Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Making Dinner Together

Carina Sanders was right behind her. After a brief discussion with Margaret Jennings, she took the key to Room 1.

With only two sets of keys left, Simon Sawyer took the one for Room 3. Jared Woods was the last to go up, taking the key for Room 5 with a miserable expression.

[They agreed to let the kids choose, so why is Renee Jennings so extra? Can’t she give her kid a little freedom? She has to micromanage everything!]

[As luck would have it, Ian ended up with the best room, Room 4. Congrats, congrats!]

[There’s no such thing as "best," right? It’s like Mona said, as long as you like it, it’s the best one for you.]

[If I remember correctly, this is the first time Chelsea Raines and her son have stayed in such a rundown place. The tables have turned, huh? You never know who’s next.]

...

Once the guests had all chosen their houses, the guide called for them to hand over all electronic devices and snacks.

After they did so, the guests went upstairs to their respective rooms.

Naomi Kenway took out her key and opened the door with a CLICK.

The moment she pushed the door open, warm light streamed in from the window. A fan was running inside, so Naomi didn’t feel hot.

She first placed their luggage on a table, then took a look around. The room was lavishly decorated with a strong exotic flair. Naomi sighed in admiration as she took it all in.

This was the most luxurious house they had stayed in over the past few seasons.

They had both gotten sweaty from the scorching sun on their way there. Knowing her son was shy, Naomi took him into the private cubicle to change out of his clothes.

Ian had eaten a lot at the dining table, and his belly was round and slightly bulging. Naomi poked it and couldn’t help but laugh. "Looks like Ian’s all full. Your tummy is like a little watermelon."

Ian’s cheeks flushed slightly. He instinctively looked down at his stomach and sucked it in hard, making it instantly look much smaller.

This amused Naomi, who laughed. After helping him take a bath, she changed him into a fresh set of clothes.

Now that Ian Shaw was fresh and dry, his movements were no longer restricted. He helped Naomi unpack their suitcase and organize their things. His hands were small, yet he was unusually deft and efficient at tidying up. He was so methodical, not at all like a four-year-old child.

[Ian is so capable! He already knows how to help his mom at such a young age.]

[Judging by how practiced he is, Ian must help Naomi Kenway with chores a lot at home. He’s such a little kid, she shouldn’t make him work so hard. It’s so pitiful.]

[The person above is wrong. I think it’s great that Ian helps with chores, and Nina is great too for teaching him hands-on skills from a young age. Besides, Ian looks so happy, how is that pitiful? It’s better to develop practical skills when you’re young than to grow up into an overgrown baby.]

[He really doesn’t act like a four-year-old. He’s so smart.]

...

After they finished unpacking, it was 1:30 PM. Noticing Ian was getting sleepy, Naomi put him down for a nap.

When they woke up, it was already 3:00 PM. Naomi reached out and straightened Ian’s hair.

There was a huge television in the bedroom. Naomi tried the remote and found that it worked, but since they didn’t have a subscription, there were very few shows available to watch for free.

With nothing else to do, Naomi and Ian watched a bit of TV.

When the hour hand pointed to four, a staff member handed Naomi a task card. She took it and opened it to read:

Please proceed to the first-floor kitchen and work together to prepare this evening’s dinner.

—The "My Super Mom" Production Team

After reading it, Naomi placed the card on the table. She was in a good mood from her nap. "So we don’t have to fight for ingredients this time?"

The cameraman shook his head.

A knock sounded at the door. When Naomi opened it, she saw Ruby Preston with Simon Sawyer.

"Nicole, you must have gotten the task card too, right? Should we go downstairs and discuss it together?"

"Okay," Naomi replied. After locking her door, she followed Ruby Preston to get the other guests.

The guests gathered in the courtyard to discuss how to handle the dinner problem.

Ruby Preston said, "The good news is we don’t have to go to great lengths to fight over ingredients this time. The bad news is the production team has given us zero funds for food. The kitchen only has a few pots, so to make dinner, we’ll probably have to figure out a way to scrounge up some ingredients."

Chelsea Raines crossed her arms. "I knew it wouldn’t be that simple. We’re celebrities, for crying out loud, but since we got here, we’ve had to go from one house to the next, begging. It’s so humiliating."

Margaret Jennings frowned. "You can’t put it like that. I think this is a pretty novel experience. Celebrities have to figure out how to eat too, how are we any different from regular people? By your logic, do celebrities live on air? The locals here are warm and hospitable. I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to get some ingredients."

Ruby Preston also nodded. "Try to be more positive, not so pessimistic."

Chelsea Raines silently rolled her eyes, thinking, ’That’s easy for you to say. You’re not the ones stuck in this dump of a house.’

Renee Jennings just watched without saying a word, standing a couple of feet away from Nathan Lynch.

Margaret Jennings said, "Let’s divide up the work. First, we need to find ingredients. It’s too hot to have the kids go out, so one person should stay behind to watch them while the rest of us go look for food. What do you all think?"

Everyone thought about it and had no objections.

Renee Jennings asked, "So who should stay behind?" She cleared her throat twice and then volunteered, "I can stay, if needed."

This question put Ruby Preston in a difficult spot, as every child had their own preferences. However, the problem turned out to be easy to solve, because all the children said they wanted to stay with Naomi Kenway.

First, Jared Woods raised his hand and said he wanted Aunt Kenway to stay. The other children tacitly agreed, offering no objections.

Ruby Preston breathed a sigh of relief. This made things much easier. "Last time when we went fishing in the sea, Nicole was the one who stayed behind to look after the kids. It seems they all really like being with her."

She then asked for Naomi’s opinion. "Nicole, what do you think?"

Naomi didn’t agree right away, instead saying pointedly, "Normally, that would be fine. I’m just worried that certain people who have it out for me will think I’m bullying their child."

Chelsea Raines knew instantly that Naomi was talking about her, and her face flushed with embarrassment.

It had been so long since that incident, yet Naomi still hadn’t let it go.

Naomi suggested, "I think Chelsea Raines would be a perfect fit. After all, she suspects everyone except herself of mistreating her child."

Jared Woods’s little mind spun, and he understood what was happening.

The thought that he might not get to eat Aunt Kenway’s delicious food made him so upset that he complained to Chelsea Raines, "This is all your fault! How could you do that!"

Everyone turned to look at her. Chelsea Raines knew they were waiting for her to respond.

She lowered her head slightly, pouting. "I was too impulsive about that last time. Please don’t hold it against me. I apologize to you again."

"Oh, please. As if I would dare hold a grudge against you."
