Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Returning to the Country

Chloe Murray was her best friend. She couldn’t just stand by and watch Chloe walk step by step toward her death.

’When they were little, they had promised to be with each other for their whole lives. That promise would definitely be kept.’

"Alright, let’s stop talking about those two. Let’s go eat first. I haven’t been back in the country for so long. Any good restaurants you’d recommend?"

Naomi Kenway smiled. "I’ve already booked a private room. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!"

Chloe Murray’s eyes lit up. "You still know me best!"

Naomi Kenway was a regular at this restaurant. Besides the signature dishes, she also ordered Chloe Murray and Ian’s favorites.

A few of the dishes brought to the table were seafood. Ian, continuing to be his mother’s sweet and caring boy, put on a pair of gloves and started peeling shrimp for Naomi Kenway.

Chloe Murray, on her side, also skillfully peeled a shrimp for Naomi Kenway. "I remember you hate dealing with troublesome things like this. Here..." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Just as she extended her hand, she saw that someone had already placed shrimp on Naomi Kenway’s plate. Three shrimp, peeled cleanly and arranged neatly.

That little kid was still acting cute, calling out "Mommy" over and over.

Chloe Murray finally snapped back to reality. ’Unwittingly, Naomi now has a clingy little imp she has to take care of all the time...’

"Nina, eat the shrimp I peeled! I peeled it the best!"

Ian protested unhappily, "You’re lying! Ian peeled it the best!"

In the end, both of them looked over, asking Naomi Kenway whose shrimp she was going to eat.

"..." Naomi Kenway found it both funny and exasperating. In the end, she ate the shrimp offered by both of them.

But it seemed neither of the two was very satisfied.

"Nina, that dessert in front of you looks delicious. Let me have a bite."

Naomi Kenway nodded and, out of habit, scooped some up with a spoon and fed it to Chloe Murray.

Who would have thought that the next second, Ian would demand to be fed too.

Naomi Kenway was a bit stunned. "Ian, don’t you already know how to use chopsticks?"

"Aunt Murray is so much older than Ian, and she knows how to use chopsticks. Why does Mommy still have to feed her? Shame on Aunt Murray." Ian deployed his ultimate weapon, staring straight at Naomi Kenway with his big, watery eyes. "Ian is just a little kid. Ian’s hands are not strong enough..."

By the time Naomi Kenway came to her senses, she had already picked up her chopsticks. She found it very difficult to refuse any of Ian Shaw’s requests.

Chloe Murray put down her chopsticks, crossed her arms, and huffed.

The rest of the meal was absolute chaos.

Before they left, Chloe Murray specially presented the gift she had brought for Naomi Kenway. When it was Ian Shaw’s turn, she held the gift box up high, cleared her throat twice, and said, "How about this? If you call me ’Aunt Murray,’ I’ll give it to you. And don’t give me that little sulky face. I want to hear that sweet, cutesy voice, like the ones on TV." She then remembered something else. "Right, just like how you call ’Nina’!"

Ian just held Naomi Kenway’s hand, completely unmoved.

"Not interested at all? It’s a toy car. Your mom said you love toy cars."

"Ian has lots of toy cars!" he said, lifting his chin with a proud look on his face. "Mommy gave them all to Ian!"

Chloe Murray’s lips twitched. "But this is the newest model. It’s even studded with diamonds."

"So tacky. Ian doesn’t like it," Ian Shaw said. He still remembered how this weird auntie was always trying to steal his mommy from him.

"You cheeky little kid..." Chloe Murray sighed, but still shoved the gift into his hands. "I’ll be the bigger person. Now, say ’Thank you, Aunt Murray.’"

Naomi Kenway said with a smile, "Ian, hurry and thank Aunt Murray."

Ian hugged the toy car and, after a moment of hesitation, said, "Thank you, Aunt Murray."

Jackson Kensington had been discharged from the hospital and was now recuperating at home. He was overwhelmed with company affairs, and after Jeanette Kensington’s relentless pestering, he finally relented and agreed to let Caleb Bishop join Kenway Group in an acting capacity. However, he remained deeply distrustful of Caleb Bishop and made him sign a contract stipulating that Caleb would have to resign as soon as he had recovered.

Precisely because he knew all too well how he himself had risen to power, Jackson Kensington was extremely wary of Caleb Bishop. He even had surveillance cameras installed in the office to monitor Caleb’s every move.

After a few days, not only had Caleb Bishop made no suspicious moves, but he had even cleaned up a few messes for him.

Jackson Kensington was overjoyed, but a sliver of worry still lingered in his heart.

The happiest person of all was Jeanette Kensington. The delight in her eyes was unconcealable. "See, Dad? I knew Caleb could do an excellent job."

Lorraine Warren also smiled gently from the side. "Caleb is a promising young man, and he treats our Jan so well. He’s a rare find, truly a match made in heaven!"

Hearing this, Jeanette Kensington gave a bashful smile. "Mom..."

"This Caleb Bishop really is something else," Jackson Kensington said, his brow furrowing again. "Has he never worked at any other company? His current abilities don’t seem like those of a novice. University theory can’t support the methods he’s using now. He always said he was involved in the arts... I’m finding that hard to believe."

"Dad, what are you talking about? Why would Caleb lie to us? He’s very diligent; he worked hard in college. Besides, doesn’t every industry have people with a bit more natural talent? He’s your son-in-law! You can’t always be so suspicious of him!"

"Didn’t he study art? Why the sudden interest in finance and corporate management?" Jackson Kensington’s gaze was dark. "I just feel his motives aren’t pure."

"Well..." Jeanette Kensington frowned slightly, also seeming unable to figure it out. ’Caleb Bishop has never shown any particular liking for finance, so why is he studying and researching it so desperately?’

"Dad, you’re getting sidetracked again. It’s not that complicated. I’ve been with Caleb for so many years. Is there anyone who knows him better than I do? The way I see it, you should give Caleb an official position. He’s already proven his capabilities, hasn’t he?"

But Jackson Kensington still shook his head. "He’s too ambitious. I don’t dare to use him... unless he becomes one of the family."

"He’s the one who collected on many of the company’s outstanding debts. You have to understand, those were tough nuts to crack—they’d been dragging on for years. Yet Caleb Bishop got the money back. And it wasn’t just with his eloquence; he used the most vicious methods."

"I also remember you telling me that back in college, he would cut his own arm with a knife to force himself to study."

Jackson Kensington’s expression was complicated. "People like that are the most terrifying. He’s ruthless with himself and with others. It’s hard to imagine what he might do in the future. I just feel that he’s a very dangerous person..."

Jeanette Kensington felt a chill run down her spine. "Dad, that’s baseless nonsense!"

Lorraine Warren also said worriedly, "Jan, what if it’s really like your father says..."

"Impossible!"

Jackson Kensington sighed. "Jan, I think you should break up with him. Having someone like that around is like planting a time bomb."
