The Royal Mark-Chapter 281: Separate the Two
Laureen was in shock when Andrius finally pulled away, she immediately covered her mouth with both hands and stared at the Crown Prince with wide eyes.
"Say something..." Andrius uttered at last.
"Y-Your Highness, I-I donβt know what to say. Y-You just kissed me!" ππ£πππππππΌππ²πΉ.ππ π
"Yes, I did. Iβm sorry if that scared or confused you. But almost losing you made me realize that I cannot live without you. I just donβt simply like you, Laureen. I am in love with you..." Andrius declared as he held her hands.
But Laureen was quick to pull back her hands away from the prince. She had never ever considered being with a noble and not a soon-to-be King.
Even though her mother came from a decent wealthy merchant family, her father is a werewolf, and sheβs half-breed. That alone is already a problem since the Royal Family in Zemaria has been very strict in keeping their bloodline purely human.
While other women of the royal family were married off to other kingdoms for peace and political reasons. The heirs to the throne were not allowed to marry other races than humans. Not just any humans for that matter, they must add value to the status of the Royal Family.
They must possess wealth or influence, similar to Irinaβs family. She came from the family of Zemariaβs wealthiest miner, whose business stood as the primary metal supplier for the kingdomβs weaponry and armor.
Throughout Zemariaβs history, no king has ever wed a non-human queen. If Andrius were to marry a non-human, he would need to forfeit his title automatically, and she does not wish to be the reason for such a loss.
"I-Iβm sorry, Your Highness, but I donβt feel the same. I apologize but I am not in love with you. You are surely attractive and sought after by many women, but I am not one of them," Laureen coldly said as she looked away from Andrius.
Her intention was clear, she wanted to push Andrius away and the prince felt that. The Prince believed her and did not think of other possible reasons for her rejection.
Andrius stood up and said, "I-I understand. I-I also apologize my lady for being so straightforward and for not thinking of your feelings. It was very selfish of me to assume that you would instantly accept me the moment I confess my feelings to you.
I hope that you rest well tonight and please take good care of yourself. I am looking forward to your full recovery. Have a good night."
Andrius swiftly left the room with his tears threatening to fall. He walked as fast as he could knowing that Laureen could hear him even though he was already in the hallway. But when he was far enough, he leaned against the wall and grasped his left chest just right above his heart.
The heartbreak that he was feeling was unbearable, it was too much that he couldnβt stop himself from crying anymore. He was so confident earlier that he didnβt think of anything. Telling Laureen what he was feeling was the only in his mind the moment he heard her coughing.
He doesnβt want to lose that chance of letting her know whatβs in his heart or else he might regret it. But now, this is the price of what he had done. Not only that he get hurt but he also fears that Laureen might distance herself from him from now on.
βWhat the fuck just happened? I was so sure that she would be happy with my confession. She was never cold to me, I even thought that she felt the same because of how she looks at me, but her rejection felt like I was stabbed with a sword made of ice,β Andrius thought.
While Andrius was trying to get hold of himself, Laureen lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
"This was harder than I thought. Maybe because I never expected him to confess. I thought he would put the kingdom first, his duty as the future king, just like his father. I was wrong..."
Laureenβs eyes got watery and tears gently fell from her eyes as she kept her stare on the ceiling. She tried to blink it away but they just kept falling.
Meanwhile...
Elsa was taken to her room by Drake and it didnβt take long before she regained her consciousness.
"How long did I pass out?" She quickly asked upon seeing Rylie and Arla drinking tea on the sofa.
"Not long. We thought you would be out for a while so we decided to have some tea while waiting for you," Arla informed Elsa who was already getting up and preparing to leave the room.
"Whoa, whoa, take it easy, why are you in a hurry?" Rylie asked in worry.
"The spell is not that effective. I tried to save her wolf by transferring some of my energy but I failed. Thatβs why I fainted, that bitchβs spell is too powerful even when sheβs dead!" Elsa explained.
Arla gently grabbed Elsaβs arm on her way to the door. "Wait, what do you mean? Laureen woke up and she looked fine when we left her," Arla said.
Elsa sighed, "Laureen is perfectly fine, but not her wolf. Her wolf is dying..."
"But, how is that possible? If her wolf is dying, then it means sheβs dying too, because they are one, right?" Arla asked in confusion.
"I am not sure too. But I think Yvonneβs experiment is to separate the two. I think it is very successful."
"If it is, then what will happen to Laureen when her inner wolf dies?" Rylie questioned.
"Thatβs why I need to talk to Chris. I think Yvonne just successfully made Laureen to be a pure human. Take note, this spell was used on Neia too... Whereβs my husband?"
"He is still in the infirmary. Drake and Valeria went there after sending you here," Arla answered.
"Then letβs go there, I must inform Chris before Milda uses Irinaβs counter-spell on his sister."
