Chapter 178: Ch 178: Coming Back- Part 4

It took me almost no time to get settled in. There was nothing much to do or explore. My room had clearly not been owned by anyone else before, so I could consider it a fresh start.

Once I had settled down, I decided to head toward the conference room where the current meeting was being held.

Lynn had already messaged me that I was welcome to join him and the planning committee anytime I was ready. And I did not want to avoid my problem any longer.

With my signature mask in place, I pushed open the conference room door, ready to head inside.

There were not a lot of people in the room. There was Lynn, Edward (current rank #3), Kesha (current rank #11), and Rhiner. On the other side were people I had never seen before in my life.

The opposition leader was dressed sharply and had a certain... charm... about him that made me suspicious and look at him with narrowed eyes.

He extended his hand toward me without hesitation, and a relaxed smile took over that handsome face.

"It’s an honor to meet you, Sir Ace. My name is Rudy, and I am the current acting head of the Hunter’s Association. Please pardon how young I am. I do not look my age because of my... abilities."

The man did not say much, but each word seemed to be calculated. He was trying to put me at ease.

But it was not going to be as easy as he hoped since I was not about to fall for his tricks.

I did take that extended hand and felt the other person try and use their abilities on me.

[Warning: external ability is being used on the user]

[Due to user’s inner immunity, the ability has been neutralized]

’Tsk, I knew that this man was trying to cause trouble for me. Luckily, things like this do not work on me.’

I sighed in relief internally before I pulled my hand back quickly. There was no way I was going to allow that person to grab hold of my hand longer than necessary.

Rhiner let out a scoff as well as he saw how forward the Association’s representative was being toward me, and Rudy quickly pulled his hand back.

He looked a little flushed and embarrassed that he had been caught trying what he did, but was quick to cover up his tracks.

Cough

"It seems that we are all here. Now, without further ado, shall we start this meeting? Surely, the Hunter Association has a good reason to call us here when we are so busy?"

Lynn asked, taking over the conversation to drive it away from me. He could tell that I did not want to talk about anything.

Rudy smiled at Lynn, his smile not leaving his face no matter what anyone asked him. He looked like a scumbag, but maybe I felt like that because he was with the Association.

"Ah yes, we should talk about the important stuff, right? The recent Hell’s Fire dungeon that you took care of—I cannot help but notice that a lot was omitted from the report. We would like a full report of the case."

That was the first thing the Association demanded, and Lynn immediately put his foot down.

"I am not going to subject those poor people we rescued to interrogation just because you want a report. If they are going to talk, let them do it at their own pace. We have no right to interfere with them."

Lynn was firm, and I felt proud of him. But Rudy was not as understanding or happy as he was pretending to be.

Instead of agreeing, he turned toward everyone else and spoke up.

"While I do understand your point, you cannot deny that there are a lot of other dungeons that can be benefitted from the knowledge and experience of what happened in the Hell’s Fire incident. That’s why, the more we know, the better."

He told everyone, and the tides suddenly shifted.

At first, most hunters had been on Lynn’s side and sympathized with other hunters. But all of a sudden, they agreed with Rudy when it came to clearing other dungeons. I could tell that Lynn was flustered by this.

So I decided to step forward before any more could be said.

"I do not agree with that. Since the hunters are in distress, anything they say would need to be taken with a grain of salt. It would be better to have them come forward themselves when they are ready."

My words were heavy, and they caused everyone else to go quiet.

I knew what kind of presence I had in the hunter community, and I was not afraid to use it either.

Rudy coughed as he saw that I had entered to speak as well, and he quickly tried to regain control over the situation.

"I do understand where you are coming from, Hunter Ace. But surely not all of the hunters are shaken after what happened, and a few are willing to speak up? What about you? You still have to make your report as well, right?"

The acting chairman asked in a low voice, and I felt caught by him.

Thankfully, I did not feel pressured that easily and frowned as I looked at him.

"I do need to make my report, but who says I am not shaken after what happened in the dungeon? Just because I am better at hiding my emotions does not mean you get to say what you want to me."

I told the other side, and they fell quiet all of a sudden. I knew that it was my win, but I could not leave the room just yet.

There was something weird about this acting chairman that caused me to be concerned. And I could not tell why that was, but something... just felt off about him. It was almost as if he was not a human, but some other kind of creature.
