The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 214: Good Decision
There was silence at the other end for some time.
"Fizzy?" Rory called him.
"How well do you know Ian’s parents, Cherry?" Liam asked. "Because I don’t know a lot of people will accept the maid as their only daughter-in-law. Ian seems to be thinking that way too, I guess. Although he didn’t openly state it. Status is a big issue, right, in most cases?"
"Well..." Rory thought about it. She didn’t think that the Campbells would mind the status more than the happiness of their son.
But does she know them that well? They treat her well although she is a commoner. But...
"I am not sure," she sighed. "It’s all so complicated!"
"Yeah," Liam nodded. He was glad that their situation was different. Her family agreed to the wedding when he had nothing. She was always rich. And she was the sole heir to a fortune. And yet his status never stood in way of their union.
"Your grandmother seems like a saint, you know," he said.
"What?" Rory raised her brows. "She wanted to use you as a shield to protect me." Rory didn’t like that. But she cannot change the past and she didn’t regret where their union got them.
"Yeah," Liam agreed. In retrospect, her grandmother allowed the marriage to happen to protect her. "But she always treated me well. She never insulted me or treated me just as a shield, you know..."
"Hmm..." Rory nodded. That she cannot refute. Her grandmother always treated Liam better.
"Show me my baby..." Rory asked. "I miss her..." She choked.
"Hey, come on, now..." Liam sighed. He thought that she would hold on for at least two weeks, but she couldn’t even handle a week away from them.
"I’m going to miss everything... She started to crawl, right?" she asked.
"No, she did not. You are not going to miss anything."
"Liar!" she shouted and her eyes watered. "What are you doing there? Are you happy alone? Why do you not want me with you? You are fed up with~" she pouted.
"Alright, Cherry..." he spoke in a stern voice. "How about thinking before talking, huh? I am never going to get fed up with you."
He did not want to hear her blame herself. He knew that would come up.
"Okay..." Rory took in a deep breath. "I am going to get home, Fizzy. I got better. I’ll do anything you want me to do. Please..." she begged him.
Liam wanted to hug her. He could see that she is not feeling good. It won’t be good to leave her alone there for long.
"Two days, okay? Stay there for two more days and you can return," he said.
"Okay, but only for two days," she said. She didn’t want to stay there any longer. She cannot be a guest in someone else’s home for days leaving her baby with her father to take care of her alone. It’s not good.
"I miss Ellie. And I miss you..." she said. She wanted to be with him.
"I too miss you..." Liam caressed his phone screen. She is making it hard for him to stay away. Does she even realize what those words do to him?
"Hey, talk to Derick... He has something important to say to you," he said.
"You don’t know what it is?" Rory asked.
"No, when did Derick tell me his secrets? Isn’t that why you’re there?" Liam shrugged.
Rory observed him. He didn’t appear angry but he was genuinely smiling.
"I don’t know... Maybe it is not important if it is not something you can’t know," she shrugged.
She is already keeping her husband at arm’s length. She knew it hurts Liam. She didn’t want to hurt him further by being cozy with other people giving him the impression that she can’t be close to him alone. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Rory," Liam’s voice turned serious. "Don’t stop talking to him on my account, please..."
"What? It’s not about you!" Rory denied seeing his sad face. She didn’t want to make him sad. "I just... I don’t have the time right now. I will talk to him once I find the time. I swear."
Liam stared at her face for some time. "You are not a very good liar, Cherry..." he pouted. "It’s... he decided to sue his wife for the custody of his son. He wanted to tell him that yourself because he said that you used to nag him a lot about that."
"He is?" Rory raised her voice out of happiness. "He was feeling shameful for what his wife put him through. he didn’t want to talk about it further and was willing to lose his son for his pride. I am so happy that he decided to fight for his son."
Liam stared at her for some time. He wanted to cry. All she did in the past was to encourage Derick to be brave and come out with the abuses he faced. But he didn’t understand her. And now...
"Aurora, I am feeling so guilty, you know..." he said. He also needed her to get along with Derick at least for the time being. "Please, talk to him, alright? Please..."
Rory tried to convince him that she does not have to speak to Derick and that he now has Julia to share his concerns with. But Liam was only taking that as an excuse. In the end, she agreed. She will talk to Derick when she feels like it.
Liam talked to her for some time and Rory ended the call only after Ellie woke up and had her meal.
-----
For lunch, Liam went to meet Derick who was in the city.
"Did she call you?" he asked.
"Not yet" Derick answered.
He did not look hurt or anything, but Liam felt guilty.
"I talked about the ring. I have no idea how they misplaced the ring. They’ve sent the evidence accidentally to the archives when the case is still ongoing," Derick complained.
"What?" Liam raised his brows. "Are there interferences?" he asked.
"Many want him dead, Liam. And he... he named a lot of names. I have an entire file that was redacted after he confessed who else knew about his hobbies. Some even partook in it at times... They had a meeting... a coven...and they used the blood and flesh as a sort of...sacrifice...? Some occult is involved, and it gets a lot weirder as he speaks more. There is no proof of anything, but judging by the involvement of many he accused in the murder attempts... Who knows?" Derick shrugged.
"Wow!" Liam’s eyes widened. They are not going to release this information to the people. It’s never going to be in the news. But gosh! This is all so weird!
No wonder Agnes had to be extra careful to deal with him.
"Here," Derick passed the engagement ring. "I signed and got it. Some didn’t want this released. But it’s a personal item and I pulled some strings for you."
"Thank you, Derick," Liam was truly grateful.
"Are you..." Derick was about to ask something, but then he stopped himself. If it were him, he wouldn’t give that ring to his wife again. That ring is cursed. But... Liam...Who knows what he is thinking?
Liam’s lips curved to a smile seeing the ring that once adorned his mother’s finger and then was passed on to his wife. He safely stored it in his pocket.
"I’m planning on getting a new ring for her," Liam told Derick.
"That’s perfect!" Derick was happy. That would be for the best.
"I... I need your help with that," Liam said.
Derick leaned forward. He didn’t think Liam would ask for the money for the ring or to choose the ring. He will do that himself. So what other help?
Liam looked around and leaned to Derick and spoke in a hushed tone. "Look... I have a ring in mind... It’s a natural blue diamond, matching her eyes and... She takes care of the finances, alright? And all the bills reach her. She wouldn’t like it if I spend two and a half million on a stone. So..."
"Two and a half million?" Derick raised his brows. Since when did this idiot has that much to spend?
"Shhh!" Liam shushed him. "Call her and ask her to loan you that money. She’ll give you whatever you ask for. And you pass me that money. I’ll repay it on your behalf little by little... She won’t know..."
"What?" Derick sighed. "I can lend you, my money. My dad will~"
"No!" Liam interjected him. "I cannot buy an engagement ring for my woman using borrowed money, can I?"
Derick nodded. That makes sense. And since when Liam started to make sense.
"This is why you should not leave the financials to your wife. Can you even buy what you want? Yuo should have autonomy, you know?" Derick lectured.
"I don’t care about that. It’s a large amount of money and I want to surprise her, you know..." Liam looked at him with his eyes pleading.
"Come on, Derick... Help me out here..."
