The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 64: Serena Sawyer
The rankings on the screen were crystal clear, Maya was in the tenth position, while she herself... was actually thirty-first...
Not only could she not attend the annual meeting she had been dreaming of, but she also made a big fool of herself in front of Maya.
The words that Maya had said naturally became ironic, and Kiki wished she could find a hole to crawl into. In fact, she never really thought she could rank higher than Maya, after all, Maya had been very active on trending searches lately. However, Maya’s infamous reputation was so loud, with reviews being downright terrible, Kiki always thought she could luckily outdo her.
As a newcomer who just entered the circle, securing the thirty-first position was undoubtedly eye-catching, but with the comparison to Maya ahead, Kiki just felt utterly ashamed.
"Not bad, Maya, tenth place, that’s a good result!" Ryan Spencer’s voice thundered in her ears.
Maya’s words got stuck in her mouth, and she frowned and asked Ryan, "What did you just say?"
According to the storyline, she should have been sixty-seventh. The plot already clearly written by the author, how could there be such a deviation, and such a big one at that?
Ryan had been staring at the screen, feeling both relieved and excited when he saw the rankings. He laughed at her, "What, too happy to think straight?"
Maya cursed, then looked up at the big screen.
Kiki’s face was as pale as a ghost, and those who had been gathered around her actually ran over to Maya’s side to flatter her.
She gritted her teeth, never having felt a moment as unbearable as now. Finally, she turned her head fiercely and ran out of the hall, ignoring the calls from people behind her.
Maya frowned tightly.
She was tenth, Kiki thirty-first, but Madeline Underwood had actually fallen to the sixtieth position...
What on earth was going on? The storyline clearly stated that she should be sixty-seventh, Kiki thirtieth, and Madeline thirteenth. Kiki and Madeline, the pair of best friends, directly suppressing her.
But now, what was this new development?
This wasn’t even the scariest part. Maya discovered that the plot’s excitement had actually risen another notch. How could the value increase when the heroine Kiki was being suppressed? Previously overlooked issues resurfaced at this moment.
Maya immediately contacted headquarters to ask what the heck was going on? Had the data crashed?
Headquarters, which had sent Maya on this mission, was from a higher civilization planet with extremely advanced technology, enabling communication without the need for a third-party tool.
Headquarters immediately responded with a few cold lines of text:
After testing, there are no abnormal fluctuations in the data, and there is no risk of collapse in the mission world. Everything is currently normal. Additionally, the plot’s level of excitement is increasing rapidly, please continue to perform well, we look forward to you completing the mission soon!
Seeing these lines, Maya was eerily silent for a few seconds.
Ryan thought she was so happy she couldn’t speak. Clearly, although Maya is a bit lazy and not very articulate, she still cares deeply about her rank, which made him unusually pleased.
"Maya, you’re finally getting the hang of it. If you keep progressing at this rate, you’ll definitely become a big hit! I always knew you were extraordinary, you may usually be a little mischievous, but at least now you’re finally showing promise!" Ryan’s voice softened as he looked at Maya with satisfaction.
Maya hated unpredictable things. Everything happening now was indeed beyond her expectations, and she couldn’t even find a reasonable explanation.
The best approach was to hold off before figuring everything out and continue as she had planned before. After all, the increase in the plot’s excitement indicates that her approach should be fine. More complex explorations should be studied and analyzed slowly...
Maya’s mind was racing, quickly settling on the best method: to stick to her original plan before understanding the situation.
*
Maya left the house wearing a down jacket, a bone-piercing cold wind blowing, and she wrapped a scarf around herself.
She had just eaten, and now it was a good time for a walk to digest. This was the winding path of a villa area, inaccessible to cars, intended for walking. Vibrant and fragrant flowers grew on both sides of the road, hiding playfully among the green grass. Blossoming beautifully in the dead of winter, it must have cost a fortune.
Maya was a straightforward person, not one for leisure or highbrow interests. She only thought the flowers were quite pretty, but if asked about the species or to comment on them, she wouldn’t be able to say a word.
The chilly wind kept blowing, and Maya regretted it the moment she went downstairs, but she was also tired of wandering around inside the villa, so she decided to come out for a look.
Suddenly, a ball of fluff rolled over from a distance, getting closer and closer, and only when she looked closely did she realize it wasn’t a ball at all, but a chubby Pomeranian.
The little guy was just a small bundle, its fur puffed up, and one could imagine how fluffy and soft it would feel to touch. Its whole body was snow white, like a round ball of snow, with its tongue sticking out and its round eyes bright and shiny.
Maya thought it was quite cute, but that was about it. She’d never had cats or dogs, nor was she particularly fond of fur. So, she just stepped aside to pass the little one and continued walking.
But unexpectedly, the little guy was relentless, circling around and then running towards her like a bouncing snowball.
"Why are you still following me?"
The Pomeranian continued to pant with its tongue out, its eyes sparkling, its steps light and quick.
For a moment, Maya didn’t know what to do, because no matter where she went, the little guy followed her.
"Do you like me that much?" she asked again, not caring whether it understood or not.
Looking at its round and stout body, Maya suddenly felt a bit fond of it.
Sudden and hurried footsteps sounded, and Maya turned her head to look. She didn’t expect it to be Serena Sawyer.
Serena rushed over and grabbed the Pomeranian’s leash, finally sighing in relief.
Serena seemed surprised to see her, "Maya?"
Maya nodded, "What a coincidence, is this little guy yours?" Maya nodded her chin, pointing at the little one’s position.
Serena smiled, "Its name is Lazy. It’s usually lively and active. I just made a phone call and it slipped away. I didn’t expect Lazy seems to like you quite a bit, wasn’t it circling around you just now?"
Serena wore a camel-colored trench coat, her silky hair falling to her waist. Compared to the first time they met, she exuded a more serene gentleness.
"Lazy, huh?" Maya laughed, "It’s really cute!"
Lazy, who was lying at Serena’s feet, ran over with its short legs. Maya squatted down and gently stroked its fluffy head, feeling a wonderful sensation.
