Chapter 88: Got you!

At the same time, he raised his hands again to connect with the smaller constructs, but black threads intercepted his own strings and cut things away.

He gritted his teeth and gestured with his hands. Strings hung around him, warping the air and forming a shield around him like the wings of a giant monster.

All the attacks thrown at the shield got repaired immediately.

Serenthar turned towards the carriage, the shield turning translucent. "Vacuse, you really are as troublesome as they said. The last time the Black Accord was in Kragthar, it was you that foiled the plans we spent a lot on.

"Unfortunately, I was away on some delicate assassination work, but now I am here. I will show you the true might of just one Black Accord member! I will let you know why they call me the master of the battlefield!"

With that, he raised his two hands, and above his head, just above the shield, something began to form. It was a large beast the colour of old leaves, with countless legs.

The beast looked like a worm as it squirmed in the air above him. Silver light bathed the beast. The light spilled down around Serenthar and merged with the shield, turning everything into a shiny, egg-like cocoon.

Vacuse frowned from his place. "He’s going to join form with his beast for a shift. This isn’t good."

After all, partial shift or full shifts will boost the original ability of the Soulbearer, and the higher the rank, the more power they would be able to draw from it.

Baleful aura erupted from the cocoon, sending a ripple of energy washing over everything around them. Those who were not the same rank as Serenthar felt as if their own energy was being forcefully suppressed.

Deepbonded Resonant is the fourth rank in the Advancement Stage, and it is considered a mid Advancement Stage. Combined with the A-rank beast,

Serenthar is an elite and a powerhouse that should be able to defend a large town easily. Even in the Dragon Guards that are known as elite, only the captains are at the Deepbonded Resonant rank, along with some occasional prodigies.

After all, from ten Soulbearers, only about one or none would be Deepbonded Resonant. And a rank A Deepbonded Resonant? That is even rarer.

And Vacuse wouldn’t have been that concerned, because even with all of that, Serenthar is only one person. And the captain is in the same rank as him. With the others, they should be able to take care of him easily.

But the problem lies in the fact that Serenthar could control puppet constructs. That gave him a lot of advantages that normal Deepbonded Resonants wouldn’t have.

In fact, it made Serenthar a very dangerous opponent and out of league with almost all the other Soulbearers at the same rank as him.

But that also made Vacuse even more wary. "The constructs that this bastard used should be fucking expensive, but he’s using them as if they are toys.

"So fucking expensive that even the normal Grand Dukes wouldn’t just think once before using them. And yet, that’s not the least of what he has in his arsenal."

"What are you talking about?" Lord Ragna asked in a faint whisper.

Vacuse pointed up at the sky. "There are still a lot of constructs in the sky. It seems someone really powerful is funding them."

"To be honest, I wouldn’t mind having someone like him under my control. He’s fucking powerful. I’m jealous of his power."

Vacuse’s eyes gleamed with greed as he watched the cocoon.

The Dragon Guards had long since left the area for Serenthar as the pressure got too much. Only Captain Mera was approaching steadily, still covered in her purple hard light.

She was within a few feet when the cocoon suddenly burst with a wave of shockwave that sent dust and small stones flying back.

Serenthar appeared once again in a sparkle of silver light, but his form had changed.

He was now taller, and his body was covered by a metallic shine. His face had deep lines carved into it, and he resembled a puppet. But the biggest change was his hands.

He had gained two extra limbs, and they jutted out of his side. His fingers were narrow and fine, covered by silver light with a smooth shine.

He picked at the air as if he was plucking a string, and strings appeared all around him, most of them disappearing into the sky. The strings were thicker and glowed more intensely.

Serenthar turned towards the carriage once more. His voice was wooden and metallic. "Vacuse. It seems I would have to bring you back by force."

Vacuse grimaced and moved away from the window. "Harkon... things might have progressed... a little bit wrongly."

Captain Mera frowned. "All units, prepare for long-distance attacks! Do not approach. Let those with weaker stage go to the back!"

The weaker the stage, the more pressure Serenthar could put on them.

More light flooded the Captain as she began to walk towards him.

But Serenthar ignored her. His six hands rose up at the same time and plucked the air as if empty space was a string.

Plunk!

At once, all the smaller constructs lying on the ground were attached with strings. And at the same moment, they flew towards the Captain as if she was an attracting magnet.

Each of the small constructs glowed white-hot and...

Boom! Bam! Boom!

They exploded with her in the middle.

Serenthar smiled. "Hail, Dragon heir! I’m going to break a few bones in your body before I give you to the boss!"

Vacuse didn’t doubt him, and his stomach clenched as he watched the dust and fire bellow up from where the explosion happened.

It seems... his way of getting out of the mess had been cut away.

Serenthar took a single step and was immediately in front of the carriage. One of his hands shot forward and punched the carriage hard.

The runes lit up, and the shield of translucent light showed up above the carriage. Nothing seemed to happen to it. Even the carriage didn’t move one inch from its place.

But surprisingly, Serenthar only grinned. "Got you!"
