Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Holly Sawyer’s Doubts

Leo has been very busy these past few days. Holly doesn’t know what he’s been busy with, and the gang she’s keeping an eye on hasn’t made any moves.

Holly sat in the school cafeteria, staring blankly at the food in front of her, with little appetite.

"Senior, why aren’t you eating?"

Nancy Miller looked at Holly, who seemed quite upset, and curiously asked.

Ever since she and Holly had a meal together, Holly had invited her out to eat again, and naturally, they began having lunch together.

Normally, Holly is particularly lively, especially when it comes to food—she has a sort of persistence.

"Maybe it’s just too hot, and I don’t have an appetite."

Holly smiled and said.

She always feels that lately, Leo’s behavior has been strange. She’s tried to investigate what he’s been up to but hasn’t been able to find anything.

This shouldn’t be the case.

It’s odd that Holly, who has always been able to uncover what she wants to find out, finds herself puzzled by this.

"Yes, summer break is coming soon."

Nancy glanced at the weather outside — the sun was blazing and the heat was intense.

The summers in Bexley are always hot; once summer arrives, the weather becomes very warm. Nancy has grown up here and is used to it.

"Do you know much about Leo?"

Holly looked seriously at Nancy, slowly asking the question.

She’s learned about Leo through online sources and research but has never truly understood him in real life.

"Everyone in Bexley knows about Leo."

Nancy said.

He stands at the top of the pyramid. Who wouldn’t know?

Leo came to Bexley five years ago, starting his company with his own abilities. In Bexley, he’s almost mythical. People might not know the man, but they’ll definitely know the name.

"Oh."

Holly tapped her bowl with her chopsticks, still looking upset.

She knew this, of course.

"I was lucky enough to have some interactions with him; he seems to have a ’pretend to be a pig to eat a tiger’ vibe."

Nancy suddenly spoke after some time.

Perhaps because she doesn’t like socializing and enjoys her freedom, she tends to observe people carefully, being particularly good at it.

"How so?"

Holly asked.

Everyone says Leo is incredibly capable, and there are many legends about him, but after getting to know him more, Holly feels Leo doesn’t seem that formidable.

She can’t explain it, but on several occasions, Leo almost encountered danger, avoided only because of her intervention.

"I don’t really know how to explain."

Nancy shook her head, as this was simply how she felt, but she couldn’t articulate the reason.

"By the way, senior, what’s your relationship with Leo?"

Out of sudden curiosity, Nancy asked. She’s seen Leo come to pick Holly up; their relationship must be quite good.

As far as she knows, Leo rarely has women around him, especially those with close relationships.

"Take a guess."

Holly blinked, a playful hint in her voice.

Hmm, what kind of relationship?

Perhaps there isn’t much of one.

Nancy smiled without saying anything, bowing her head to eat.

"Why do you live on campus?"

Holly was somewhat puzzled. Nancy’s home is quite close to Veridian, so she wonders why Nancy chose to live at school.

Staying at home would be much more convenient.

"Because I don’t like that home."

Nancy smiled bitterly, speaking slowly in a particularly soft voice.

Yes, because she doesn’t like that home, she requested to stay on campus after starting university and rarely goes back.

She loves dance, but Miles Miller didn’t want her to pursue it, leading to a period of conflict between them.

"Why?"

Holly raised an eyebrow.

Miles has only Nancy as his daughter now, so he should be quite fond of her, and his current wife is also his first love.

"Because... my mom is too humble. I don’t like seeing her like that."

Nancy lowered her head, a helpless smile on her lips.

Her mom constantly tries to please Miles every day, fearing he’ll abandon her like before.

Watching it makes Nancy feel her mom is too humble; she doesn’t want to see her mom like that.

Holly remains silent, just watching Nancy.

"Senior, I feel a real connection with you, so I’m willing to share some things."

Looking intently at Holly, Nancy spoke seriously.

She doesn’t enjoy making friends and isn’t interested in it, preferring her solitary lifestyle, feeling quite free.

For some reason, she feels a particular affinity with Holly and wants to befriend her.

"I also feel a connection with you, so I wanted to get to know you."

Holly playfully blinked, her face beaming with a smile.

Sometimes you feel a connection due to the other’s features, but sometimes it’s due to blood relations.

She and Nancy fall into the latter category.

——

When Holly returned home, Leo wasn’t there. Mrs. Hayes had already prepared the meal and placed it on the table.

"Holly, you came home a bit late today."

When Leo is busy, Holly usually returns home by herself. He had arranged a driver for her, but Holly refused.

"I was just out playing with some classmates."

Holly’s smile was sweet as she spoke slowly.

Play?

That’s not the case.

She was just handling a few matters, and she has to find time for The Pantheon too.

"Isn’t your brother coming home?"

Holly glanced around the empty living room, biting her lower lip in an aggrieved manner, looking particularly pitiful.

Leo has been very busy recently, and Holly doesn’t even know what he’s occupied with.

"The young master has been quite busy lately. He always gets particularly busy at this time of year. Holly, you should go to bed early, no need to wait for the young master."

Mrs. Hayes spoke softly.

It’s approaching the end of July, and Leo is always busy at this time every year, leaving early and returning late.

Since coming to Bexley, this has consistently been the case, and Mrs. Hayes hasn’t pried into Leo’s activities.

"Okay, I got it."

Holly nodded obediently, sitting silently at the dining table eating, yet finding the food tasteless.

What exactly is Leo busy with?

After eating, Holly went upstairs, turned on her computer, and tried to track Leo but found nothing.

It’s quite perplexing.

Her computer skills are excellent, and she’s always been able to find out anything she wants. Previously, she had meticulously searched through Leo’s information, but now she realizes she seems to have missed a lot.

Nancy’s words suddenly popped into her mind, prompting Holly to fall into deep thought.

Leo shouldn’t be such a simple person, laid bare by her scrutiny.
