The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 234: To Be Supportive
Liam ended the call. Rory was staring out of the window for the past half an hour. He was afraid that she might regress to her old habits. But her eyes were clear and that gave him some courage.
"Are you okay?" he sat on the recliner she was sitting on, after pushing her down.
Rory balanced herself from falling face-first on the floor. "What the f*ck!" she hit him in the arm and then plopped on his lap.
Liam with a smile hugged her around her waist and turned on the television. He wanted her to sit on his lap, so he pushed her down. She is just too dumb to know that.
There was a panel of commentators discussing the ongoing trial of Lennon Roberts. And one of them kept on mentioning Rory by name.
"Can’t you turn off the TV? Or... Let’s watch Hallmark..." she tried to get the remote from his hand.
"Oops!" Liam reclined and Rory ended up over him. "Come on, smile," he kissed her lips.
"What are you planning?" she asked. Liam wriggled his brows.
Rory snorted. She could see that he is planning something. And it made her mad that he is teasing her.
"I’m hearing Ellie cry," she tried to get down.
"No, you’re not!" Liam pulled her closer. "Just stay," he kissed her head.
’Aurora Roberts must be subpoenaed...’
The commentator was speaking, and Rory sighed. Liam turned down the volume of the television.
"If you don’t want to listen to them, listen to this..." he said, repeatedly kissing her forehead loudly.
Rory rolled her eyes. But she did love the attack of those wet and noisy kisses on her forehead. She closed her eyes and listened to his heartbeat. That calmed her down considerably and she almost fell asleep.
"Ah, there..." Liam turned on the volume of the television.
The panelists were still speaking, but the chyron broke the news of the CEO’s death of a billion-dollar entertainment company. Apparently, the helicopter he was traveling in met an accident due to the change in drafts resulting in his death, along with the pilot.
"You are never getting on a helicopter," Rory told Liam.
This guy has changed a lot. He bought a private jet out of nowhere and she was told he was planning on having a helipad in their own castle. Helicopters are the most unreliable form of transportation in her opinion. How many celebrities have died in a helicopter accident? One too many!
"As you wish, Milady," Liam agreed immediately.
Rory became skeptical as he was smirking. "What is it?" she asked.
"No one’s going to talk about you in the future regarding this trial," Liam said.
Rory couldn’t understand what he meant. Of how every news organization was running stories and panels regarding this, she didn’t think there ever is a chance that they will let her be.
But if Liam is this sure, then...
"No way..." she said. She truly couldn’t believe that could be the case. She pointed at the tv screen. "That guy... no way..."
Liam nodded. "Yes way, my dear. And now the stories the press is going to run is about that guy and the secret island he used for his debauchery..."
"And he is the one supporting Lennon?" Rory raised her brows.
"Was, my dear... He WAS..." Liam smirked.
Rory gulped. Liam is right. That guy has already become past tense. But judging by how Liam acted, that "accident" must not have been an accident.
"Ah, it’s late. Let’s go to bed," she got down. She didn’t have to discuss this with her husband. She could fill in the gaps.
Lennon must have promised this guy not to reveal his name when he confesses and in exchange must have asked him to pay for his lawyers. And Lennon must have pressured the lawyers to bring her in front of him for whatever sick reason his sick mind thinks of.
But the result is good. And the guy who died was not a saint. So, who cares.
She didn’t want to make Liam speak about it as if he is some bad guy. She thought plausible deniability should work here.
It must be Gordon Faraday who stepped in. In that case, it won’t be traced back to Liam. And that was enough for her.
This time Liam didn’t stop her. He showed her what he wanted to show her. She was staring at her phone and at the road for the entire day. And by the end of the day, they’ve identified who caused this trouble and eliminated them. That much is good.
Now she can sleep peacefully, after getting served by him on the bed.
He ran behind her and slapped her butt. She yelped and jumped out of fright. Seriously, he couldn’t understand how she could be surprised every time he slaps her butt. She should have gotten used to it by now.
The next day, Rory’s name was nowhere on the trending list. It was filled with condolences for the "great" producer the film industry had ever seen.
And even before his autopsy was finished, stories were drip fed to the press. Stories that had proof of how much of a scumbag that man who died was.
The celebrities who were the first to write heartfelt condolence messages and those who wrote essays for eulogy had to delete their posts as the revealed stories were so preposterous. No one wanted to associate with him.
And the irony was, some of his well-known and famous protégé and muses came out with their own "survival" stories. They also revealed that they’ve seen their boss Lennon Roberts often on his island. A couple of names of women were revealed and another investigation was started on Lennon Roberts and that man.
In just a couple of days, his name was dragged through the mud, and he was left with no one to even attend his funeral.
While that was happening, the firm that was defending Lennon Roberts dropped him after offering a very heartfelt speech from his lawyers that they cannot sell their soul for money when they have daughters.
"They didn’t even put out a formal statement," Rory said, surprised. "That’s not very professional of them..."
"Ah, they weren’t paid a cent yet and... " Liam shrugged with an odd smirk.
"Were they threatened?" Rory asked. She couldn’t believe that they’d pushed this far.
Although she was happy, she got scared for Liam too. What if someone finds Liam as an opponent and destroys him using their power?
But then she realized something. Someone did try to destroy Liam. And he is still here, standing tall and moving forward with his chin up.
He sure can handle any future troubles that might come his way too.
Days passed and the prosecution was given enough time to make a much stronger case. They were contacting Rory often, and she let Liam answer for her. He was not polite to them, but they tried their best to have Rory’s testimony in court.
Rory’s heart started to waver when the mother of one of the victims blocked her and talked to her when she went grocery shopping. She found that she had a soft spot for mothers who cry in front of her.
She just told her that she didn’t think the defense would allow her testimony at the final moment. She got out of there as fast as she could. But the pleas of the mother echoed in her brain.
That night after their devil’s tango, Rory was playing with his chest hair. Well, Liam didn’t find it interesting that she tried to pluck his chest hair. But she was having fun.
"Do you think I can testify?" Rory asked.
"You want to?" he asked.
"Ugh!" Rory sighed. "Why isn’t the trial ending in just an hour or so like in TV dramas? Why are they doing it for months?"
"That’s how it is done..." Liam kissed her head.
"You are going to testify next, right?" Rory asked.
After Liam’s testimony, it’s going to be Sidney’s and then it will be the closing statements. After that, the juries will deliberate for the judge to make the final judgment.
It’s a long process! Tiringly long...
"Yes." Liam nodded. "In two days."
"Have you prepared well?" she asked. She had seen him with a thick stack of papers at times. She knew it was regarding the trial
"I am a bit scared." Liam rubbed her back.
"To face him?" Rory asked sitting up.
.
Liam shook his head. "No, not that. But... Lennon’s funding is cut entirely. And his lawyers are not that great. But still, we have to be very careful..." Liam said.
Rory nodded. As the trial is getting closer to the end, there cannot be any mistakes that would jeopardize Lennon’s ultimate destruction.
Rory patted his back as he lay on his abdomen. She caressed his head to comfort him. He needs all the support he can get.
"Should I come with you? To support you?" Rory asked.
Liam turned and looked at her. "Seriously?" he asked. He wondered if she was just saying that. But he was surprised to see the determination in her eyes.
"Yes, to be supportive...Like I would support you back in college with your presentations..." she smiled.
Liam held her hand.
"And, Fizzy... I can’t hide from him forever. I should face him," she said.
Liam fell silent.
