The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 146: Non-mainstream Fashion
Bella Sanford seemed to realize her question wasn’t quite appropriate and laughed it off, changing the topic: "Really? I’ve never seen such an amusing dance. It looks like Maya Monroe has put in a lot of effort rehearsing!"
After saying that, Bella’s cheeks felt a bit warm.
"Amusing" was an understatement—she had never seen a performer so daring on stage; it was far from ordinary boldness.
Maya Monroe wasn’t modest at all; she nodded slightly, accepting the compliment.
It was rare for Maya to dress so meticulously; these outfits were styled by the show’s stylists and were much more striking compared to her usual laid-back appearance.
But truly, good-looking clothes are a bonus, and a good-looking person would look great even in a burlap sack.
Kiki Monroe had James Wallace on her left and Alisa Shelby on her right. She was quite dissatisfied with the seating arrangement. Although she was technically in the middle, why on earth was she placed next to Alisa Shelby?
Everyone knew Alisa loved to make a fuss over appearances, and Kiki knew she couldn’t quite compete with Alisa in that regard. After all, they were on different paths—Alisa started as a singer and frequently boasted about her looks. If she got the chance, she’d definitely try to put Kiki down.
Kiki shuffled a bit towards James Wallace.
James noticed and looked over at her.
Kiki remembered him; they had worked together before, and he seemed to like her.
She offered a gentle smile, like a lotus about to bloom.
But James didn’t respond as warmly as before. He glanced at her for two seconds, his expression a bit complicated, then turned away.
Kiki’s smile froze; she didn’t know what was going on with him.
However, Maya Monroe was on the other side of Alisa, who wanted the lead role in "Mirror." As director and planner, Yvonne Hall had already shown her approval of Maya. In a way, Maya was a bigger threat to Alisa, who would probably target Maya given the chance.
The thought of Maya being scorned and mocked oddly filled Kiki with a strange sense of delight.
She glanced quietly towards Maya, seeing her holding the microphone nonchalantly, her slightly curled hair resting on her delicate, slender shoulders and a silver necklace glittering at her collarbone.
Because she didn’t like wearing dresses, she always wore jeans, which highlighted her slim, beautiful figure. Her simple outfit did nothing to hide her stunning beauty. Standing next to Alisa, dressed to the nines, Maya still outshone her completely.
Kiki withdrew her gaze, quietly clenching her fist.
The microphone passed from Maya to Alisa.
Brian Bennett smiled warmly: "Alisa has been on our show several times, and I must say, you look even more beautiful than before."
Hearing Brian’s compliment, the fans in the audience cheered excitedly.
Alisa held the microphone with both hands, her exquisite nude makeup hiding any flaws on her face. Her eyes sparkled with liveliness: "I’m Alisa, long time no see."
Her voice, slightly shy, strangely suited her aura—ethereal and inspiring a strong urge to protect her.
After everyone had introduced themselves, Maya felt half her leg going numb. She stretched it out and knocked on her slightly sore leg, completely ignoring the cameras.
When she turned her head slightly, her pale neck was revealed, lazily seductive and alluring.
Bella raised the microphone, listening to the cheers from the audience: "Next, all our guests will be divided into red and yellow teams to complete the upcoming games. The winner of each round will earn points, while the losing team will face punishment."
As she spoke, a few staff members wheeled in racks of clothes, all bizarre and accompanied by towering explosion wigs—like a blast from the past of non-mainstream fashion.
Usually, before filming, the show would provide the guests with a script and relevant information, but "Joy Without Limits" was an exception, claiming to want the guests’ most genuine reactions.
James frowned deeply, staring at the sequined outfits, tight pants, and bean shoes, and what seemed like bright red and green lipstick, all far beyond his acceptance.
Still, when he spoke, he did so with his usual charming grin, his tiger teeth peeking through, melting the hearts of his mom-fans in seconds: "Bella, dear, the punishment isn’t to wear these clothes, is it? They seem a bit non-mainstream..."
Although Alisa kept her expression neutral, internally she was in turmoil.
She cared about her image and would never wear those hideously non-mainstream clothes. She even began to question whether coming here was the right decision.
Bella chuckled: "Yes, the punishment for losing is to don these outfits and have matching makeovers..."
The other guests looked various shades of displeased, none happy.
Maya continued to stand there nonchalantly, barely paying any attention to the host’s speech.
She seemed to have the attitude of, let them do their thing while she does hers, no interference, and all perfectly understood.
Leo Lancaster turned slightly towards Maya. He wasn’t incredulous but rather asked her with interest: "Are you scared? Of wearing those hideous clothes, are you scared?"
Maya glanced at him, roughly piecing together what Bella had just said.
"It’s just a change of clothes, what’s there to be scared of?"
Her tone was light, completely unconcerned.
Probably because her demeanor was a complete contrast to the other guests, the camera crew gave her a close-up.
Leo smirked, showing a hint of amusement.
"After you’ve got the makeover, you’ll need to work together to complete a dance. Yes, as you guessed, it’s a very goofy dance."
Maya’s smile froze instantly, the lazy grin vanished, switching shockingly fast.
"We have to dance too?"
She said loudly, not trying to hide her dismay.
Bella glanced at her: "Yes."
The curve of Maya’s lips disappeared, looking quite unhappy.
The opening dance had nearly exhausted her, and now a punishment dance as well?!
Leo whispered to her: "Don’t worry, I won’t let you lose."
Maya looked up at him: "You’re so sure that we’ll be on the same team?"
She vaguely remembered Bella mentioning team divisions earlier.
Leo smiled but didn’t say more.
Although Leo said that, Maya didn’t have much faith in him, because Leo wasn’t a regular on variety shows and thus lacked experience.
