The Royal Mark-Chapter 143: Her Family’s History
Elsa quickly grabbed one and stood in position in front of Valeria.
"Now close your eyes," Valeria said causing Elsa to frown.
"But how can I see the fireball and the glass if I do that?" Elsa questioned, her voice full of doubt.
"Trust me, this will work. Now, close your eyes."
Elsa closed her eyes and listened very keenly to her grandmother.
"Visualize the size of the fireball you intend to create in your mind. Envision the flames materializing in your hand, expanding until they reach the desired size. Once it reaches the appropriate size, cease channeling your power into your hand, akin to stopping the flow of energy when healing someone and witnessing the disappearance of a wound.
When utilizing your elemental abilities for offense, close your energy point while cradling the fireball in your hand. Refrain from releasing it; instead, retain control until you are prepared to launch it towards your target." Valeria smiled as she observed Elsa successfully manifest a fireball in her hand without shattering the glass or engulfing the surroundings in flames.
"Now open your eyes," Valeria instructed, which she instantly regretted.
"Shit!" Elsa screeched as the fireball from her hand darted toward the bed.
Valeria acted swiftly, employing both hands to conjure a whirlwind that ensnared the fireball. Gradually, the fiery orb diminished as the surrounding air extinguished its flame.
"I’m so sorry! I got excited when I saw the fireball in my hand and the oval glass is full of water and still not breaking," Elsa quickly explained.
"That’s alright, my dear. It’s still progress. Check your left hand," Valeria beamed, a sense of pride welling up within her. Hera had been a star student in her own time, but at this early stage, Valeria could already see that Elsa surpassed her mom in both intelligence and strength.
It typically takes months and even years for a mage to master the summoning and control of their elements. Yet, Elsa had achieved it in a remarkably short period, without any prior training.
Elsa gasped, her jaw dropping, upon seeing the oval glass still intact, not a single crack visible, even after she had accidentally unleashed the fireball.
"H-How is this possible? I cannot believe this!" Elsa rejoiced and wanted to tell Chris right away but unfortunately, he was still blocking their bond so she had to wait for him to unblock her before she could tell him the good news.
"It just means that if you focus hard enough, you can allocate your mana correctly. Keep your emotions in check since as we witnessed, it is the major cause of your failed attempts. Relax and focus on your spells and self. You are casting, block everything around you, and only think of what you are doing. Someday when you get used to it, you will easily cast any spell without much effort," Valeria then embraced Elsa.
"Take a rest, Elsa. If tomorrow you can cast it well, then your grandpa will surely allow you to follow your husband in the East. He is really worried that you will get hurt in this war. He might not say it to you, but every night that is all he is complaining about before we go to sleep," Valeria added.
Elsa tilted her head and asked, "Grandpa sleeps in your room? Not the queen’s?"
Valeria laughed out loud. She just realized that Elsa still has a lot to learn about their family. "Yes, he does. When his father died and he became the king of Zemaria, he ordered me to live in the castle. The queen was pregnant with Drake back then and after a few months of living here, I too conceived your mother."
"Can I ask a more personal question?" Elsa brazen herself since her curiosity is really killing her.
"Go ahead, dear. But I think I already know your question," Valeria smiled.
"Why Grandpa? Aren’t you angry or jealous that he has another family? You are beautiful, I am sure there are many men you tried to pursue you."
"Yes, there were many suitors, but my heart only belonged to Allister. We were deeply in love. My mother was the Archmage and we always see each other here, until his father chose Irina to be his wife because of their family’s wealth.
Their mines were very much needed by the castle to produce more armor and weapons. And since I was the last divine mage of my mother’s bloodline, the former king could not ban me from the castle, and hence me, and Allister kept seeing each other.
His father kept pressuring him to produce an heir and even threatened him that he would make me marry someone else if he did not bed Irina since he did not consummate their marriage on their wedding night. To protect me, he had an agreement with his father to not meddle with our relationship if he produced an heir and so that’s how they had children.
But the king wanted two heirs for backup, in case the first one died. However, as you know, the second child is a girl, Milda, so he has to bed Irina again to produce the second male heir. But the king died before Drake was born.
The first thing that he did after his coronation was to bring me to the castle, breaking a lot of rules and laws but no one dared to oppose him. That night your mother was conceived. Ever since that night, he had always slept in my room.
Since Hera is a girl, they allowed her to use his father’s last name and be coronated as the second princess. They didn’t see her as a threat because of her gender, instead, they see her as an asset. Someone they could marry off to form an alliance someday, and that’s what had happened."
"But my mom is as stubborn as I am, and the rest is history. Fortunately, she chose my father, or else I wouldn’t have Chris now." Both women burst into laughter. Despite the complexities of their family history, it ultimately led to a wonderful outcome that neither of them would wish to change.
