Chapter 24: Ch 24: Taking in a Stray - Part 4

’Huh—! Am I not alone?’

That was the first conscious thought I could form as my instincts warned me about the eyes looking at me in the hallway.

I wanted to check it out, but my body’s needs won over my curiosity and I decided to head to the bathroom.

Thankfully, those eyes did not follow me to the washroom and I could relieve myself in silence and serenity. But they came back once I walked toward the kitchen and looked intensely when I went back.

I closed my bedroom door to hopefully get rid of the presence and I was finally successful.

Once again, my eyes closed and I relaxed my body. I was out within seconds, totally unaware of the presence that had snuck beside me and decided to share the bed with me.

When my consciousness slowly came back during morning hours, I felt a little startled by the sudden weight on top of my waist.

My mind was considerably sharper compared to last night and the first thing I noticed were the familiar scents as well as Theo’s alpha pheromones.

They helped my body relax and I opened my eyes, only to see a muscular arm draped all over me.

There was also a body in front of me and I looked at the connected face, only to see Theo’s beautiful face relaxed as he slept beside me.

’It feels so peaceful... wait—! That’s not right—! WHAT THE HELL—!’

My instincts and common sense both kicked in at the same time and I pushed Theo off the bed in self-defense before standing up and creating distance between myself and the other alpha.

"Ouch—!"

Theo complained as he sat back up. The fall had woken him and he massaged the area that collided with the floor.

"Why are you in my bed—! More importantly—! How did you get in here? Did I not lock my door last night?"

I did not remember whether I closed my door or not last night, and my brain still refused to function at full capacity. Shit—! Don’t tell me my suppressants are showing side effects. Ugh, I don’t want to make a doctor’s appointment.

I complained in my mind as I walked toward Theo to help him up.

The action was done unconsciously and before I realized what I did, Theo was gripping my arm and giving me a look that made it seem like I hung the moon and stars for him.

"Your door was open, so I decided to walk in here. And then I saw you sleeping, all calm and inviting, and I could not help it. Are you angry with me? Please don’t be."

The alpha in front of me should not be classified as cute. He was huge and mature in body and he also looked intimidating enough at times.

But right now, with him gripping my arm and pulling it against his chest and him looking at me with his huge, watery eyes, I could not help but feel like he was a giant puppy begging for forgiveness.

And while I was not usually someone who liked cute stuff, I did feel weak in front of something I liked.

Sigh

"Fine, I understand. I will allow you to get away this time, but make sure not to do anything similar next time, alright. I am quite lenient about it but some other people might not be."

I reminded the alpha, but Theo looked confused.

"Why would I ever do this with someone else? You are the only one for me. Are you going to throw me away?"

Theo asked in a small but begging voice that made me feel bad for him. There was a sudden urge inside me to assure him that I won’t throw him away.

But I needed to be logical here. Theo was only behaving this way because of his amnesia. Once he recalled who he is and where he needs to go, everything would be fine. There is no need to get any more involved than this.

I made this decision before I pushed Theo’s face away from my arm.

"For now, how about we head out to breakfast. Go back to your room and take a shower. Then, meet me down in the dining room afterwards."

I instructed and Theo nodded before he left.

I quickly changed as well and headed out. But as soon as I did that, I noticed a small crowd with cameras standing in the shop.

They noticed me as well, and one of them yelled.

"Hurry—! There he is. Quick, grab him for an interview. We need to get the exclusive story about what happened in the B-class dungeon and why Lynn was spotted here during late hours."

A reporter came rushing toward me and I froze, wondering what to do.

’Should I go back—! Or make a run for it. Or even—’

Before my mind could make a decision, a hand grabbed me from behind and pulled me back into the employee corridor.

I looked up with an almost terrified expression, only to see Ben’s face.

"Just what is—"

"Someone uploaded a picture of Lynn being here last night and it went viral. Then, some other people released the news of you having been involved in the recent B-class dungeon incident and things got wild."

Ben gave me the short notice of what happened and I wanted to groan in annoyance.

Seeing my expression, Ben gave me a reassuring smile.

"Don’t worry. We are used to such things, especially since we operate opposite Luminous Guild. Let Emma take care of this mess. You should come and have breakfast."

Ben led me to the dining room where Emma was already yelling at the phone.

I decided not to pay attention and focused on the food. Theo came down quickly as well and sat beside me to eat.

Once breakfast was done, Emma sighed in an annoyed manner.

"Tsk, these reporters are done for, and that did not take nearly as long as I thought it would. Still, get ready for a hard day ahead. The post on social media did go wild after all."

Emma warned us all and Ben sighed, forcing his face in between his huge palms.

"Ugh, another day of hard work. Curse the Luminous Guild and its massive popularity. We can’t even live in peace anymore."

These were some words I had never heard outside TV dramas and I did not know whether to feel concerned or amused by this.

One thing I did know was that the day was going to suck a lot and I did not want to deal with it.

However, how could a low-ranking employee like me declare the cafe closed all on my own? I had to work for my meal after all.

So, for the remainder of the day, I worked as hard as I could until an uninvited guest showed up at the cafe’s door.

The cafe went quiet as Rhiner entered with a bouquet of flowers and walked toward me without looking around even once.

I had a feeling that this was not going to end well. And from the looks and hidden cameras that people whipped out, I knew I was right.
