenway nodded with a smile, not at all surprised that Jenna Shaw was popular with girls. "So, did you give it to them?"

"I did. They were very cute. I couldn’t say no."

As Naomi Kenway got closer, she noticed a tattoo high on Jenna Shaw’s shoulder. It looked like a lotus flower.

Jenna Shaw noticed Naomi Kenway’s gaze and asked, "Like it, Naomi?"

"I do. When did you get it?" Naomi Kenway said with a nod.

Seeing the constant smile on Jenna Shaw’s face, Naomi Kenway finally felt relieved.

"Just a few days ago. I’ve actually wanted to get one for a long time, but Walter Ford thought tattoos were too aggressive and didn’t like them. Now that I’ve dumped him, I don’t care what he thinks anymore."
