The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 136: Miles Miller Pays a Visit
Her introverted personality made her reluctant to interact with others, and she rarely had contact with boys. Being cared for by a guy like this was something she had never experienced before, and she felt slightly anxious inside.
Uneasily anxious.
"Don’t feel burdened, look over there."
It was obvious that Nancy Miller seemed a bit uneasy, and Noah Raines pointed in Holly Sawyer’s direction and said.
"Girls only need to focus on eating."
Noah Raines said gently, his tone sincere.
Nancy Miller: "..."
That’s what he said, but it felt different.
Holly and Leo were in a relationship, so Leo picking fishbones for Holly was normal, there was nothing wrong with that.
But she and Noah Raines weren’t in that kind of relationship. Was it really okay for him to pick fishbones for her?
It was quite peculiar.
Nancy Miller found the meal unappealing while she kept pondering this issue.
"Um, I’m full, I have something to take care of, so I’ll head out first."
Just then, her phone rang, and Nancy Miller went out to take a call, planning to say goodbye when she returned.
The dance studio needed her to handle something, so she had to go over there.
"Let me take you there."
Noah Raines volunteered.
"There’s no need, really. I can go by myself."
Nancy Miller waved her hand to refuse, as she never liked troubling others.
However, Noah Raines insisted on taking her, and Nancy Miller, left with no choice, allowed him to do so.
"He’s not a player, right?"
Holly raised her gaze to look at the departing Noah Raines and Nancy Miller and said softly.
She did spend quite some time with Noah Raines, but she didn’t really know him well, only the surface level.
She didn’t really understand what kind of person Noah Raines was.
Leo shook his head: "No, he’s not."
Although Noah Raines did come across as a bit unserious, he was actually quite reliable, and his love life was blank—he wasn’t the type to be a player.
"That’s good then."
Holly nodded, then returned her attention to the food in her bowl.
As long as Noah Raines wasn’t a player, nothing else mattered. She wouldn’t involve herself in others’ relationships, nor offer her opinions.
She’d just observe how things unfold.
"Brother, I want to order another serving of lobster."
The large plate of lobsters was almost finished, and Holly, supporting her chin, said slowly.
They were tempting, and she really wanted to eat them.
"Sure."
Leo, acceding to Holly’s wishes, ordered another serving of lobster.
When the lobster arrived, Leo started peeling shrimp for Holly, and they whispered to each other.
Nathaniel, seated across from them, watched the pair in front of him, his lips twitching slightly.
With Noah Raines gone, he felt like he was dining alone on dog food. Eating dog food all by yourself really makes you full.
Nathaniel found the fish in his bowl less appetizing, and even the freshly served lobster seemed less delicious.
"It’s been a while since I’ve felt what it’s like to peel shrimp."
Holly looked at the lobsters with their shells peeled in her bowl, glanced at the unpeeled ones on the table, and sighed lightly.
Ever since she met Leo, she didn’t have to deal with things that needed peeling or shelling.
She really was just responsible for eating, nothing else needed her concern.
"You just need to focus on eating; nothing else matters."
Leo gazed warmly at Holly, his tone particularly gentle. His girl was meant to be pampered.
"Okay."
Holly’s eyebrows curved gently, looking at Leo with utmost tenderness.
Being pampered like this felt wonderful, and she loved it.
"Brother, you should eat too; I’m full."
As the mound of shrimp in her bowl grew, Holly spoke slowly, shaking her head at Leo.
She had almost had enough to eat, close to feeling full.
Leo hadn’t really eaten much; he had been taking care of her the whole time.
Nathaniel glanced at the lovey-dovey pair across him and sighed heavily, making the food in his bowl less appetizing.
This kind of dog food was hard to swallow.
"Leo, I’m full, I have something to take care of, I’ll head out first while you keep eating slowly."
Nathaniel swiftly put down his chopsticks and hurriedly left.
It was too distressing for him as a single guy constantly being fed dog food.
When Leo was still single, Nathaniel and Noah Raines would often urge him to find a girlfriend, even thinking of introducing someone to him.
But now that Leo was in a relationship, Nathaniel wished Leo would quickly break up.
Leo himself found this sentiment hard to comprehend; it just felt rather ridiculous.
"Brother, did Miles Miller contact you today?"
Holly suddenly remembered and asked Leo.
It was clear that Miles Miller’s agenda was to overcome the current crisis by leveraging his connection with Leo.
"No, why?"
Leo looked at Holly with curiosity. He was aware of Miles Miller, but only because of Holly.
"Nothing."
Holly shook her head.
No contact was good.
"What’s up with him?"
Leo, intrigued, asked while continuing to peel shrimp for Holly.
"His company has a deficit. He’ll probably seek my help."
Holly spoke matter-of-factly. Now, her eyes and ears were all over the company, many of whom were placed by her, with Tess Young being the primary one.
"Hm?"
Leo looked at Holly, waiting for her to continue.
He knew the history between Holly, Miles Miller, and Nancy Miller, and understood that Holly felt indifferent toward Miles Miller as a father, but he didn’t know her true feelings.
"There are my people inside."
Holly’s tone was bland, but Leo understood the implication from her brief words.
The reason behind Miles Miller’s company’s deficit was interference from Holly.
——
The next day, Miles Miller indeed came to block Holly’s path. As Holly was leaving, dressed and ready to meet Leo at the company, she saw Miles Miller at the entrance.
Holly’s expression remained indifferent.
When Miles Miller saw Holly, his eyes lit up, as if he had seen a savior.
"Cindy."
Miles Miller stepped forward, trying to grab Holly’s hand, his eyes brimming with a smile.
He had asked Nancy Miller for Holly’s contact details. When Nancy Miller fobbed him off, claiming she didn’t have them, he was left with no choice but to confront Holly in person.
"Sorry, I don’t know Cindy."
Holly took a small step back, putting some distance between herself and Miles Miller.
When he first discovered who she was, he was all about being attentive and saying nice things, but not once did he reach out. Now he had troubles and came running to her, asking for help?
Ugh, it was really quite ironic.
"I should be calling you Holly now."
Miles Miller was momentarily stunned, then looked at Holly and spoke slowly.
He remembered her mentioning that she no longer went by Cindy but was now called Holly.
"Are we that close?"
Holly raised an eyebrow, giving Miles Miller a half-smile, half-frown.
If it weren’t for a company issue, Miles Miller wouldn’t even bother coming to Bexley to find her, his so-called daughter."
