Chapter 207: Love Letter

When Lexi had a good cry while hugging Bendy, she wiped her tears and started reading the letter. She first read the one from Baahu, his first love letter to her.

Lexi had a good laugh at how Baahu tried to make her laugh with his not-funny joke but still, his attempt was successful. But what caught her attention was the last part.

"...my love, I will come and rescue you one day. Hang in there and can you please send me something from you through Bendy? I miss you so much and even just your scent from your shirt will help me ease this loneliness from missing you. Can you send one?"

Lexi laughed once more as she thought of something, ’I will send you something that’s much better husband,’ Lexi said inwardly, knowing that Baahu would be able to hear her thoughts.

’Please open it away from other people,’ she added.

Lexi looked around to see if the gardener was still around or if someone else was. When she saw no one, she stood up and pulled down something under her skirt and took her handkerchief to wrap it.

She then tied her handkerchief to the neck of Bendy who calmly sat beside her. "Make sure that this gift will reach my husband, Baahu, okay, Bendy?"

Bendy licked her face and she took it as a yes from the creature.

She read Prince’s Andrius letter next which has more serious content, but in the form of a riddle.

"Eternal love will rise from the sea before the sky turns red.

Fire, water, earth, and air, it shall spread.

All three nations shall bow down to its feet.

The lions and wolves will meet under a tree together with their fleet.

The angels will sing and the demons will fall.

The whole world will turn small.

The mountain in the east shall draw blood.

The river in the south must flood.

It will rain fire before the union begins.

Water shall wet all things.

The earth shall block what doesn’t belong.

And the air will surely make us grow strong."

Lexi frowned at what she read and exclaimed, "What the fuck is this? That Andrius whom I thought was a Prince Charming is surely not charming at all. How the hell will I know what it means?"

Bendy stretches its front legs and then its hind legs getting the attention of Lexi.

"Are you bored?" Lexi asked Bendy and it flapped its wings.

"Alright, you can go. But please promise me that you will be careful and will make sure that you will not be caught by the enemies, okay?" Lexi said to the pterolycus.

Bendy licked her cheek one last time before flying up so fast that Lexi became speechless for a moment.

"Wow, that was lightning speed! So that’s why it can come and go without being detected. No one would be able to keep up with it," she said before heading back to the castle.

On her way to the castle, she saw Laureen, pacing back and forth, looking worried.

"There you are! Where have you been? The queen is furious, she thought you ran away! She was about to turn on your choker but Prince Christopher stopped her and asked me to look for you. I’ve looked for you everywhere but you were gone!" Laureen exclaimed anxiously.

"I was in the garden, checking the flowers for the ceremony," Lexi said, as she sighed. The queen had put a metal choker around their necks but was still suspicious of their every move.

"But someone reported that you were with a man! So she thought you ran away," Laureen answered.

Lexi thinks deeply. She had been speaking with a lot of men lately due to the role that she was assigned to so she really can’t remember at instance was she looking suspicious to anyone.

"That’s fine, I’ll just talk to the queen and explain. I need to go to her anyway and report the updates on the preparation of the ceremony," Lexi said before heading towards the throne room.

When she entered the room, there was someone else besides the queen, King Alaric, and Prince Christopher. When she got closer, she recognized the man and her skin turned cold, her lips turned white. It was the old gardener.

"So, you are here. Where have you been?" Queen Yvonne asked.

"Your Majesty, I was in the garden checking the flowers for your marking ceremony," Lexi calmly replied.

"Lies!" Queen Yvonne yelled, startling Lexi. "This old man here said that you were with a man when you passed the garden and he said that it looks like you two were about to run away!"

"Y-Your M-Majesty, it’s not true! That man is the gardener who was with me," Lexi pointed to the old man who was standing on the side.

"Is that true old man?" the queen asked.

"My Queen, I was there because it’s my job but I saw her receiving a letter from the man," the gardener said.

Lexi felt her blood boil at the old man for telling a complete lie. She wanted to rip off the old man’s tongue right then and there. "What are you saying?! You are lying! You were the only person with me there!"

"I think you should check what is that letter about," Chris whispered to the queen, but being a werewolf, Lexi heard it loud and clear.

She frowned as she stared at Chris who gave her a slight nod that was not obvious to anyone. She does not understand what is happening, but she trusts Chris so she stands there in the middle waiting for what’s going to happen next.

"Guards! Check her pockets and look for that letter!" Queen Yvonne said.

Lexi sighed in relief. She made the right choice in burning Baahu’s letter before returning to the castle and only left Andrius’ letter which had a code name ’Andrew’.

One of the guards took the letter from her pocket and gave it to the queen but she refused to take it and ordered the guard.

"Read it aloud, I will not touch it, who knows if it has a spell that will harm me," Queen Yvonne said.

[Here it goes!] Yakobo excitedly uttered.

The guard’s hand shook when the queen mentioned that it could have some harmful spell but proceeded to read it anyway.

"Eternal love will rise from the sea before the sky turns red."

[Our mate will sail to Arcanis before the blood moon.] Yakobo started interpreting.

"Fire, water, earth, and air, it shall spread."

[She had mastered all her elements.]

All three nations shall bow down to its feet.

[Oh boy, she’s gonna obliterate, Arcanis, Saldivar, and Kurzen.]

The lions and wolves will meet under a tree together with their fleet.

[She will come together with the humans, werewolves, and an elf? Elandir is coming too?] Yakobo asked in bewilderment.

The angels will sing and the demons will fall.

[Divine mages will help her defeat King Mordrak. Huh? Does he mean Mistress Valeria?]

The whole world will turn small.

[Oh my goodness! Arcanis will be surrounded. I can’t freaking wait!]

The mountain in the east shall draw blood.

[So that’s why King Stephan wanted to make an appearance.]

The river in the south must flood.

[They will have backup by the river. For sure King Stephan helped them.]

It will rain fire before the union begins.

[She is surely angry Christopher!]

Water shall wet all things.

[Do you still remember how to swim? Looks like you’re gonna need it, boy!]

The earth shall block what doesn’t belong.

[Hmm, I wonder how devastating her earth magic is?]

And the air will surely make us grow strong."

[She is surely confident!]

"What the hell is that letter?!" Queen Yvonne, angrily shouted.

But their attention was caught by Chris’ laughter.

"What is so funny?!" the queen asked.

"Don’t you find it funny? That love letter sucks!" Chris said before laughing again.

"Love letter?" Queen Yvonne uttered, not sure what Chris was talking about.

Fortunately, Lexi was fast and was able to grasp what Chris meant.

"I’m sorry, Your Majesty. The man that the gardener saw was someone who was courting me. He confessed to me earlier and gave me that love letter," Lexi stated. She made a quick glance at the old gardener so smiled and nodded.

"So you are not running away?" Queen Yvonne asked.

"No, Your Majesty. It might look like it, but I just don’t want others to see us. I am not sure if you would approve of it so we hid," Lexi answered.

[You’re such a good liar.] Petra said, Lexi’s wolf.

"Is the man a werewolf?" Queen Yvonne asked.

"A d-demon, Your Majesty..." Lexi bowed, pretending to be embarrassed because of her revelation.

"Oh, so that’s why you are hiding. Well, go on, I won’t stop you, even if I don’t approve. Soon you’ll see he was just using you. Just look at how ugly his love poem is for you. You may go."

Lexi sighed and bowed. She looked at Chris and the gardener one last time before leaving the throne room.

[Phew, that was close!] Petra said.

’Chris is crazy. He could have just given me a heads-up before pulling a stunt like this. What if I was not able to realize that this was his plan all along?’

[But you did. That’s why he gave you this task even without telling you upfront since he knew that you were the only one who could pull it through.]
