Chapter 78: Ch 78: Back Home at Last- Part 1

"How was your vacation, Kyle? Did you have fun? Ah, you should unpack now. I have some gifts for you and Theo. So unpack and come down for lunch."

Emma told me as Theo’s arms finally fell around me. But the alpha did not move too far away from me.

I felt Theo’s arms brushing up against me as I moved around and headed toward Emma to hug her as well.

Ben was next but he just raised his hand and patted my back.

"It will be better if we keep some distance, kid. Otherwise, I am afraid that someone would tear me to pieces."

The alpha told me and I looked behind me to see where he was looking. But all I saw was Theo’s smiling face looking back at me with a reassuring smile.

However, I decided not to push things too much and allowed Ben to be in his comfort zone.

"I will go and unpack now."

I told them all as I headed toward my room. I took out all my stuff before I took out Kuro’s bottle. I still had no idea what to do with him.

"Hey human, can you let me out? I promise I will not cause you any more trouble. Being in here is starting to feel suffocating now."

Kuro told me but I still did not trust him. But it was also true that Kuro had helped me out a lot.

So, despite my instincts warning me not to, I opened the vial for Kuro to come out.

The black mass stretched around before it condensed and formed into a cat. Suddenly, he looked like a beautiful black cat with shiny fur.

"You should put a collar on me and a tracker if you don’t trust where I am and what I am doing. I promise you I am only here to protect you...for now. Don’t ask me why though."

Kuro told me and the weird part was, I believed him. He had risked his life in the dungeon along with me and Lynn.

So I opened the inventory and bought a collar and a tracker.

[Items bought: Familiar’s collar. Grade S]

It cost me a lot of resources as it was done through a discreet channel, but I did not lack resources. Unlike money, they were in my inventory for a long time and could only be transferred when I wanted it to transfer.

’Now that I recall, the association wanted me to transfer all my resources to them before I entered the final dungeon. Tsk, those rats tried to take so much advantage of me back then.’

Thankfully, Eric and the other hunters stood by me and we all refused in the end. Not that it mattered much because the others were dead...to never return by my side.

"Hey human, are you going to put that collar on me? Or, am I free to leave now?"

Kuro asked and I snapped out of my daze before I locked the collar around his neck. The collar melded against the skin and I knew Kuro would not be able to take it off, even if he changed forms.

"Tsk, how irritating. But for your sake, I shall wear this collar."

Kuro told me before he jumped toward the window. I wanted to ask him where he was going but I did not need to because he told me anyway.

"Don’t worry, human. I will find a way to return to your side in no time. Just you wait and see."

Kuro told me as he exited the house and I felt a spark of fear that I would never see him again.

He was gone the very next second and I lost my chance to be able to stop him. So I unpacked and went down for lunch.

Emma had cooked up a lot and we ate in almost silence before the championship was brought up.

"You know, it was a good thing you both did not come to see the hunter’s championship this year. It was so bullshit. The semi-finals had to be stopped mid-way and finals didn’t even happen. And then, the association just chose a winner they wanted causing a massive backlash and Lynn also came out and declared Ace as fake? What a crazy ride."

I controlled my expression to act surprised to hear it all.

"Oh really-! I was not active on social media so I had no idea what happened."

I told the pair and I was surprised at how genuine my voice sounded at the moment. Maybe I did have talent in acting.

But while I was pretending to be ignorant, there was someone who seemed truly ignorant.

"Huh-! I feel so lost. What happened? No, I think it’s better if I don’t know. I don’t want to get even more confused about things."

Theo told us all and I felt sorry for him...after I felt irritated at the fact that he chose to look at me and then look away within seconds.

He was acting off, either getting too close to me, or pretending he could not stand me. Not that I got any time to confront him about it because Emma dragged us all to clean the cafe.

Once that was done, I helped Emma take the trash out.

"Finally, we are done. We can restart the cafe tomorrow-"

Emma told me and I sensed Kuro’s presence. The next thing I knew, there was a cat (Kuro) rubbing against me and giving Emma pitiful glances.

I noticed Emma’s eyes softening as she took in Kuro’s appearance and Kuro used that opportunity to rub against her as well.

"Aww, aren’t you cute? Come here."

Emma petted Kuro and he pretended to lean into her touch. It made Emma softer on him and she picked him up.

"Kyle, do you have any allergies to cats? I think I am going to adopt this one."

That decision came out of nowhere and I felt surprised. Normally, people needed more time to decide these things, right?

But Emma already looked smitten and I doubted there was anything I or others could say to change her mind regarding this.

"I am not allergic but I am not sure about Theo."

I told Emma and she nodded before she picked up Kuro and took him inside. By the time I came back, Emma already had Kuro settled in and brought out food for him to eat.

Kuro ate before he walked over to me and rubbed against me. Theo’s glare caused him to run away and leave me alone.

"I don’t like that cat. It is trying to take you away from me. Kyle, don’t pay too much attention to that cat, alright? You cannot allow it to seduce you."

Theo told me and he sounded completely serious when he spoke.

I had to hold back my laughter as I saw his expression.

"Don’t worry, Theo. I am not into cats. I am more of a...dog...kind of person."

I told him as I looked at him. Theo truly reminded me of a cute puppy. Unfortunately, he did not look happy to hear that either.

"Nooo...you can’t leave me for a dog either. Kyle...."

He whined and I just nodded.

’See, he’s truly a dog after all.’
