The Ultimate Chance-Chapter 68
Saturday.
Avery woke up to an excited Angel looking through her closet. She sat up with a smile. "Good morning, baby."
He left the closet and ran over to climb onto the bed, and kissed her cheek.
"Are you looking for something for me to wear?" She asked, and he nodded. He was already all dressed up in an adorable blue apron, and a tiger-eared hoodie. She pinched his tiger ears, her heart melting. "You look so cute!"
He hugged her with a smile and rolled off the bed to resume finding her the perfect outfit. She took the chance to take a shower and when she returned, Angel had placed a fluffy, blue skirt on her bed. The tiger-eared hoodie next to it made her wonder since when she owned such clothes. Did he throw them in the cart when they went shopping before?
Wearing mother-son outfits was her favorite thing about weekends out. She dressed up and slid into the strappy heels Angel had chosen just as she heard an excited call of ’papa!’ from downstairs. She glanced at herself in the mirror and decided to let her hair hair down and pull the tiger-eared hood over her head.
She hurried down the stairs just in time to see Damon. He was wearing an outfit nearly identical to Angel’s and her first reaction was to burst into laughter and take out her phone to snap pictures of him.
"RA Vaille employees should see this." She laughed.
"So should Vaillant Telecommunications employees. You look like a cute little tigress." He took out his phone to take a picture of her.
His words had just reminded her of what they were wearing and she was baffled. A family outfit? Whose idea was this?
She looked down at herself and was considering changing into something else when Angel had his father carry him so he would touch her tiger ears. She couldn’t bear to take it off when he loved it so much.
It was obvious this was something they had planned and since it was too late to get changed, she figured she might as well roll with it. So after they had their breakfast, a tiger-eared family left for the amusement park.
Angel was too excited to sit still. When they arrived, Damon carried him on his shoulder and held Avery’s hand. She was baffled by his move. "Damon, I can walk on my own."
"Angel is scared we might lose you in the crowd." He gave an excuse. It was partially true and besides, he just wanted to hold her hand. He grasped it tightly and when her attempts to pull it away failed, she gave up.
He smiled down at her. She didn’t mind being held by him, or she would have fought to the death to separate their hands.
Mabella arrived soon after they did and managed to catch up as they bought tickets for the carousel.
"Am I late for the fun?" She asked. She was wearing a similar costume to theirs, but her skirt was green and she had a cat-eared hood.
"Where did you guys even get these outfits?" Avery couldn’t help asking.
"I have no damn idea." She laughed to Avery, who had stepped away from Damon. "I found them on my bed with an invitation to come here. Does sound like something Angel would ask for."
Avery smiled. "I feel like a kid."
"Hey, are you and my brother together?" Asked Mabella. "I saw you holding hands earlier.
"No, we’re not." She cleared her throat. How was she supposed to explain to a man’s sister than she and her brother had only slept together several times and it didn’t mean much?
Though if she were being honest, it meant a lot. She was about to ask Mabella what that meant when she noticed the latter pointing at something behind her.
She turned and saw a young woman slotted right next to Damon, trying to strike a conversation with Angel. The boy was now in his father’s arms, and although he didn’t say a word to the brunette, she giggled and offered him a lollipop.
"Fucking..." she raged. She bought a lollipop and slotted herself to Damon’s side to offer it to Angel.
"Baby, it’s rainbow-colored just like you love it."
Angel excitedly accepted it, so she shifted her focus to the brunette.
"Do I know you?"
"Oh, not yet. Are you..."
"If I don’t know you, I don’t understand what business you have offering snacks and lollies to my son." She had a smile on her face but it wasn’t anything friendly.
"And what the fuck is wrong with you?" She lowered her voice to whisper to Damon. "How could you let a stranger offer food to our son? Is this how you take care of him?"
"Actually, it’s from that little girl." Damon pointed his chin at a little about Angel’s age, holding lollipops in one hand and a man’s hand–probably her father–in another. "She wanted to play with ’the cute boy’ but she was too shy to say it herself."
Avery was relieved but only slightly. "My son is five." Why was he making it sound so odd?
"As I was saying, Mrs. D’Aboville, the kids can play together if they want to. Besides, my husband and I have always wanted to collaborate with RA Vaille."
"Husband." She was embarrassed. She didn’t know what had come over her.
Knowing that she would make a fool out of herself if she said anything else, she took Angel’s hand. "Baby, do you want to play with the little girl?"
When he nodded, Damon put him down and he toddled over to the shy little girl.
He offered her one of his chocolate candies and kissed her cheek, making the mothers’ heart melt. Within a few minutes and what looked like a silent agreement, the kids decided to go to the carousel ride together.
"He’s so cute! Like a little gentleman." The brunette patted her chest.
Meanwhile, Avery held onto Damon’s arm. "Our son finally made a friend."
"Am I still needed here?" Asked Mabella, who had watched the whole heartwarming scene.
"Yes you are. In a bit, I’ll need you to take care of Angel." Damon answered before Avery told her she could go home. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Angel went on most rides and they watched him, and once in a while they would go with him. Soon he wanted to try out the scary rides as well. He tapped at Avery and pointed at the roller coaster, at which she laughed. "Are you sure about that? It’s quite high and scarier."
He pointed at the haunted house.
"That’s even scarier."
In response, he tapped Damon’s arm and pointed at the haunted house.
He rarely insisted on anything so they knew he really wanted to go to the haunted house.
Avery’s legs trembled at the mere thought of it.
"If you want to go so badly, you can go." He relented.
"Are you crazy? It’s a haunted house!" She whisper-yelled.
"And he wants to go despite knowing that." He signalled to kids who had left the haunted house screaming and crying in terror.
She frowned. "He wants to go despite knowing it shouldn’t be anything fun for the other kids. Should I be concerned?"
"He’s just curious. It will be okay." He went in line to get the tickets.
"At least it will be for one of us." She mumbled. "Baby, if you feel scared, hold on to daddy."
He frowned as if she was being odd. What could be so scary about a haunted house?
She braced herself and got in with them, already shivering in fear. The lights went off and she held back a scream. This time when Damon held her hand, it was a gift from heaven.
"Why did you come with us if you’re so scared?" He wondered.
Was he kidding? It was the haunted house. There was no way she was letting her son experience it on his own.
But she soon realized she was worried over nothing. Angel was having a blast while she, scared to the bone, was screaming her lungs out.
By the time they managed to find their way and stumble out of the house, her legs were ready to give way.
She freaked out and screamed when a hand landed on her shoulder. She laughed in relief to see it was Damon. "I thought it was...the zombies."
"You do know those are just the amusement park employees, right?"
She nodded frantically. "They looked so real... the ghosts..." Angel’s hand landed on hers and when he patted her soothingly, she was caught between tears and laughter. "Great. I’m such a mess that my son has to calm me down."
"I know a way to make you feel better." He offered.
Almost as if they had discussed this, Mabella appeared with a cotton candy huge enough to completely hide her face in one hand, and carrying a plush tiger in another.
"Wanna claw some toys, Angel?" She asked enticingly.
He jumped into her arms to take the fluffy toy, which he gave to his mother. Without another word, he left with Mabella.
"What just happened?" She blinked in confusion.
"It’s our time to shine." He took her hand and led her to the part she loved the most about amusement parks—the ferris wheel.
In the past, she would come with Gabriel when she was younger and with Angel in recent years, but she had never gone with him.
It felt magical when they entered their cart, and he didn’t waste a second before pulling her in for a kiss.
