"Everyone, don’t let your guard down. I will enter the alley first and you all can follow me after I signal that it’s safe to do so."

Rhiner got out of the car and immediately commanded the people.

Technically, he was not the highest-ranking hunter at the site. That title belonged to Kesha, the current rank 10 hunter. She was a beta and the highest-ranked beta at that.

She was a well-respected public figure and one of the few S-ranked hunters.

Compared to Rhiner, who was ranked 25, Kesha was much more powerful and deserving to take the lead.

However, there was just one problem with all this, and that was Kesha’s own will.

"Kesha, do you have a problem with me taking the lead? Do you want to enter the area first to check?"

Rhiner asked the beta, but Kesha pretended she did not hear him. Her face was swollen in a pout, and it was all because she had been sent here in the middle of her sleep.

"You go ahead and check the area out. I am going back to sleep. This all is not worth my notice."

The female closed her eyes and stopped paying attention.

Everyone shook their heads at her behavior, but no one was surprised. After all, this happened far too often and those in the Luminous guild had adapted to her whims.

The reason she did not get fired or let go of was because her abilities were too precious. She was an S-rank, and just being in the Luminous guild boosted its prestige.

’I feel sorry for the PR team that has to overwork in order to keep Kesha’s image as a positive one. Then again, her fans are also stupid to fall for her façade when the truth is right in front of their faces.’

Not that the other hunters were any different.

"Alright, I will head in now. Keep your mind sharp."

Rhiner told the others before he slowly made his way toward the center of the alley where he could smell the rotten stench coming from.

But his instincts picked up on him not being alone there before he shined his light on the center and his eyes met Lynn’s amber ones.

"What are you doing here? Are you even authorized to be here? The guild did not tell me anything about it."

Rhiner frowned as he looked at Lynn, and the ranked #1 just rolled his eyes.

"The guild likely did not tell you anything about it because they do not know I am here either. I came here in my free time to investigate what happened."

Lynn’s words were clear, but they might as well have been gibberish when they reached Rhiner’s ears.

"You decided to... investigate... a crime scene... in your free time...? Hey, are you sure you are alright? Maybe you need a vacation more than anyone else. You are even working in your free time because you are too conditioned to do so."

Rhiner sounded half concerned and half agitated to hear these words. But Lynn did not react to him.

Instead, he kneeled in front of the dead bodies and tried to use his skill. But the result was the same as before—he found nothing.

"Boss-! Can we come in now? Give us an indication that you are fine there..."

Someone from Rhiner’s current team asked, and he turned to the alley opening to answer them.

"You can come in here now. Hunter Lynn is here to investigate as well. So we don’t need to worry too much about things. Just be careful not to startle us."

Rhiner warned his people. But instead of hearing careful footsteps heading toward the center, he heard loud and unclear ones.

He could instantly tell that these footsteps did not belong to his people, but to a certain lazy hunter who was not too keen on helping them out.

But as soon as she had heard that Hunter Lynn was here, she seemed to have changed her mind about what she wanted to do and what her role was.

"Hunter Lynn, you are here as well? What a coincidence... so, what are you doing here? Are you here to help us out with the investigation?"

It was a well-known fact in the Luminous guild that Kesha liked Lynn. Well, most people liked Lynn, but Kesha had a crush on him.

But because she was a beta, the alpha did not pay much attention to her.

’Not that Kesha did not try. She could not have been more obvious than she is being right now. However, it does not seem like Lynn is interested in her.’

The alpha ignoring her was also clear in his intent—that he did not see her in more than a collegiate way.

"I am done investigating here. You are free to check this place out, but I doubt you would find anything more than I did. But you are free to try."

It sounded like a challenge to Rhiner to do better than Lynn, but Rhiner did not allow the provocation to get to him.

"I will try my best to find whatever evidence that has been left behind by you, so don’t worry."

This was another declaration of war from Rhiner’s side. Not that it mattered much to the number #1 hunter.

He just scoffed before he left.

"Hey, have you gone mad? Why would you say such words to Lynn? Can’t you tell he’s way above our league? What if he takes offense to your words?"

Kesha asked, now panicking. But Rhiner did not care much for it.

He never expected to be friends with Lynn in the first place, so it did not matter if Lynn was at odds with him or not.

"Look, if you are so concerned with Lynn and his reaction, why don’t you go with him and find out what he thinks? Meanwhile, my team and I will stay here to take care of the site."

Rhiner told Kesha since it already looked like she wanted to leave.

She just bit her lip before she followed after Lynn.

"B-Boss, are you sure we can let Kesha leave like this? She is a top-ranked hunter... can we afford to enrage her like that? What if she makes a complaint about us on social media? With her following..."

The other members of the team looked worried, and for good reason.

After all, a high-ranked hunter like Kesha was much more famous compared to them. But Rhiner was not as worried as he should be, and the reason behind it was simple.

"The management does not like Kesha. They would try to stop her if she threatens to do anything to us. So we don’t have to worry about anything."

He assured his teammates, and they looked relieved to hear this.

Unlike Rhiner, they all were low-ranked and had been assigned to him to look after. So he felt responsible for them.

"Do a quick check of this place and tell me if you find anything out. Do not hesitate to approach me if you find even the smallest evidence."

Rhiner told the team and they immediately got to work.
