Chapter 108: Ch 108: Offer to Join- Part 1

"Huh-! Sorry. Did I make you feel uncomfortable? That was not my intention. I just...did not want you to run away before we could have our talk."

Lynn told me as he let go of my arm almost as if I had burned him. That felt even worse than Lynn dragging me behind him like a criminal.

But I shook it off and gave him a look before settling down.

"That’s fine. I doubt you can hurt me with simply your strength. So, what did you want to talk to me about? Surely, you did not drag me here to cause me trouble, right?"

I asked the hunter in front of me, and Lynn had an almost embarrassed look on his face as he looked at me.

"I...of course not-! I would never do that. Anyway, I wanted to show you this. This is a report of the energy readings from the last dungeon. According to the experts, the energy waves of the dungeon were off the charts. This has only happened once before...when you..."

Lynn trailed off while speaking. He likely did not want to remind me of the time I spent in the dungeon.

"It’s fine. You don’t have to censor yourself for my sake. I am not weak enough to feel sorry for myself over something like that."

I told Theo, and he looked taken aback by my words.

"I...ah-! Is that so? I apologize. Then, I won’t censor myself around you anymore."

Lynn told me just as easily as he accepted that I did not want him to hold back before me. His eyes told me that he was not simply saying this to please me.

The hunter truly meant what he said.

"So, according to those waves, there was something in this dungeon that belonged to the S-class dungeon 10 years ago. Weirdly enough, similar signals began to form in dungeon #36 as well before it collapsed."

Lynn’s words reminded me of the dungeon that was used to hold the hunter’s championship, and that changed my theory about this whole mess.

Initially, I thought that the energy he was talking about belonged to the high priest, but as far as I know, dungeon #36 never got that far before we stopped it.

’Could the energy belong to the formation of the high priest-? Or something more-? Could it be...something more?’

Now this felt concerning. The fact that it happened twice in such a short amount of time was no coincidence.

But the fact that all three times it happened, there was only one denominator—Kyle. It was clear what the problem here was.

"You might have already guessed, but this only happened once you got involved with those dungeons. The higher-ups of the association don’t know that because they don’t know about your involvement with dungeon #36 yet, but it is only a matter of time..."

Lynn told me, and I agreed. Things like these were hard to hide. Especially if I were to go in more dungeons and something similar kept happening.

So I needed a solution...which Lynn decided to provide me with.

"Anyway, what I am saying is that you don’t need to worry about it so much because I have already thought of a solution for you regarding this. All you need to do is officially join our guild, and I will be legally able to protect you."

Lynn told me, and I felt myself pause at that.

"Join...your guild?"

I repeated these words, not because I was shocked, but because I never thought I would ever get such a chance in my life.

"A guild contract is a legal document that binds all people. I doubt it would do much to hold back your freedom, but it would give us legal rights to protect you. This might not sound appealing to someone like you, but do consider this offer."

Lynn looked me right in the eyes as he told me this, and I could feel his sincerity in his voice.

I had no doubt that Lynn had his own agenda when he told me what he wanted to do, but I also felt like he was serious about wanting to help me out.

And truthfully, there was only so much I could do alone.

I could fight all the people, but what about Emma and Ben? What about Theo? Would I be able to protect them all the time from people who doubted me or had a problem with me?

I doubted that, so I did the logical thing I could.

"Hmm, your offer is decent, but I need you to include something else in it. Instead of protecting me, you need to protect people I care about. I can take care of myself, but Emma, Ben, and Theo cannot do that. So offer them protection, and we have a deal."

I told the alpha in front of me, and he looked taken aback by my words.

He blinked as if he had never even considered that I would ask something like that before he chuckled.

"Ah-! I feel like I misjudged you so hard up until now, Ace. You always came across as uncaring and hard-headed and a loner whenever I thought of you. But I know now that even you have a compassionate side to you."

Lynn told me as he tried to keep the smile off his face.

I just gave him a blank stare, and he got himself under control.

"I understand. I will make necessary preparations. Though I do hope that you would consider our guild as one of your precious places in the future as well. But for now, allow me to welcome you to our guild."

The alpha told me as he extended his hand toward me.

I had not told Lynn that I would join his guild, but I felt like there was no need to tell him either. We both knew I did not have many choices.

"Hmm, this is my first time in a guild, so I might be lacking. And I also won’t be leaving my job at the café, so make sure to tell me in advance if you want me to do anything. Other than that, I will be happy to work with you."

I told Lynn, and he sighed.

"Of course. I am sure everyone would be jealous to see that we managed to bag you like this. For now, you can go through the contract, and I will tell you about the press release and what I want you to do."

Lynn told me, and I walked out of the door.

I could feel the alpha’s gaze at me all that while until I reached back inside the café. The contract was safe in my system storage, and I was going to take my time reading it for red flags.

But overall, I had made up my mind already about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do.

"Kyle, you are back. That alpha did not do anything to you, right? I will kill him if he did. How dare he—"

Theo looked and sounded angry, and I just laughed as I patted his back. Theo was truly the cutest, and just being with him made me feel better.
