The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 240: Fall of Sidney
Liam conveyed Rory’s change of heart to the prosecutors. Rory was sitting by his side, listening in on the call.
The prosecutors were trying to stop the defense lawyers from filing a motion against the testimony of Sidney. The defense argued that Sidney is not mentally fit to be on the witness stand. They even had medical reports of Sidney that exposed the amount of abuse she had endured over the years and how it had altered her brain chemistry.
Guess who confessed to abusing Sidney.
Yeah, Lennon!
He grew conscience out of nowhere and he decided to set it straight and "ask for forgiveness".
Still, Sidney was a liability. She in her current mental state was like a cat on the fence. She can jump either this side or that side. Her testimony could either affect Lennon’s sentencing or help Lennon. Lennon apparently didn’t want to take that bargain. And he also wanted to push Rory to the stand.
Rory rolled her eyes.
Liam told the prosecutors to fight the motion till the end and keep Rory’s change of heart a secret.
"He wants you on the stand so badly," Liam said rubbing his forehead.
Rory leaned on his shoulder. She thought the same too. It scared her for many reasons. She was greatly affected by him and to be in front of him, recalling that incident once more... It’s going to be very hard.
The following days were a bloodbath metaphorically. The prosecutors and the defense were at war. The Prosecutors still wanted Sidney’s testimony as they wanted the jurors to see how screwed up Lennon made her be. Sidney was once a smart, beautiful, and intelligent lady. Just by marrying Lennon, her life as she knew it ended and she became a bitter opportunist.
Rory was against that idea and so was Liam. Sidney does not have to be paraded around for any purpose. It was obvious she cannot make any sound decisions for herself.
She has a daughter, and they didn’t want Skyla to see how her mother was manipulated to be on the stand even if it was to bring a criminal to justice.
They were informed that Sidney already recorded the interview.
Turned out that the "Live" interview Sidney mentioned was not live at all. It was a "live to tape" interview. They recorded it a couple of days earlier than the broadcast date and it would supposedly be broadcasted without any editing.
After they got the news, Liam with the help of the prosecution, tried to get the tapes of the interview to see how sound Sidney sounded. With the cooperation of the boss of the news company, they got the tapes.
It was worse than they thought.
Sidney talked about her previously illustrious career and how her life changed after marrying Lennon Roberts. She needlessly brought up Liam’s family and how they were very unsupportive. She named Derick as some heartless psycho who didn’t "see" her suffering although he is an agent working for the FBI. She blamed Liam for never attempting to talk to her. And Justice Roberts was blamed for being uncaring about everything.
And more than anything, she spewed vile rhetoric against Rory. She blamed Rory for everything that went bad in her life. More than even Lennon himself.
Maybe the interviewer didn’t want to interrupt this juicy gossip of the Roberts family, or she wanted to paint a certain picture for the sake of views and a follow-up interview, or she had an agenda being paid by someone, she didn’t push back on Sidney’s claims.
Having free reign on speaking "her truth" Sidney in the latter part of the interview had become more brazen. She even said at one point that Rory knew what Lennon was up to for a long time and since Rory was such a narcissist, she loved that attention on herself and even bragged to Sidney about it.
Lies, half-truths, and exaggerated metaphors--those were Sidney’s truths.
It was very obvious that Sidney wanted to paint a dangerously bad picture of Rory. Any mature person will know that Sidney is not right in the mind to blame Rory when she too was the victim. It was obvious Sidney was jealous of Rory. She blamed Rory for hoarding her husband’s attention.
The internet is not a place for mature people, Rory knew, and it sent her to panic. The prosecutors also felt that this interview will affect the trial. Liam was enraged watching that interview. By the time they finished watching, there were less than twenty hours left for the airing.
The prosecutors left saying that they will file a motion to not air this interview. Rory didn’t know how they are going to do that when it was the weekend. But they were sure that they can get a judge to sign the order.
Liam was calm and sent the prosecutors on their way.
"What?" Rory asked.
Liam hugged her. "Don’t stress yourself," he patted her back. "I never should have pitied that snake, Cherry. I’m sorry..."
"You did nothing wrong," she said.
Why would he even apologize?
"Call Gordon," he said. "I don’t care if she dies."
"I too won’t mind," Rory looked at him. "But it won’t be good if she suddenly dies... I have an idea though..." she said.
Liam decided to listen. He smirked when she finished her plan.
"Remind me not to cross you again," he kissed her. Rory just laughed.
Sidney’s parents were shown the footage of the interview. They were just regular people, and they were very apologetic on behalf of Sidney.
They didn’t like that she talked badly about her in-laws. They understood that everyone was surprised by the revelation that Lennon was a psychopathic killer. No one would have any means of knowing what happened in their mansion unless she told them.
And they apologized greatly to Rory. They were genuinely ashamed of Sidney for turning everything on Rory who had saved her life that night.
So, with their help, Sidney was taken into a voluntary commitment to a mental health center. It was truthfully involuntary as Sidney was sedated and brought there, but her parents found it was necessary for Sidney.
They even sent an open letter to the news organization and the interviewer for exploiting their mentally ill daughter for their own gain and views.
Sidney’s father’s letter became viral within hours. And the news channel was forced not to air that interview.
"It worked," Liam came back home tired.
"Thanks, dear," Rory hugged and kissed him. She gave the idea, but Liam was the one who executed it flawlessly.
"Anything for you, my darling," Liam picked her up. "Where’s Ellie?" he asked.
"Sleeping," Rory smiled. "Aren’t you tired?" Rory hit his chest playfully as he carried her to bed.
"Not for this I’m not..." he threw her on the bed and jumped on her.
After a long back and forth between the prosecutors and the defense, the defense won, and the judge no longer wanted Sidney to testify considering her mental state.
And then, the defense filed another motion to entirely dismiss Sidney’s statements.
That was not good!
