Chapter 167: Retracting the Deal

Later in the afternoon, Elsa was awakened by the sound of the birds perched on her window. They seemed to be used to people since some of them were already pecking her hair.

"Princess? Are you awake already?" someone knocked on the door.

"Yes, come in," Elsa replied to the unfamiliar female voice.

"I am Frieda, Your Highness, and I am assigned to be your servant for the whole duration that you are here in Qiryn."

"Oh! They must have been really sorry for how Elandir acted. I will only stay here maybe for two more days, I really don’t need a servant, I can manage on my own."

"But Your Highness, I can also show you around, so you won’t get bored," Frieda offered with a gentle smile.

Elsa was impressed by the elf’s beauty and felt that she would surely get along with her, "Alright if you insist. I think touring Qiryn would be fun."

"I will make sure that you’ll have a good time here, Your Highness. By the way, I went here earlier to bring your lunch but you were sleeping. Are you hungry now? What do you want to eat?" Frieda asked enthusiastically.

"When is dinner?"

"It is about two hours from now."

"Never mind then, I’ll eat at dinner. How about you show me around?"

Frieda nodded and opened the door for Elsa. She decided to show Elsa the flower garden on the south side of the castle.

"How old are you, Frieda," Elsa suddenly asked surprising the servant.

"I am three hundred years old. Why do you ask, Your Highness?"

"The other servant said that Elandir knew my husband since he was young. Do you know anything about it?" Elsa asked. She misses Chris so much but she can’t do anything for now and any information about her husband would be comforting.

Frieda chuckled making Elsa smile for she looked like she had a good story to tell about Chris.

"The young Prince Elandir was mischievous, he often sneaked out of Qiryn and the place that he loved to visit was Arcanis. Prince Christopher was in his early teens back then and our prince is of course much older but still thinks like a child.

They met and Prince Christopher would shift into his wolf and let Prince Elandir ride on his back and they would go to different places using the portal that he conjured. That’s how they became close friends. Until one day our prince fell and got injured, we elves do not heal as fast as the werewolves but we can conjure healing potions, and unfortunately, Prince Elandir was a stubborn student and refused to learn it saying he doesn’t need it.

He couldn’t conjure a portal as well because of his injury. The Prince of Arcanis asks his friends for help to hide our prince only until he gets better. But of course, our king looked for him and found him eventually. He was so afraid that his ability to conjure a portal would be taken away so he and the Prince of Arcanis lied. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

He said that Prince Christopher kidnapped him while he was ’exploring’ Arcanis looking for useful herbs. Prince Christopher didn’t even deny it in front of their fathers saying that he thought that our prince was an intruder. But the two kings knew that both boys were lying thus punishing them both including their friends.

Prince Elandir’s ability to conjure portals was taken away, while the werewolves received a public beating from the King of Arcanis for ’kidnapping’ an elf. But the Prince of Arcanis was smiling during the beating so his father added additional punishment for him."

"Wow, that was such an adventure, and it really shows that they have each other’s back. So they didn’t see each other after that?" Elsa asked since the two trusted each other fully, she doubted that Elandir stopped seeing her husband.

"That’s what everyone believes. But honestly, princess, knowing our prince, I don’t think that he stop. I am sure that he continued his friendship with Prince Christopher. He doesn’t abandon the people that he loves. Everyone here respects him because of that and we think that he will be a great king someday. But like I said, he is stubborn and likes to disobey his father so now, we are not allowed to address him as prince. We were instructed to treat him like a regular civilian in Qiryn as punishment to the prince."

"He will taste his own medicine someday when he finally has a child and he will hate himself for being a rebellious son." The two ladies laugh out loud not knowing that someone is already approaching them.

"Are you making fun of me, Princess Elsa?" Elandir unexpectedly appeared behind them, startling them.

"Yes, we do. What are you going to do about it, huh?" Elsa challenged.

"I could tell you more of my adventures with Chris if you want," he offered with a smile. He was much more gentler now than when Elsa first met him in the sea.

Elsa pursed her lips and looked on the side thinking what she should reply to him.

"No need to think about it I will tell you anyway. The reason I am here is because King Tyrion, my father, and the Elven Council wanted to talk to you now. Seems like they couldn’t wait for you to hand them over the Moonstone Mithril staff."

"Frieda, could you leave us? I want to talk to Elandir privately," Elsa said. Frieda bowed and immediately left.

She then immediately turned to Eladir and asked directly, "Whose side are you on?" surprising the elf.

"That’s a bold question, Your Highness. You are aware that this is my kingdom. I may not have my title now, but in the end, I will still be the king here so get to your point, Princess," Elandir said.

"You know the reason why Chris is handing over that staff right?" Elandir nodded and patiently waited for her to continue. "I am retracting that deal and I want you to open a portal for me so I can go back to Zemaria. I am bringing the staff back with me."

Elandir stared at Elsa with a blank face like a lifeless doll, he couldn’t believe what Elsa said. He must admit he didn’t expect that from her. He felt that as if his brain had shut down for a moment after hearing her thoughts.
