"See you tonight, Neraxis," Celina said with a soft smile, waving goodbye as he closed the door behind her.

And now, he was left all alone, with the exception of Elara, who was blasting music upstairs.

Picking up the phone, he read the message she sent.

<Amara: You’re needed for an emergency mission, duration should be around 6 hours depending on how fast you work. For further information, put on your mask, I will transport you shortly.>

Neraxis stepped into his room, took out his mask from Evangeline’s storage, and put it on.

Immediately, his vision shifted, and he soon appeared before the round table where most of the other members should be gathered.

However, this time, there was only Amara, who sat on the table, idly swinging her legs.

"Fifth Veil," she nodded at him. "There’s been a situation that developed in one of our territories, and I want you to eliminate any disturbances."

"And who exactly are those disturbances?" Neraxis asked, and she tossed over a document.

"Read it," Amara said as he picked it up, skimming through the content.

But not even a few paragraphs in, he put the document back down, looking at her with a frown.

"This is not on our world."

"Indeed," she jumped off the table, walking over to him. "But it is a world where we have great influence. I didn’t specify where you would be doing espionage, did I?"

She didn’t. But another world, really? Neraxis found it a bit hard to believe, however, he agreed nonetheless. "Send me there, I’ll deal with the rest."

A small smile appeared on Amara’s face. "That’s the spirit. Do note that since you are an official Veil now, you will not be getting any additional support. You are all alone, and I won’t be in your ear either."

"I understand, First Veil. You can send me over now," Neraxis replied, and she raised her sword, which, upon closer look, seemed a tad familiar.

But before he could wonder further, she swung it down.

As she did, his vision once again shifted, yet this time, the shift was more gradual than instant.

All around him were different kinds of blue particles, all of which acted as the wind, guiding him toward the brightest flash of blue present.

Once he finally reached it, Neraxis found himself standing in some alleyway, the foul odor immediately entering his nose.

It wasn’t blood, but more so the sheer stink of the people around.

His phone vibrated, and once he opened the messages app, he saw some kind of map, followed by a list of instructions, which unsurprisingly, were pretty straightforward.

<Amara: Here’s the map, {Attachment}>

<Amara: I want you to eliminate a certain group of individuals calling themselves Monarchs. They are pretty weak, just a tad stronger than you, but judging from your performance, you should be able to handle them. They dress in weird, edgy white clothes, you’ll be able to spot them easily, they don’t try to hide. Good luck, Fifth Veil.>

Monarchs, huh? They sound a bit like the Sovereigns, and if they wear some distinct clothing, then they might be tied together somehow. Neraxis pondered, putting the phone back into his pocket and jumping on top of a roof.

Immediately, he had a good view of the city, and it was clearly not as technologically advanced as Argon.

In fact, quite a lot of people dressed poorly, and no cars were in sight; what replaced them were carriages dragged by horses.

But the people he was supposed to be looking for were nowhere in sight.

Neraxis reached for his mask to take it off, but a message soon stopped him.

<Amara: P.S. don’t take off your mask, it’s the only thing protecting your identity in that place.>

Very convenient timing, he remarked inwardly, and glanced at a particular stone tower in the distance.

It seemed to be the highest point present, so he stealthily dashed toward it and climbed to the very top.

Now, he could see the city fully, with vast forests stretching out beyond it.

The city was surprisingly massive, with the area he was in what he could only assume to be the poor people area. Further ahead, he could see castles and even mansions of different sizes.

Yet the one thing that stood out was an individual wearing a white jacket with some sort of symbol on the back Neraxis could not spot from this distance.

This was the only person with such clothing; therefore, he jumped down, leaping from roof to roof until he reached the spot where the suspicious person had stood a few moments prior.

He’s not moving? Neraxis thought, glancing down at him, specifically at the symbol on his back.

Once he saw what kind of symbol it was, Neraxis froze, his heartbeat speeding up.

A symbol of a hyena, which may appear ordinary to the other people around.

However, to Neraxis, who already noticed there was some sort of connection between the Sovereigns and the Obscura, it was a dead giveaway.

After all, the hyena mask was the same person who had killed his parents.

[He’s dead.] Evangeline remarked with a soft hum. [Looks like for a while now, his blood’s practically ice.]

Good. Neraxis exclaimed and jumped down, landing before the person who appeared to be a man and took off his white jacket before putting it on.

[Infiltration?] Evangeline mused, and he nodded in response.

Yes, if I want to find out more with the limited information I have, then I need to get to their base or something, he explained, and began heading into an alleyway.

So far, his plan was to simply walk around, until eventually, he spotted another Monarch.

Yet as Neraxis walked around the city, entering each district, he had not managed to find anyone.

But just as he was planning to give up, he twisted his body, dodging what appeared to be an arrow shot from a very far distance.

Given the trajectory, he traced it to one of the towers, which were some of the highest in the city. Read new chapters at novelbuddy

And his suspicions were proven correct when another arrow flew toward him from the same direction he had been looking.

However, instead of dodging, he caught it in his hands before disintegrating it with Aura of the Abyss.

A steel arrow—pretty dangerous, he thought, and as he did, a volley of arrows began bombarding him, which he either dodged or destroyed with his perk.

Neraxis kept this up until he reached cover.

Yet as he did, he suddenly used Crimson Sovereignty’s Shadow Mantle, making himself immune to physical attacks.

The bonus was he was transparent in the eyes of others, so Neraxis was easily able to pass through undetected, considering it was nighttime in this world.

A few more arrows were shot where he had stood, but to the archer’s dismay, Neraxis had managed to climb behind them in the short span of several seconds.

It’s a woman? he glanced at the archer. She had long pointy ears, which immediately made him think she might be an elf.

Neraxis walked up to her slowly, his footsteps not making a sound.

Yet just as he arrived, she turned around, glancing at him with shock.

But before she could even muster a word or grab her bow, he swung the hilt of his sword down on her head, knocking her out.

Glancing to the side, he spotted a bit of rope, which he used to tie her up, setting her aside in the corner of what appeared to be some sort of bell tower.

He waited patiently, and only after ten minutes did she finally wake up, glaring at him in hate.

"You Monarch bastard! Let me go!"

"I’m not a Monarch," Neraxis refuted, taking off the jacket and putting it in his dimensional ring. "However, I need some information."

He walked up to her, holding his sword at her neck.

"Will you comply?"
